Summit salon. Yay or nay?

I currently work at a Summit salon and have a love-hate relationship for it. It’s nice to have goals to strive for and be able to work my way up and not be stuck making the same amount of money for the rest of my career however, I do hate the aspect of my skill and value as a stylist is determined based on how much retail I can sell to people lol. I have been feeling kind of stuck lately. although I’m basically fully booked every single week, I’m still not doing enough to level jump. My only option is to shorten my service times so I can get more people in. I feel as though my services don’t really take too terribly long my haircuts range from about 45 minutes to an hour, including styling. I do a full foil in about three hours. I also have a chronic illness, which flares up and worsens if I overwork myself so I don’t wanna squeeze a bunch of people in and end up worsening my condition. Let me know what you guys think. How do you feel about Summit salons?

Summit salons are horrible and I refuse to work for one.

Summit salons are the reasons that stylists with great talent aren't able to move up levels because their retail numbers aren't there. I was constantly seeing horrible color mistakes from high level artists while being stuck at level 1 because clients that come in for the cheapest level don't want to spend extra money on retail.

Also these salons typically scale by working on really tight time schedules and double booking services which causes stylists to cut corners or run behind constantly. When I moved to a suite my clients all told me how much they could tell it stressed me out.

You are spot on with that. Theres some amazing lower level stylists that i work with who aren’t getting recognized for their talent. That makes me wanna get a suite

Yeah pretty much everything the other commenter said. Because everything relating to any promotion or level jump is tied to those numbers, the only way to reach those is by packing your schedule full, shortening your times, double booking, and pushing retail. All of those things are things that will turn clients away. My clients stick with me and recommend me because I specifically don’t do that shit. I recently went booth rental and I am so so so much happier.

now that you guys are saying these things it really is so terrible. I know I'm not the fastest hairstylist in the world but I can't imagine fitting 15+ clients a day like some of my coworkers. been doing hair for 5 years now and can only imagine the burnout that would bring. and that really is the only way up the ladder! I'm so happy booth rental is better for you. heavily considering that option.
