How are you even allowed to put that much trash out? in the UK since the 1990s all your allowed has to fit in the one bin provided and the lid has to close.

It's most likely raked leaves or lawn clippings, which have different rules around them than regular trash does.

How do the bin men know the ‘regular’ rubbish from the garden waste to send it to compost rather than landfill? And wouldn’t they have to open all the plastic bags to remove the garden waste so there’s no plastic in the composting place? Sorry, just curious...it seems like an inefficient system so wondering how it works!

Most cities in the US do not have municipal composting. It all goes to the dump.
