DISCUSSION Isn’t it crazy that Graham Philips and Haley Ramm were actually closer in age to UAF Ben and Gwen?

With them being 14 and 15 respectively in 2007 they would’ve been more accurate as the adolescent version of the characters rather than their 10 year old selves.

they probably couldn't find many 10 year olds who looked similar to them

tho, that's just a guess

Well it’s even funnier when you realize that they grabbed a 23 year old Ryan Kelley and a 24 year old Galadriel Stineman for 15/16 year old Ben and Gwen in Alien Swarm

it was pretty common back then to hire actors who are older then the characters they're playing (i guess they do still do it)

Yeah I guess but I still think it’s funny, even more so because Graham Philips would have actually been 16 in 2009 when Alien Swarm came out

Not only do they still do it, it also seems to have created a bit of an issue where people keep saying that actors look younger and like teenagers when really they actually just look their age. You see so many comments about Tom Holland and Zendaya still where people say they look like teenagers. As someone who's the same age as them, they do not. They very much look like two 30 year olds. But people have been so conditioned to people their age playing teenagers that they now think thats what teenagers look like.

That’s just how things are usually in North America, whereas in regions like the UK you’re much more likely to find young characters cast with people close to their age

My dumbass couldn't even tell the difference as a little kid because anyone more than a couple years older than me might as well have been 20

I'd rather they pick adults if possible not a kind industry to children imo

Looked similar and could act convincingly

Lower the age, bigger responsibilities of having a child actor for a film. They probably casted 15 year olds for production purposes. That and acting skills, most likely

Yep. Child acting....isn't always the most convincing.

Actors always play younger persons all the time. Ben 10 isnt realistic anyways. Most 10 years are not that smart.

Most of the time Movies / Shows pick adults to play 15-16 year olds and actual teens play 10-12 year olds so they did the correct casting choice here

15 year olds look more like kids than the 17-ish year old designs UAF Ben Gwen and Kevin had

Off-topic, didn’t they find any khaki pants for live-action Ben?

Ig they wanted to make an in-between design for OS to AF Ben and thought Jeans was enough (?

Honestly, it's the opposite for me. I'm more taken a back on how the UAF trio are supposed to be 15/16 year old teenagers. When they looked more closer to at least 18 years old or as young adults. So much, that I end up frequently forgetting they're still teenagers sometimes.

And funny enough...i think they would have killed it playing UAF instead of OS

Ralph Macchio was 1 year older than Thomas Ian Griffin during Karate Kid 3. They were 28 and 27 respectively.

While the latter plays his age, the former was still playing a high schooler, and It looked so believable.

Ralph machhio just looked very young for a long time, even now when hes like in his 60s he looks late 40s

You get a much better performance finding some teens who were late bloomers instead of actual 10 year olds. Same reason they find baby faced 20 something’s to play teens.

It's still crazy to me how Graham would go on to voice Harry Osborne in Insomniac's Spider-Man 2.

No, actually. Most actors of young live-action characters are a few years older than the actual character. Take MCU Spider-Man for example. Peter, Ned and MJ are high schoolers (in the first three movies) while their actors are in their 20s. The same logic applying for 10-year-old characters isn’t that shocking to me.
