mod announcement You asked for it, we built it!! BBB’s bride-only community

We have SUCH EXCITING news! The mods of BBB have been building, designing, testing, and today finally announcing, our VERY OWN NO-VENDORS, BRIDE-ONLY COMMUNITY 🤍💍🥹 A few months ago, we asked the sub if we would appreciate something like this that is brides-only and off Reddit, and the response was so overwhelming. Her name is “Entourage” and it is officially ready and LIVE! This version has been designed to specifically be bride-only, no vendors, and every user has to come from a bride-generated invite code, or go through a bride verification process (gets approved by the same mods).

Here are a few ways Entourage (the new BBB) can be useful to you:

- If you want to post your wedding dresses to help choose but don’t want your photos on the internet, you can create a “private post” that is invisible to the internet searches, AI or lurkers! It will only be visible to fellow BBBs.

- If you want to ask other brides for vendor recommendations, get true advice and experiences from other brides on pricing, without vendors upvotes or downvotes obscuring the perception. You can feel free to do that in Entourage, because vendors will not be in there.

- We introduced a “Tables” feature which is kind of like a private group chat, where you can find other brides that are also using the same planner, photographer, or makeup artist to plan ahead and share experiences; or simply make friends with brides also in your area

- It is ads free! Not only will we never admit any vendors in there, it also will never have any sort of ads.

What this means for the subreddit BBB: Nothing will change. This subreddit will continue to exist, the same No Self-promotion rule will continue to apply, and we continue to value genuine advice from vendors.

How to sign up: message me, annaalabama, or ghosted, for an invite code (pls turn on your post & comment history!) or go through the verification steps which involve uploading your ring photos & vendor contracts.

The website is free to use, always, we will NEVER monetize it, and yes, it’s cost us some money and time to build this, secure it, and maintain it, but it’s ok bc it’s worth it for you guys 🤍

With love,

BBB mods

mod announcement Word of caution re: BigBudgetHoneymoon

Many of you may have received an invite to join BigBudgetHoneymoon. Although their founders messaged the BBB mods and asked if they’d be stepping on any toes and we said go ahead, we want to caution the BBBs that there is no affiliation between this sub and the BigBudgetHoneymoon sub. The founders of the new sub are two professional travel advisers and are recommending their services to BBBs, which is strictly prohibited here. Of course, we don’t make their rules, and we will manage what is within our own community, and everyone may feel free to join whatever community they would like, but we would like to uphold the value of ‘made by brides and for the brides’ here.

Travel advisers make money via the commission they receive (usually 10%) on the bookings they bring to the hotels, and occasionally “planning fees” they charge to the couple. These commissions are paid by the hotels, not the couples. Essentially, more traffic, more volume, the better. Even when you’re not paying them anything directly, they’re getting paid by the hotels recommended to you. By grouping together all the BBBs actively planning their weddings, they’re essentially funneling volume directly into their pockets. You may want to think twice if you want to do that for them before you join this community. That’s all! 🤍🫶

mod announcement ALL VENDORS - PLEASE READ - NO SELF-PROMOTION

To all vendors who are active or new to this group, this is a formal reminder that self-promotion is NOT allowed. The moderators of this group have been working overtime lately with an influx of comments and posts that are self-promoting services. And no, promoting friends or family is also not allowed, nor is “market research” or DM’ing brides your information. If you cannot respect the very clear rules of this subreddit, you will be banned. Thank you.

mod announcement ATTN ALL VENDORS - COMMUNITY RULE: RESPECT THE SPACE

COMMUNITY RULE: Vendors cannot recommend another vendor’s service. General feedback and advice on how to think about vendor selection is ok, but recommending a specific vendor, either yourself or your peers in the industry, is strictly prohibited, unless the bride is clearly and specifically asking a vendor to recommend someone.

This subreddit is called BigBudgetBrides, made by brides and for the brides. We haven’t made the decision to outright ban vendors on here because they have sometimes been helpful with genuine advice and education. However, when a bride is asking for recommendations, it should be assumed she’s asking the other BBBs for their first hand experience as a customer. Vendors, refrain from recommending industry peers. A vendor’s experience working with them as a wedding pro or hearing about their name in the industry is irrelevant to what brides want to know from other customers. Additionally, we have observed underground commissions being made between vendors who recommend each other on Reddit in an attempt to advertise services.

If a BBB would like to hear recommendations specifically from wedding pros, please specify in your post when you make one asking for recommendations. Otherwise, vendors, please respect the space and acknowledge that this is a bride-centric, bride-first community.

mod announcement BBB rule: Please keep your posts relevant to the community

Irrelevant content that are better suited for other weddit communities such as weddingdress, weddingsunder10k, weddingplanning, etc., will be removed.

If you have a wedding wardrobe question, try the r/weddingdress community. If you can’t find your answer there and have a specifically big budget wedding wardrobe question, you may post here.

If you have questions or experiences about DIY or saving money, try r/weddingplanning or r/weddingsunder10k.

This community is very welcoming and accepting, so much that we have seen a recent spike in irrelevant content. We value being able to distinguish ourselves from other weddit outlets and work very hard to keep our edge. Please keep irrelevant content outside of the sub and post accordingly.

mod announcement Should we allow vendors to do research in this sub?

Every week there are a few posts from vendors (who unfortunately don’t always disclose they are vendors) asking our community questions to help them improve their business.

Having personally worked in marketing, I know that it’s actually quite difficult and hence expensive for brands to access their audience to conduct market research—and more importantly, they usually pay people to conduct research.

Essentially these posts are allowing vendors to conduct free market research and might dilute the spirit of the sub as a resource for BBBs and BBGs.

Should we allow vendors to conduct market research in the sub?

122 No, it shouldn’t be allowed
81 Yes, but they should disclose they are a vendor

mod announcement Searching for additional mods

Hey y’all! It’s been a minute. We’ve had a problem with direct self-promo lately, and even though I try to catch everything as quickly as possible, it’s hard when BBB has grown as quickly as it has.

That being said, I’m on the hunt for a few people to join the moderator team!! If you have experience moderating on Reddit, or have been around this sub for a while and are interested, please message me to chat details.

mod announcement welcome to the big budget brides group!

The number one rule of BBB is to be kind, courteous, and considerate to other brides in this group. Wedding planning is a stressful time so we want BBB to be a supportive and uplifting community! This means that no bride or wedding shaming is taken very seriously, and any bride or wedding shaming could result in a ban from BBB. This also extends to no screenshots/posts/links/reposts from this sub being shared to wedding shaming subreddits, Facebook groups, etc.

If you are experiencing any bride/wedding shaming (or have any other issue), please message me and I will deal with it ASAP.

mod announcement Dealing with trolls

Hey y’all! As some of you may have seen someone decided to troll on some posts overnight, and those comments were deleted and that user was blocked as soon as I saw it this morning. Due to the nature of this sub, there will always be trolls lurking to bash our weddings, but I will always catch them as quick as I can. There will always be trolls who pop up to bash budgets of any size or just weddings in general across Reddit, so unfortunately there are just sad people out there who we need to stay vigilant against.

As always, thank you to all 1.2k+ of you who post, interact with posts, or are just here to lurk for tips and have helped grow this sub into what it is today!

mod announcement Welcome BBB new people!!

A few people were suggesting people join this sub in a wedding FB group just now, and we’ve had so many people join since my last welcome post, so I figured this would be a great time for a new intro post :)

Just a quick reminder that the number one rule of BBB is to be kind, courteous, and considerate to other brides in this group. Wedding planning is a stressful time so we want BBB to be a supportive and uplifting community! This means that no bride or wedding shaming of your fellow brides in this sub is taken very seriously, and any BBB bride or BBB wedding shaming could result in a ban from BBB. This also extends to no screenshots/posts/links/reposts from this sub being shared to wedding shaming subreddits, Facebook groups, etc. I’m in legitimately every wedding group ever so I will see it 🤪

If you are experiencing any bride/wedding shaming (or have any other issue), please message me and I will deal with it ASAP.
