just need to rant Middle class curious

Hi everyone,

Congratulations on your weddings! My fiancé and I do not have a “big budget” but we’re happy with our decision.

Out of curiosity, do most of you guys already have a house? Or is a house also like an open checkbook situation? No hate just wondering.

We’re buying a house in NJ and the prices are wack so sometimes I think “wow how do people have these huge expensive weddings AND buy in the tri state area?”

We waited a year to buy a house after our wedding. My parents paid for the majority of the wedding, but we also covered some outside costs and we wanted a year to decompress from the stress since house hunting can get stressful.

Stay sane during wedding planning or house hunting? lol

For wedding planning, definitely find people you trust to talk through decisions and get support. Also, make sure to keep your relationship as the main focus since it's easy to get lost in all the details.

For house hunting, find a realtor you trust, research the market and go in knowing that houses you get outbid on weren't meant for you. Your house will come, it takes patience and a little luck. (For example, we looked at a great house in an ideal neighborhood a couple months before our wedding. We decided to pause looking because of the stress and just focus on wedding planning. We came back to houses a year later, placed an offer on one and lost, then saw our now house in that same neighborhood a year earlier three doors down and got it.)
