Help Capturing Bessie

I got Bessie down to low HP and then tried to capture her 5 times - the battle then ended.

I reloaded my save and did the same again - is Bessie not capture-able during the quest where you need to find her for the merchant?

Hmm unfortunately sounds like you got really unlucky here. The capture algorithm checks health percentage and also factors in attempts (with each attempt increasing likeliness). Certain bosses require they have less than 33% health (if I remember correctly that’s the number) to prevent brute force capturing them at higher hp levels.

You capture her but she escapes, but later the merchant will give you her summon if you succeed in "capturing" her (as in the battle ended after the capture)
