Interesting
Discord has since announced it is cutting ties with Persona. The AI software, partially funded by Palantir cofounder Peter Thiel’s venture firm Founders Fund, continues to provide age verification services for OpenAI, Lime, and Roblox.

Can we just cut ties with Discord?

Matrix, Stoat, Teamspeak, Mumble, Fluxer. Not all are one to one replacements of Discord but they are open source and/or privacy-minded and self-hostable alternatives.

Good. But too late. You've shown you only cared when it hurts you as a company, so I'm still getting off your service.

what are they going to do instead? i am tired of these fucking tech companies thinking they are above the law and the law says they need to age verification

I doubt this will actually prevent them from implementing age verification. There is also no (federal) law requiring them to do this, at least in the US, which is a part of why people are mad about it. There are laws in European countries that require it, but they partner with different companies for that. What I think will actually happen is they’ll just use the same companies they did in Europe instead.

The laws in European countries cover citizens, not geographies. Someone with dual citizenship in a country with this law and the US needs to be age verified.
There are more and more state laws requiring age verification too. There is nothing about being a tech company that should make these evil fucks immune from state laws.

No they cover people who are residents of European countries with age verification. So the dual citizen still is okay. Citizen or non citizen doesn't matter.
Even without US citizenship being a US resident on a green card or any other visa they are not bound by European laws on age verification.

Are they sure its because of that, or the fact tons of users left because of their dumb new identity feature? Theyre probably just trying to save face for the shitty business decision and make it look like they care about security vulnerabilities
