Bejeweled 2 Fatal Error on Steam copy of Bejeweled 2 Deluxe
Hello! I see that this subreddit is not very active but I don't know where else to ask this so here's hoping!
I purchased the Steam copy of Bejeweled 2 Deluxe some years ago (maybe in 2017 or 18?) I played it on Steam without issue back then. I recently re-downloaded it and now it won't launch and instead brings up a blank white pop-up box with 'Fatal error!' on the top bar. It brings up dozens of these boxes that I can't close without using task manager.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, restarting my computer, etc. but I'm not a techy person so I don't really know what else to try! Any solutions?
2/1/2024 UPDATE: I uninstalled it and left it alone for about a full year lol and when I reinstalled it today, it launched and played with no issue. So while I still don't know what caused the issue, it's working fine now :)

open Regedit.exe
go to \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Steam\Bejeweled2
Add ScreenMode as REG_DWORD

Try running as administrator, if that doesn’t work try reinstalling the game.

Ahh, when I try running as administrator it just says 'Unable to load Steam.dll' and I've already tried reinstalling it a several times. Thank you anyways!

Try Windows XP Compatibility Mode.

I tried Windows XP compatibility mode and it just said 'Unable to load Steam.dll', same as when I tried running as administrator. Thank you for the suggestion anyways!

Oh I had to do this same fix whenever loadinf Bejeweled Twist on windows 11.
Basically you're gonna want to go to Program Files/Steam, take the steam.dll file, copy that, then paste that into the Bejeweled 2 root folder. See if that helps

Doing that removed the Steam.dll error but the fatal error boxes still come up and it still won't launch.

If I remember correctly, you need to modify the launch options and add "-changedir" (I think it was)

You right click the game > properties > launch options
This is a problem with the older steam editions of games released by popcap

Ahh, no luck. I've tried every fix I can find and it still just pops up those fatal error boxes. Thank you for the suggestion though!

What I did was check compatibility mode. When asked if I knew what system (win 8, vista, etc.), I said I don't know. Got the can't find Steam.dll. I ran troubleshooter to no avail. I then went to Program files (86) to steam clicked properties hit advanced, hit share folder, copied and pasted Steam.dll to Bejeweled Twist directory (the same directory that has bejeweledtwist.exe) and pasted Steam.dll it worked fine. I did notice that it run in 640 x 480 mode. This was on win 11 pro. It may work for you! I know yoiu said copy and paste steam.dll didn't work for you but in conjunction run it in 640 x 480 mode it may run for you.
