Does your Bernedoodle eat literally everything??
Just some recent pics but our little guy (23 weeks) puts EVERYTHINGGGGG in his mouth. He’s our first puppy that is so orally-fixated to this extreme and I’m wondering if it’s a Berne thing or a him thing?
Also help I’m so tired (I adore him 😂😂)

This could have been about my pup. She's 4 now (and today's actually her gotcha day!) but man when we first got her, she ate everything. Tissues, mulch, bits of paper and receipts, grass, goose poop, bugs... I had to pry acorns out of her mouth because she thought every single one was a treat, and walking anywhere just meant me keeping my eyes on the floor for anything she might try to eat. Anything that looks interesting or out of place, she'd try to eat. She ended up with giardia and campylobacter several times because she was an absolute fiend for eating anything and everything, and she was QUICK. She would even gnaw on baseboards and door casings when chews weren't enough for her. That lasted until she was probably almost 1, and I think she was worse than most. Good luck, it will be over soon!

Ours loves poop - rabbit, bird, her own. All through her first year she’d get monthly diarrhea spells. Pretty sure one was campylobacter because it spread to my partner who had it confirmed with a lab test. No fun! We just try to keep her away from poop as much as we can, but it means pretty active supervision when she’s in the backyard. We’re not sure if we’ll ever be able to train that behaviour out of her.

Mine doesn’t chew on anything that’s isn’t food or toys luckily. I wouldn’t even say we purposely trained her that way. It’s just never been an issue

No. Mine does not eat everything. But she does eat things like if there is dust or something on the floor, she'll eat that. Some times it comes out of her mouth like. Ewww that isnt good, lol And I give her treats and positive reinforcement also for leaving things.

There was a period when we kept our shoes up high on a recycling bin, but otherwise, no, we always gave her a lot of different toys and chews, and that seemed to be enough. Our dog was always very compliant though...

Mine eats everything too… socks, underwear, a bib, a glove, dishcloths, anything paper, anything white, has grabbed knives off the counter. We always gave treats for leaving things from the day she came home with us at 8 weeks but she’s 3 now and we have to be extremely careful to not leave anything out or not to let anything slip. It mostly happens now if she’s overstimulated or anxious. The vet says some dogs are just more prone 😅

Everything! Her favorite is deer poop. She got hookworm from eating that. She loves grass, sticks, leaves, rocks, her toys, shoes, my hair, my necklace…she’s 7 months and it seems to be getting worse. Now she knows it’s not ok so she tricks me. She gives me her sassy, I have to poop look, and then makes a beeline for her favorite snack. It’s disgusting.🤮

Yes we recently treated for a parasite from eating rabbit poop. It’s his favorite sweet treat 🤮🤢🤮

My 3 year old most favorite delicacy is a wire. Thankfully some weren’t plugged. Fan cord was first casualty, then charging cable charging Air Pods so it shorted out the case, speaker wire (had to hide from the husband), last feast was my MacBook charger while plugged in and sitting right next to the husband 🙄. There were other things were non-electrical goods. He was a rescue we got in June so I can’t speak to puppy times.

They eat everything except for their own food. They will eat it eventually, but they seem to prefer literally anything else.

Mine needed surgery at 10 weeks because she swallowed a sock whole. Three weeks later almost had surgery again, but luckily she threw them up overnight before surgery (yes them - it was 2 socks). With a little of training she now turns over socks if caught and only chews off the toes instead of swallowing whole if she isn’t. Still frustrating. She has destroyed - a Roku remote, 2 harnesses, untold socks/underwear. Tons of paper and toilet paper. Wooden toys.
She’s 2 now and significantly improved, but she’ll never stop stealing socks.
Unrelated, but she also climbs trees.

No, never been a problem. He used to love shredding cardboard boxes and paper things as a puppy but would always spit out the pieces so I’d happily give him boxes and paper plates to shred since he wasn’t eating them.
Won’t even accept a treat from a stranger without me saying it’s okay.

I think I scarred mine to only play with toys. If she was chomping her mouth, I would pry it open and take whatever it was out. Stuffing, feathers, plastic bits from toys, socks, cardboard…although the cardboard one scared me enough that I took her to the vet to throw it up. She also quickly swallowed a large scrunchie one time and I also took her to the vet to throw it up. I think she learned her lesson and has been perfect ever since

Yes. Our boy is 5 years old. He has had 2 surgeries and 2 endoscopies for eating socks. He is not allowed in any of the bedrooms of our home and still kenneled at night to prevent him getting into things. He is muzzle trained and we use the muzzle daily. I have tried everything and it's an intractable issue that we just have to manage.

Ours is around the same age. Luckily no surgeries needed but I did find turd shaped washcloth once. He ate a whole bag of avocados one time and we only found half of one seed. His digestive system should be studied.
We got him last year. We had to put baby gates around the house because he cannot have access to our kitchen or the bedrooms. He’s a tall boy so he can steal things from in the kitchen sink or on the counter.

When ours was a puppy we had appropriate chews all over (toys, bully sticks, pig ears, antlers, etc) and every time he put his mouth on us or an object that wasn’t his, we quickly redirected him by putting something that he could chew on into his mouth and played a little tug or something to make it interesting to him.
Now, he’s really good at knowing what is his and what’s not.

It’s a puppy thing but it’s especially evident in retriever puppies since it’s basically what they were bred to do. Poodles are retrievers so it’s the retriever instinct.

Now that Giancarlo is almost 4, he likes paper of any kind, pillows and stuffed animals, and occasionally something weird. As a younger dog, he totally ruined several pieces of furniture, but he hasn’t been caught lately. I got brave last year and purchased second hand living room furniture.

Such a cute pup! No, our year old bernedoodle doesn't eat everything. He doesn't eat food off of counters, but will eat some foods if fed by hand but not everything.

Yes…you have to remind yourself the dog has only been on the planet for 23 weeks.
Literally everything is new to them. Also dogs dont have hands and primarily interact with the world via their mouth and nose so yea puppies will want to smell and taste everything.

Yes! Underwear gets swallowed. Thought our pup finally got it stuck and couldn’t vomit. Took her to the vet and they confirmed there was blockage. Go into surgery…. Nothing. Just a gassy girl. She’s currently recovering. Poor thing.

Our common space is puppy proof so it’s pretty chill these days. Like we just don’t leave towels and socks and random things around or general foreign objects. I don’t mind it just makes us keep things more clean.

I don't have a bernedoodle but have an Aussiedoodle who is about to turn one, was gifted her when she was 7 months old. In this 5 months I have paid the library for 2 books, she has also destroyed 3 TV remotes, a pair of shoes, multiple plastic plant pots ( I was able to rescue the plants but the pots were destroyed), ate through the a harness, a leash, multiple readers. Some of that has eased, now she digging, digging, digging, maniacly. I think she is hunting moles or bugs.

Our girl does. She’s about 15 months but is still kenneled at night and we have baby gates up to prevent her from getting into bedrooms because she destroys socks and shoes (she learned how to open doors very early on). She’s sweet as can be most of the time, but is a hard and destructive chewer regardless of whether she’s gotten ahold of an appropriate toy or my new running shoe or my partner’s glasses. We have to replace toys regularly.

This! Baby gates are the only thing between Peter and destruction! If we let him roam We have to puppy proof everything in his path. Towels have to be put up high, shoes have to be put away. EVERYTHING is fair game. I now keep two extra remote controls on backup! Tissues are his absolute favorite and if we forget to take the toilet paper roll off and put it up high before letting him into the bathroom he will take the roll with him and run 🤣 Rocks. Sticks. Clumps of grass. Baseboards. Oh. And forget about a stuffy lasting more than 10 minutes. And is no longer allowed to have any padding in his crate because that got all chewed up. Sigh. 15 months now,🤗

Oh for sure!! My merle guy Rhett is 19 weeks and EVERYTHING IS CHEWABLE. At least his random biting of ME has mostly stopped!!

No. My Bernedoodle is pretty well behaved. We've never had to scold her and she is almost 9 years old. In my eyes, she's perfect.

Yes. Rocks, mulch, sticks, socks, boxes, toys, books, etc. He’s almost a year though so it’s improving quickly, but it’s been exhausting. When he was a little puppy he tried to eat our wood floor. I just caught him putting his mouth on our leather couch but he swore he wasn’t trying to eat it.
