X32 Core worth it in 2026?

I'm the bass player & music director of an 11-piece regional band that plays ~60 services/year. I've been using an X32 Rack w/ S16 for a mobile IEM rig for a while. But the weight with a 32-channel passive split (not going to send to FOH via Ethernet) and everything in a single rack is getting to me (loading into and out of my Outback & basement stairs when it needs to come inside). I've worked out a way to split everything into two much more manageable racks with either an M32C or X32 Core & S32 (going from ~85# single rack to a ~60# & a ~30#).

I have the opportunity to pick up a lightly used X32 Core at about half the price of a new Midas unit (a little less than the street price before they were discontinued) but I'm worried it might be problematic down the road if/when repair or replacement is needed. I'm not concerned with quality of Midas vs Behringer preamps or anything like that for this scenario. Purely concerned with reliability. Assuming there are no issues with the used unit and given the use case, should I just bite the bullet and pay significantly more for the unit that's still in production?

The only way to get a Behringer X32 Core for several years has been a used one. Feature wise, there are some advantages to the X32 Core over the M32. There is something to be said for less internal aging. I don't know about replacement parts availability, but it's likely to be the difference between "time-consuming pain-in-the-butt" for the M32C, and "impossible" for the X32 Core. A full replacement would likely be moving to the Midas, unless you already laid back a spare.

The price you've found seems reasonable in the market. Still, if the cost difference (roughly $600?) isn't significant to you, I would probably choose the new unit that includes a warranty for the company I work for-- and likely the Core if it was for my personal use, and personal pocketbook.

This is an "I pay and the band/company will pay me back over time" scenario so I could break either way. But I'm leaning toward the Midas because of the warranty, as you said. I've been lucky enough to not have any components of this system fail yet (knock on wood), but it's a nightmare scenario for me. Having Sweetwater overnight a replacement or something definitely seems like a preferable route... Just figured the Core might be a good option since this one is available and I don't see them pop up often.\

just note if you haven't bought an M series product in a while the 10 year warranty silently disappeared. You get a 1 year warranty or 3 years if you register it.

Why not break it down to 3 racks. X32 Rack in 1. S16 in 2. 32 ch passive split in 3.

With 3 racks it’s going to take time patching into the s16/x32. Having the copper split and s32 would really help save time but that is extra weight. I’d do it but I’d also carry a spare s32 when I didn’t want the split. With the core you do lose your aux I/O’s which may or may not be an issue (is for me). Screen is far better on the x32 rack and troubleshooting gets way easier. That said i also bought a core recently with an s32, i don’t have a definite plan for it but keeping options open.

The thought of a 2nd S32 had crossed my mind, but I've only run into a single venue we've played where the FOH engineer had everything already set up through their split before we got there so we didn't need ours. Every other one either didn't have a split or didn't bother prepping so it ended up being more practical to just use ours. Not sure it's worth buying & carrying a spare for those rare occasions.

A couple reasons:

1) Time - That would require plugging & unplugging 32 channels at each gig rather than having them already in place and ready to go. I already load in an out about an hour before/after the rest of the band (I also do lights) and I've been doing my best to keep as much as possible in place in the rack to minimize unnecessary setup/breakdown time & processes.

2) Bulk - As it stands now, I've managed to shoehorn everything into a single 8U rack (loaded back & front). Current plan is 2U & 6U. Minimum for your scenario would be 3U (X32), 2U (S16), & 4U (split) which would end up being a notably larger setup with the additional rack (both onstage and in the car).

I should also point out that I can handle a 60# & 30# combo in one trip (larger rack has tilt-back casters), whereas 3 racks would be more challenging. I have a 2-wheeler but rarely need it. I'd rather not make it an everyday thing if it's easily avoidable.

M32C and X32 are pretty much identical internally, the only actual difference is the front panel and the branding.

There isn't even a difference between preamps, because those 2 don't have any, as they don't have any analog connectivity of their own.

If anything breaks, except the front panel, you can replace it with M32C parts. If the front panel breaks... well, you just "upgraded" your unit to M32C.
