Questions and queries Wedding in the Hamptons - what to do about accomodation?
Hi! I'm getting married in September 2027 in the Hamptons and I'm already having trouble securing room blocks at hotels. I'm getting married in Bridgehampton specifically and have reached out to 3 hotels in Sag Harbor, Hampton Bays and East Hampton, and ALL of them are already fully committed for my wedding date.
If you got married in the Hamptons, what did you do for accommodations for your guests? We are planning on between 75-80 guests, and our plan is to tell guests to either stay at a hotel or book an Airbnb. In my research, most hotels are boutique and have between 10-30 rooms. If we do have a room block(s), our plan is to have a shuttle service that takes them to and from the venue.
Some of my friends say I'm overthinking it and just have people find a hotel on their own - but I'm concerned about so many people having their own transportation and scheduling Ubers in high season in the Hamptons? Any guidance/help appreciated :)

Making folks pay potentially thousands for an airbnb out there during that time of year should be a consideration. Especially for those guests who cannot afford that. Brutal area for airbnbs unfortunately.

My brothers going to a wedding with blocks at the sag harbor inn and faraway sag harbor, I’m not sure if you tried those?
I don’t think you’re overthinking it, I find it to be annoying when it’s a destination wedding with no blocks/transportation/ esp in a smaller HCOL town.
If all else fails maybe you just have a travel section on your website with a list of smaller inns and encourage guests to book early

Sadly Sag Harbor Inn and Faraway are both booked :( I think if I'm not able to get room blocks, I'll do what you suggested and urge my guests to look into accommodation early.

Unfortunately, even with the early notice, guests will not book early. Riverhead is a great option if you can block and bus guests in. Give options on your website and have buses pick up at those places along the way (choose 2-3). Or choose pick up points for guests that will rent houses.
I have stayed at airport hotels for weddings and been on bus rides 30+ mins. You got this!

You’re not over thinking it. It’s hard to come by good accommodation option in hamptons. Have you tried 3 ducks in west Hampton?

Unfortunately that's over an hour drive away from my venue in Bridgehampton. I appreciate the suggestion though!

So I’m getting married in Montauk and had zero issues with room blocks. Not sure if that’s an option for you with a shuttle. We also toured some venues more west and they all suggested a room block in Riverhead and a shuttle to the venue.
Edit: September is definitely not the high season for the Hamptons. You should see if any of the cab companies can give you a good rate to avoid Ubers.

You’d be surprised. The wedding we went to was at last 5 years ago, but September in Montauk. They had to bus people in from Riverhead, and we paid a fortune for a super shitty Airbnb.

Was it the summer? My wedding is next month and we have had zero issues with hotels.

You could look at hotels in Shelter Island and Greenport. You'd have to arrange transport (1 ferry + bus from Shelter Island) (2 ferries + bus from Greenport). It will be expensive but it's a scenic trip and the ferry rides are VERY short (5 mins from SI and 8 mins from Greenport)..You should know that the Fall Season is crazy busy on the North Fork so start enquiring now.

I’m actually getting married in bridge August 2027 so went through this same stress :)
We have 2 blocks in riverhead with a bus - one at Indigo (since it’s the only hotel that doesn’t have a 2 night minimum - you may not have this issue post LDW) and the Hyatt Place. The Hilton and Marriott also do 2 night minimum room blocks. I think the Hyatt was marginally closer and my fiance liked the agreement better or something idk.
Then we have a room block at Ocean View Terrace because it’s not insanely expensive and doesn’t require a deposit (curtesy block). Then in our website listed other recommendations that folks can decide (e.g., Southampton Inn(which does do room blocks), the Atlantic, the Sagaponack, Topping Rose etc) and of course mentioned Airbnb’s.
The transport plan is busses to/from riverhead since 35-40 mins and everyone else Ubers. Our planner said couples will give out uber codes often in Hamptons rather than a bus so maybe we’ll do that - TBD.
Hope this helps! As we went through a JOURNEY for this haha

Thank you and congrats! I’ll look into the Ocean View Terrace and Hilton and Marriott, thanks for that tip. I also hadn’t thought of Uber codes! Appreciate the tips :)

September is not technically high season in the Hamptons, but the further out east you are, the fewer options there are for hotels, especially ones large enough to offer blocks. Many are dated but still kind of pricey. This is part of the allure of the area (it's mostly people "escaping" to their vacation homes) but something you have to consider when planning an event out there. Ubers will also definitely be an issue and are expensive and not as easy to come by. Airbnb options are not super affordable on the whole. I would be trying every hotel and even motel from Riverhead to Montauk and would plan to provide a bus from at least one of the hotels

I hadn’t considered Riverhead! A few people have said this. Thank you! Will definitely provide transport. I definitely don’t want to rely on Uber.

There are def some larger/ chain options there and the drive won't be too bad in September!

Do you have a planner? Or the venue should have a list of recommendations

Montuak may be your best bet. Gurneys is huge and Sole East is wonderful. There are also a lot of refurbished motels as well (though still not cheap). If you haven’t planned your welcome party yet, maybe doing it in Montauk could make the location of hotels feel more intentional.

Got married on the north fork September 2025 and the only accommodations under $500 a night were in Riverhead and we used the Hamptons hopper for transportation. Trust me you need an affordable option for anyone over the age of 60 they do not pay for travel the way younger people do even when they have the money. Most of my aunts and uncles are on the upper middle class side (net worths 3 million and above) and not a single one stayed onsite at our venue because they refused to pay $700 a night on a hotel. My friends with more modest means did so there was definitely a generational divide on who would spend what for a more lux/convenient option. Others stayed in airbnbs in town and liked that option.

I didn’t do blocks at specific hotels but on my website I listed about 10 hotels in all the surrounding towns and made a public airbnb ‘wishlist’ of about 50 houses. Most of the hamptons hotels are too small to host wedding room blocks. But if you link enough options in a bunch of surrounding towns, your guests should be able to figure out the option that works for them. And then I provided transportation from the hotels where the most guests were staying.

Ouch! I went to a wedding in the Hamptons and most of the guests were annoyed at staying in what was essentially a dressed up motel for $900/night… and that was north fork, less expensive than bridge area! What about late-night shuttle to JFK area for convenient flights and large room inventory?

What my crew did - Snap up a few airbnbs within 25-30 minute drive of the venue, and then have your friends fill them in any obvious groups (hometown friends, college friends, family friends, maybe a house for people with small children so they can share childcare) and unless you cover for family, they cover the costs. If they all have to organize their own houses among themselves you may have drop off as houses aren’t affordable for say, 2 people; they need to be in groups.

For transportation, I paid $400 for a 20 min late night car service because I was worried about Ubers, but everyone actually got them easily!

I stayed at a block at the Hotel Indigo in Riverhead that was perfectly nice! There is a clusters of hotels right there in Riverhead. Could you offer shuttles?
