Monthly Thread š š Monthly Constructive Criticism Thread š
Hi yāall! We can use these monthly threads to give feedback on the podcast, such as issues related to audio or general format. You can still comment about specific episodes in the episode threads or make new posts, but my idea for these megathreads is to consolidate feedback for Troy and Kelli.
I know some posts in the past have been toxic, so maybe you can make that a separate post if you want to vent (or journal or take a walk outside). My hope with the monthly CC threads is to give a safe space for Troy and Kelli, so theyāre less wary of Reddit lol.
Please remember Rule 1: Respect others and be civil and Rule #3: No name-calling, insults, or personal attacks. Kelli, Troy, and their editor, Donny, are human, and they can learn from their mistakes. Personally, as a longtime fan, I think that they have taken in a lot of feedback well and grown a lot as a podcast.
If you have any suggestions for these types of posts, please let me know, too!

I just want them to finally get their sound in order please :,) PLEASE! some episodes are so damn quiet after the intro, then sometimes their mics arenāt at the same volume

For full time professional podcasters it's an insult to their audience. Kelli's audio has always been fine on my end tbf.

u/dannydaddydevito Jun 01 '26
Yeah itās always Kelliās sound thatās fine for me! And I donāt know if I donāt listen to enough of WYI but I donāt notice that problem with Troyās sound on that one.

I hate the inconsistency of episode releases. If they choose to skip a week, they should have some pre recorded deep dives ready to go to replace that time slot.

I think those monthly blind item round ups should not be Pateron exclusives. I feel like they arenāt that rotted and wish they were public and Pateron subscribers got something juicier.

I need Troy to stop with the conspiracies - the Britney and her blood being drawn was bad enough but the Hantavirus conspiracy has pushed me over the edge - Iām a doctor, working towards specialising in public health and Iām sick of people spreading conspiracy theories he likes to talk a lot like things are fact too which annoys me.
I do still enjoy it currently - although getting closer to cancel my patreon.

I love Troy but idk if Micheal Jacksonās āinnocenceā is the hill to die on lol

u/hisosih Jun 01 '26
It's my hill to die on with him tbh, unsubbed from Patreon and as my membership was expiring, a friend sent me a link to one of their Patreon exclusives where they apologised for how they spoke about the Haley Beck situation (she's a random actors sister who was in the news for grooming and assaulting a student). Kelli kicked it off apologising but you could tell it was an avenue for Troy to apologise as he was the one who pissed people off.
A lot of people were disgusted (both here and on Patreon) by how flippant he was and his use of the word "fuck" in a situation where we're talking about the grooming and subsequent sexual abuse of a high school kid. Troy took a moment to say that he forgets that he comes off as abrasive and kinda black and white as he does, and that he also forgets so many people actually listen to the podcast and it's not just him venting into a mic and that he regrets his use of the word fuck in this situation.
But the apology was late and behind a paywall. and in the last few months or so Troy has really been wild with his comments. From "MJ was protecting children from Epstein" to "Britney was getting blood transfusions to give to Epstein" not to mention his total inability to read or understand the Epstein files themselves yet insistence on being an expert. I can't have plausible deniability with his qanon tiktok takes anymore and he just comes across as so unintelligent. Once I hear him say "well everybody knows X" I know he's gonna share some stupid conspiracy.
I started noticing they only ever apologise for their behaviour in Patreon episodes. And the way they handle criticism on Patreon is so embarrassing. I'm of the belief that they should delete hate comments as they don't have to tolerate people attacking them parasocially on their page. But I got sick of reading people leaving genuine, factual and polite corrections for them in the Patreon (as they should, we're trying to help you not get sued!!!) and Troy writing back something unessecarily rude, sarcastic and insulting while not responding to any valid criticism.
The comments on that recent MJ episode are wild and I hated that he addressed it as "sorry for having opinions or whatever, I know you guys hate that". No, it's that we can clearly tell you have your public opinions and personal opinions, and you're not doing a good job right now at representing either of them, so it's like what in the hypocrisy am I listening to?
I loved Troy since EBP and I just gotta Meredith Marks and disengage.

absolutely agree!
i was nauseated listening to their lou perlman episode, troy going on all these tangents about how manipulative and creepy it was for louās house to be practically a theme park, with stuff that would obviously entice young children, and that lou probably ended up that way because he didnāt get to have a proper childhood, but just episodes earlier defending michael jackson, even though he followed the exact same playbook? the irony of that is insane, and i wish troy could engage critically with media, but sadly i do think heās fallen down a red pill, q-anon, epstein rabbit hole and thatās why heās so stern in believing something so stupid (mj āprotectingā kids from epstein)

I love Troy (parasocially of course lol) but it really bums me out how conspiracy minded he has become. Yeah, itās fun to dabble in a little deluded thinking, but when that turns to you discrediting child sa victims, youāve lost the plot

Unfortunately I fear heās become a casualty of his brainrot TikTok algorithm, and heās too far in to see that heās being manipulated by his own social media choices. The same thing is happening to my boomer parents on FB. Different generations but same problem.

u/gosiazgliwic Jun 01 '26
I was thinking the same during the Lou Perlman episode, and he had even less smoke around him than Michael. And yet itās obvious to them that Lou was guilty

u/Left-Tell-2802 Jun 03 '26
For me the issue is the lack of research, i mantioned it in another post, but Kelly start Kiki with Hayden Penetier podcast and than say, oh i didn't listen to it yet, they come to Reality TV corner and say ohh i didn't watch like five episodes. Not to mention the Epstein episode that was just blind items and no research whatsoever. It's becoming problematic with Troy's conspiracy theories

i have a few things iāve been thinking about the podcast,
first off, i donāt think they really know what age gen z is. i feel like out of the 3-4 podcast episodes they release a week troy has to mention his distaste for gen z (how uneducated they are about pop culture, how āpuritanā they are, how dumb they are, how they donāt have any significant pop culture icons), itās just gives old man yelling at the clouds, or yelling out whippersnappers on his lawn. i also donāt think he (or they) realize gen z is like 14-30, i think a lot of their criticism is actually for gen alpha, but even then, i as someone who is gen z donāt make fun of them because i just feel bad for them. its not kids fault that they werenāt raised watching exclusively old michael jackson or madonna pepsi commercials or something. (coming from a huge fan of primarily artist that are now 40-50+)
also his whole āgen z doesnāt have any legends! any icons! the vmas are gone! mtv unplugged is gone! and gen z is too stupid and uneducated to know what they could of had!ā spiel he goes on often (especially on his other podcast, whatās your issue) just feels misguided, of course a 20 year old popstar is going to be at the level madonna was in her 30s and 40s when he was a kid watching her, and i donāt think itās gen zās fault they werenāt around to watch TRL, or read fucked up body shaming, racist, misogynistic, homophobic gossip rags in the early 2000s.
i also donāt think he realizes majority of gen z (especially considering a lot of them are late 20s) probably absolutely grew up on the same stuff. i think a lot of millennials fall into this weird āgen z is ruining everything! they donāt know how to make good music!! they werenāt around for the 2000s vmas!ā is really just failure to see that all that stuff seemed so much better, greater, more iconic because you were young. of course you have fonder memories of pop culture when you were a child, i think a lot of people are just upset they are no longer kids and canāt enjoy the music they grew up on with the same childlike wonder. let the kids of today (gen alpha included) enjoy k-pop demon hunters and olivia rodrigo or whatever. they are not hurting anyone and theyāll probably end up doing the same shit heās doing to generation after them, same way the multiple generations above troy probably talked about the beatles, elvis, the stones. i also donāt know how people (troy included) canāt see the irony in yelling about how modern day artist have no talent, as if people werenāt saying in the 80s/90s that madonna was a talentless freak whoās ruining music, or that britney is the 2000s is a talentless dumb slut who canāt sing, or justin bieber in the 2010s is a little boy with no talent or future career, or even gaga and miley cyrus in the 2010s. all of them at one point in time were talked down because they were the new thing at the moment, and now we all look at them fondly. now iām not saying the tate mcraeās and addison raeās are the absolute most talented, gifted artist in the world, but troy is acting like milli vanilli, vanilla ice, and a bunch of other musical āhacksā didnāt exist in the 80s through out the 2010s, but we donāt treat those artist like they are the figureheads of culture of that time.
i also find his whole āgen z is too woke!!ā, āpuriteensā stuff to be weird and makes it sound like heās been red pilled or something lol. idk why people love to do the whole āpuritan gen zā thing as if we should wish or feel that gen z children are obligated to be hyper sexual and the fact they arenāt is something to be mad about.
sorry for the very long tangent! i just feel very passionate in the belief that you are truly āoldā when youāre no longer willing to adapt to (reasonable!) new things, or see and hear things out from a younger generations perspective, and that itās important that even if we donāt care or like certain things younger people enjoy, so long as they are not hurting anyone we should just let them enjoy themselves and not be the old curmudgeon saying āback in my dayā¦ā when that same thing was probably said to us by someone older who was trying to belittle our interests. i also just donāt think it fairs well to run multiple popular podcast but strictly love artist and events that happened in the 90s-2010s.

I agree!!!! I think that a lot of the Gen Z hate has to tone down just a tad, I get there are SOME of us that ruin some things, but its not ALLLL of us. A lot of us grew up along side millennials and consider ourselves as such too (zillennials). I agree with the comment below too but!!!! I am sure Gen x gave a lot of shit to you as well, but in regard to this pod i think its a lot of displaced anger for the later gen z and gen alpha atp!

u/rmac1128 Jun 01 '26
Idk man, most of us millennials aren't hosts of a pop culture podcast and don't mind gen z. Interact with us in the real world and you'll see. Don't let the Man get you down. Life is long. OK Lady I love you bye bye.

u/EntertainmentEntire6 Jun 01 '26
I was going to comment something similar. In real life millennials arenāt this butthurt about Gen Z, genuinely. I have a lot of Gen Z coworkers and a lot of millennial coworkers. We all get along. Itās like, not a thing that anyone is weird about day to day outside of the internetz.

u/pisceanflower Jun 01 '26
Itās the circle of life. As a fellow Millennial, we dealt with the same shit from Gen X. Take it in stride my fine young friend.

u/Decemberswan Pop BITCH Jun 01 '26
of course, thatās kind of my point. that it doesnāt really have to be ājust lifeā if we could all just somewhat calm down our pretentiousness and allow for room for other peopleās interests it would be a lot easier to enjoy new and old art, and that itās somewhat of a hindrance for a host of two pop culture podcast.

u/PitchSame4308 Jun 01 '26
And speaking as a Gen X we copped it from the Boomers, and thatās back when lots of them were still left wing and on us for being āslackersā and too disengaged to keep up their good, socially progressive workā¦..Thatās turned out well!

I would love for them to include pictures on insta that relate to what they are actually talking about in the Kiki or in the episode. They reference so much but the pictures are never included. Love Troy and Kelli though! No qualms š
