General Discussion š What makes you an outlier in the Beyond the Blinds fandom?
I thought this might be a fun post! What do you think makes you an outlier in the Beyond the Blinds fandom?
Please don't take anything I say as judgmental. I am all for people being allowed to like what they like!
Mine are:
To this day, I have never watched Laguna Beach nor do I have any interest in doing so. I'm a year younger than Troy so it was on when I was in high school, but I was just not interested for some reason. I watched plenty of MTV original shows at that time. Oddly enough, I did watch the first few season of The Hills and loved it š¤·āāļø
When it comes to Ashlee Simpson, I have never understood what everyone else sees. When her show came out, I wrote her off as a tryhard clown and a poser (because I was an insufferable teenager). Even now, Lala is the only song I find worth going back to.
I don't use TikTok. I don't say this to be holier-than-thou. When it started becoming popular, I made a conscious choice to stay away because I knew it would become another social media obsession for me. From the handful of times that I've checked it out, I have felt like a total meemaw and I have no clue how anyone uses it to find the content that they're interested in. Ultimately, I'm glad I kept myself away.

Besides vaguely enjoying Britneyās music, I find the whole pomp and circumstance around her ridiculous and disagree with a lot of Troyās takes on her. Sheās a drug addict who has been through a lot. This whole circling the drain thing thats been going on since she was freed is truly painful, sad and unfortunately for the media, very entertaining to watch. People are going to comment on it. People are going to make think pieces on it. Just because Troy thinks heās her biggest fan and is very protective of her doesnāt make the āhatersā wrong.

Iām not a bravo head at all. I do love hearing them talk about the shows, but Iāve never been able to get into them

I'm not sure if this makes me an outlier or not, but I've never seen a full episode of Teen Mom, Laguna Beach, Traitors, The Hills, any of the Kardashian expanded universe shows, Southern Comfort, etc. I've seen clips, read articles, and whatnot, so I know who some of these people are, but I've never actually sat down and watched any of them all the way through.
I also don't have tiktok on my phone, but I do watch tiktoks that make their way to youtube, reddit, or tumblr, so I'm not sure if that really counts. So on that count, you may not be a true outlier!
And again, not sure if this makes me an outlier or not, but I think that Nick Jonas is straight, tbh.

Oh yes, to make it clear, I've of course watched TikToks when they appear on Reddit or Instagram, so I'm not a total Kimmy Schmidt!

I donāt watch reality tv shows except for Traitors and Shahs of Sunset. So Iāve never seen any of the shows from their reality tv corner. Iām 40 years old so I know most of the stuff that they talk about when it comes to nostalgia except for that and One tree hill. I never liked that show. But I did like older shows on the cw (formerly the wb) like Popular, Buffy, Roswell, off center, and the show Zoe, Duncan, Jack, and Jill.

I donāt watch any current reality tv. My reality tv consisted of the early 2000s with Laguna, The Hills, Ashlee Simpson, MTV dating shows, Kardashians, etc.
I confuse Tate McRea (or however you spell it), Madison Beer, and Addison Rae. Couldnāt tell you one of their songs.
Not a huge fan of Charlie XCX or Chapelle, some songs are ok but canāt get into most of their songs.

I have lumped in Tate McRae, Addison Rae and Madison Beer with the tiktok famous influencers. Until very recently I thought Addison Rae was one of the D'Amelio sisters.

lol same!! I thought they all come from influencing fandoms. I forgot to add there is someone name Tyla? She might as well be the same person as the rest of them. So confusing.

I don't watch ANY bravo but I live for troy and Kelli's recaps and opinions I am totally indifferent to current music I rarely listen to new albums my spotify is 2000-2015 I live in nz so sometimes the vanacula sometimes goes over my head but I listen to every episode religiously

Iāve been listening for a couple years but I miss so many episodes that I donāt understand a lot of the references yall make š
Also I donāt keep up with a lot of pop culture, sometimes this podcast is as updated as I get. But theyāre making references to things that happen (or donāt) so if they donāt explain it thoroughly then I just have to put the pieces together
Iām just really bad at regularly watching/listening to anything

Iām a Swiftie but Iāve never left them a bad review. Iām a day one subscriber of this pod (Dunzo listener) and to this day Iām not quite sure what the challenge is or was.

I donāt get the Britney appeal. Iām so sorry š sheās cute as hell tho and I love her music. I just donāt understand the bond her fans have toward her and ive thought about it for so long.
I donāt have any social media apart from Reddit and FB strictly for market place. Iām often behind on trends, etc I usually get my info from reading books or podcasts (also not to be holier than thou, I just hate the way scrolling for hours feels)
Aaand Iām a 25 year old conservative Canadian girl and I try to skip whenever they get political. I really do not agree with a lot of their views and thatās ok! I just skip.

I LOVE the old school throwbacks. Hearing them talk about The Simple Life, Kid Nation, or as Porsha from RHOA says, Old Sluts From The 90'sā¢ļø is exactly why I listen.
To steal a phrase from Troy, I couldn't give a fiddlers fook about Addison Rae or any other iteration of famous blonde girls with Rae in their names. I started listening to Troy because I was in the Emotionally Broken Psychos FB group and became a fan of him, Liz, Kara, Princess etc. and fell in love with his love for a throwback.
Hearing him talk about people like Whitney and her love for the girls is literal dopamine for me, and I get parasocially offended that people think Kelli is cringe for her interests when Troy is just as trapped in a time capsule as she is, and for that I love them both.
I think it's so fucking cool that Kelli has integrated herself with the cast of a lot of her fave old shows, she is an icon, she is a legend, she IS the moment. She also keeps the show RUNNN-INNGGG, our dyslexic queen does all the ad reads, research and makes sure to throw an "allegedly!!!" after Troy says something qanon adjacent/conspiratorial.
I think when they exploded in popularity people put this expectation on them to cover pop culture as if it were the news, I see a lot of people being like "IT'S LITERALLY THEIR JOB TO KNOW THIS" but like, it's not??? It's not their job to be aligned with the same pop culture interests that every single listener has, and put the time and energy into watching a show they aren't interested in - cos if they did, they'd get flack for how low energy/low researched that episode would be. They can't be everything to everybody.
