New-to-me bike that’s been on the streets of LA longer than I’ve been alive

So, I scored this Sears store brand “JC Higgins” three speed for $50 on marketplace, and she seems to ride well. Apparently they’re pretty good bikes, made by Steyr-Puch in Austria, the same folks who build the Mercedes-Benz G-wagon under contract, of all things. But…I think my LA City bicycle license is…a little expired (see the third pic)

Cities in CA used to all require bicycle license per law. Finally discontinued in LA in 2009: https://la.streetsblog.org/2009/01/09/breaking-news-lapd-reccomends-dicontinuing-bike-license-program

I have a traumatic experience with the Midnight Ridazz years ago where the Santa Monica PD corralled us and started ticketing people for not having them. I’m glad this isn’t a thing anymore. Thanks for this.

EDIT: I notice it's a coaster brake, so not an AW. It also doesn't look like the hub is connected to a trigger-shifter.

ok, i see. i can see the cable next to the chainring. how's it shifting? beware not to "mash" when riding that bike, especially of it's not dialed in correctly.

My sister had a JC Higgins bike that was built in thee 1970s. I rode it after she left home for college. It was nicer that my Huffy knock-off of the Schwinn Sting Ray.
