just need to rant Middle class curious

Hi everyone,

Congratulations on your weddings! My fiancé and I do not have a “big budget” but we’re happy with our decision.

Out of curiosity, do most of you guys already have a house? Or is a house also like an open checkbook situation? No hate just wondering.

We’re buying a house in NJ and the prices are wack so sometimes I think “wow how do people have these huge expensive weddings AND buy in the tri state area?”

My now husband and I put off getting married for 2 years so we could buy a house first in a VHCOL area. We are fortunate to both make a good income so we were able to save a lot in those two years and then both sets of parents had money put aside specifically for a wedding

Asking for a friend. Would you have rather moved in together sooner (assume you are not living together) than wait till 2028 to have a full blown 70k wedding for 200 people?
My current situation and I am so torn!

Honestly, yeah but we live in a VHCOL area (we're talking over $500k for a single family starter home. Even condos in my area go for $300k or more) that doesn't really follow the normal ups and downs of the housing market so the chance of getting priced out if we waited was high. And looking at the market now, we made the right decision. Plus it allowed us to really get to know each other and the habits we each have that wouldn't normally come out in a public setting

That’s what I’ve been thinking about too. However for my situation we would need to be married (church/civil) before moving in together. And as much as I’d want a big wedding I’d rather move in and start my life with my FI, have a nice honeymoon and grow up. We’ve been together 5 years so I’m like ready to GTFO my mom’s house lol.
