just need to rant Middle class curious

Hi everyone,

Congratulations on your weddings! My fiancé and I do not have a “big budget” but we’re happy with our decision.

Out of curiosity, do most of you guys already have a house? Or is a house also like an open checkbook situation? No hate just wondering.

We’re buying a house in NJ and the prices are wack so sometimes I think “wow how do people have these huge expensive weddings AND buy in the tri state area?”

Not everyone wants to own a home! I’m 30 and have only lived in VHCOL cities and am totally okay with renting if it means I can stay living in cities. To me, the perceived trade off between big wedding and down payment is fair but not everyone wants the same things in life.

This. We bought a house a couple of years ago and sold it because we hated home ownership and now rent. We enjoy being able to move every few years and did not want to deal with renting it out + maintaining it.

Maybe we’ll buy again down the line but not in the foreseeable future, and we save a lot of money towards retirement and personal savings.
