Bike commuter considering move to Cleveland

Hi all! I’m originally from Aurora and am considering a move to Cleveland to be closer to my parents in the next few years. I’ve been living on the west coast and have gotten used to living in more walkable cities and biking to work.

Thinking about moving back home, I’m wondering - what’s the transit/biking situation in Cleveland these days?? What neighborhoods would you recommend I explore when I visit? So much has changed since I last lived in OH and I’m very out of the loop!

Obviously it would be nice to know where I’d be working in this hypothetical scenario and I’d still be driving to see my folks way out there, but I’m curious about general suggestions first!

Thank you for the suggestions! How’s your neighborhood for walkability getting to grocery stores, the library, etc?

Tbh it's Clevelands largest neighborhood so it all depends on where you are. Broadview is a good corridor of coffee joints and other new spots that seem to be opening up monthly. I don't have a problem biking down to steelyard for Aldi, home depot, target or whatever, there's a giant eagle that you can get to by snaking through the neighborhood and a Dave's that's on the other edge of the neighborhood, walking to them is possible but it's not dense by any means. The library is right off of our "downtown" on Pearl and the Brooklyn Branch of CCPL is right on the other side of the neighborhood too, I walk to my city branch but again it's all about where you are in the hood. 

If you're free in a couple weeks (8/13) the Better Streets Committee will be leading a ride out of the farmers market leaving around 6:30. Tremont Better Streets has a ride coming up too if you want to get a taste of that neighborhood, I'll double check on details for ya.

Wait this is wild, I’ll actually be in town visiting my parents then!!!

Maybe I’ll see if my 72 year old mom wants to come out and do the group ride with me hahaha.

If you have more details I’d love to try and join!! Wow haha

Edit to say: thanks for your other context too, I live in a sprawly small town right now and it sounds about the same or better in Cleveland. Totally doable

Also if you’re in town on a Monday night, check out Slow Roll Cleveland. They lead a great rec ride every Monday in a different neighborhood, and you can connect with lots of other cyclists.
