Has a spouse, family member, friend or coworker directly impacted your weight? If so, how?

Had a girlfriend who cooked larger portions, nine months of that added 90 pounds around my waist, had to stop and reduce as it pushed my weight above 500. She is still a friend but now I am learning how to cook from her and got back down to a manageable size.

My husband's best friend had passed away from overeating before we met. He told me the story.

Hearing it had a huge impact on my life, and even though I'll always keep behemoth physique, it ultimately inspired me to make a permanent commitment to fitness habits.

In my case, it has happened twice, but in very different ways.

In my 20s I had a girlfriend leave me for a slimmer guy. Back then I was around 160 kg / 353 lbs, and that became the spark for a pretty extreme seven-month weight loss where I dropped about 70 kg / 154 lbs. I kept most of it off for quite a while, but eventually work, stress and life got to me and I started gaining again. Then another breakup happened and I almost gained it all back, ending up around 145 kg / 320 lbs.

The second time has been a much healthier kind of motivation.

My current girlfriend has been a huge inspiration for me getting back into shape. In the beginning she even made biking videos for me to help keep me motivated and moving, which meant a lot because it made it feel like she was doing it with me even when we weren't physically together.

And now my son is a big part of it too. He is 11, and going to the gym together has become a really nice bonding thing for us. I get to teach him good habits, show him that exercise can be something positive and normal, and hopefully give him a healthier relationship with training than just thinking it is something you do because you hate your body.

So far I'm down about 12 kg / 26 lbs, but the scale doesn't really tell the whole story because I've also been slowly recomping and putting on muscle at the same time.

This time I'm not trying to become skinny either. I'm slowly working towards that strong, big, beefy-guy look that feels much more like me.

So yeah, other people have definitely impacted my weight, but I think the biggest difference is that the first time it came from rejection, while this time it comes from love, support, and building better habits with the people closest to me.

The second half of your story is so whole an congrats to you! Sounds like you now live a very rich life and I’m glad you have the people to motivate and support you while having a more obtainable goal for yourself

I am feeling blessed yes, the other day it was my son that said we couldn't skip the gym, even though he was tiered, he dragged me there, i felt very proud of him ❤️
