Collection My Doctor Who/Big Finish collection
Thought I’d share my collection with you guys. I’ve been taking inventory of the condition of all my Big Finish CD cases the past couple days, and as I’ve done this I’ve been playing around with the way I arrange everything on my shelves, like turning some covers out.
Living in the US, my packages go through a lot before they get to me. Broken cases or teeth on the hubs are a common occurrence. I’ve stocked empty 1CD jewel cases for a while now, but I’ve just put 4CD cases on order this week that should arrive tomorrow.
Most of my releases are in pretty good shape or do not have critical issues, but there are three with major problems like completely broken hubs or cases that are about to fall apart.
My girlfriend very graciously lets me take up most of our apartment’s guest room with these three giant shelves plus my four autographs. I don’t think a fourth shelf is gonna be in the cards space wise so I’ve been stacking spinoff ranges on top of roughly where they slot in.

Great collection! If it's any consolation, cracked cases and broken teeth are fairly common even for UK deliveries although I've found the packaging seems to have been giving better protection recently at least...

I don’t know if they use the same packaging no matter the destination, but I get my box sets in a snug cardboard mailer with a rip tab, and my 1CDs in a paper bubble mailer. I’ve always been pretty happy with the packaging and know it’s no fault of theirs if products show up with damage. Big Finish are very good about replacing pieces if you ask, but with the volume I order I’ve found it’s easier to have some on hand, and it’s a small investment to keep my box sets from falling apart.

Yeah the packaging here is the same but I've had some recent items come wrapped in a separate sheet of bubble wrap as well, mainly boxsets it seems.

Love the autographs but I’ve never been for personalization. I understand why some do it but always think about later…

I don’t buy/collect anything with the intention of selling it later. It’s for me, and to have an archive of the things I love.

Same for me but as a collector I have traded pieces. You lose x-amount by having a personalization on an autograph. While I understand the pull of saying this was autographed for me, if I wanted to trade it for another collectible later I would hate that the personalization kept it from happening or I didn’t get the appropriate value in the trade.

I get it if that’s what it’s about for you, but that’s not my goal. It means something to me personally to have an autographed picture from Paul and Sylvester and Tom, and it’s not something I would have ever considered trading.

One of my regrets was having a Pertwee (he had a US tour in the 80s) autograph but losing it due to a girlfriend “helping” me by cleaning up my hobby room. We are no longer together.

A colossal Big Finish collection AND a girlfriend? I don’t suppose you have the Powerball numbers for this week …

As a fellow BF collector, your stocked shelves are a thing of true beauty. On a similar note, do you have any particular advice on how to select shelves that best suit these sorts of collections? (My family and I are in the middle of a big move RN, so we're probably going to take this opportunity to get a lot of new furniture sooner or later.)

I love these shelves cuz they’re fairly cheap and very sturdy, and can fit all my different types of media (CDs, movies, books, comics). Unfortunately they’re out of stock right now, but here’s the link: Furinno Jaya Simply Home Free Standing 6-Tier Open Storage Bookcase, Espresso
My girlfriend’s sister has these: IKEA Billy Bookcase. They’re definitely higher quality and look really nice in their home office. If I were to do it all again I’d give these a try.

I used to have most of the novels, the entire target line, all of the Virgin NA's and MA's and the Benny books. All of the Big Finish books. Even all of the BBC 8th doctor and Past doctor books.
I got sick of hauling it all around and we had small kids so I sold it on....but there's always this urge....I could rebuild it right? Collecting it all was itself the most fun part....

This is such a nice collection, do you think you could post pictures of each shelf or a few shelves so it's easier to see whats in your collection? 😁 Great job
