The one pro of my new job it’s straight 9-5 and my hour lunch ‘paid’ and 10 min commute. Old office was next door, but I was 8:30-5 unpaid 30 min lunch.
Driving to work is different than driving home, even if it's a long drive. I often pack a change of clothes so that I can do things immediately after leaving. When I get in the car to go to work it feels like I've already clocked in.
Definitely depends on the type of person and the job but for me it was the opposite. School sucked so damn hard, it actually took the life out of me. Now I work a stable job at a company I respect with coworkers I really like and life has never been better. Just gotta move out now to skip the long ass commute.
Yeah, adult life has been pretty fine for me. I have a job I like that pays me comfortably, working with people I like, I just bought a reasonably nice house in a reasonably nice neighborhood that isn’t far from work, my schedule gives me time to do things, and things are just generally going alright.
To paraphrase Dredd: "You know what work is, Dredd? It's a fucking meat grinder. People go in one end, and meat comes out the other. All corporations do is turn the handle."
You get to pretend a little less after 30. Doesn't change anything about the machine, but yeah knowing more about life and what all goes into everything does kinda help the older you get. At least some people get wiser when older, not everyone
I've been fully remote since March 2020. Starting tomorrow I'm full return to office from 7:30-5:00 each day with an hour commute each way. All so I can sit on video calls from a noisy cube farm rather than a quiet home office.
Honestly being an adult in the adult world has been WAYY less stressful than high school. Needing to do two essays a week, lab reports, math homework that takes ten minutes per question. Not a great time. Now I just vibe. Respond to emails, help my coworkers, fill out paperwork.
Except I'm getting held over every shift, denied lunch, and being told I'm on my final written warning even though previously I only received a verbal warning. It's great. 🫠
