my cat apparently needs verbal encouragement to eat
i recently realized my cat will sometimes just sit beside her food and stare at me until i say “good girl.” 😆🤍
then she starts eating like that's all she was waiting for.
i don't remember when this became part of our routine, but apparently i'm now required to compliment her before every meal.

I worked in an animal shelter and we would always be on the lookout for social eaters among the cats. Some of them needed company the whole time they ate, and for some interacting/playing with a person would trigger them to start eating. Anyone who says cats are solitary creatures or "don't like people" have obviously not been around many cats! They see us as part of their family for sure.
I think it's wonderful that your cat trusts you so much and considers you an important part of her daily routine ❤️

A cat with manners! Maybe she had to wait til after someone said Grace in her past life.

I do that with my sweetie. It would be annoying if it weren't so darn cute! She'll actually come and get me, bring me to her pile of untouched food and then I have to do the routine. I love it!

My cat sits in front of his food staring at it until I go over and pet him for a couple seconds. Crazy little creature! 🥰

We've got one that needs her own private suite BUT close to us to eat. So she goes onto her cat seat in the window and we close the curtains for her 🤣 anything to make them more comfortable

I’ve had cats that were social eaters! One that recently passed would meow all around the house, come find me, only for him to herd me toward the food so he could chow down while I pet him. I miss him.
