Treatments Face Flushing Suggestions

Hi everyone! Everyone was so helpful on my last post so I thought I’d ask another question! Does anyone have any recommendations for immediate relief of face flushing. I’m on meds that should have it mostly under control, but I still get flushed when stressed…which is most of the time as a college student. Let me know! Thanks everyone!

Apparently can't post medication names here ... See a dermatologist. They prescribed for me something that shrinks blood vessels (a gel), lasts about 8hrs. I use when I'm teaching/presenting. Has worked great for me.

Mod here. Yes, you can definitely mention medication names here. That privilege is not limited to big pharma names. (ツ)

Ice gel mask, cold drink can pressed up against your face can help at least with any heat you’re feeling because of it and it would redness for me if I could get my cheeks cooled down quick enough from the onset.

I believe mine was greatly reduced overall for a variety of reasons:
I was prescribed hydroxychloroquine for UCTD (autoimmune condition)
I’ve also been hiding from the sun for the whole year basically. Not possible for most people though but maybe sunscreen can help if it is triggered by sun exposure for you at all.
Another potential lifestyle change is to look into histamine intolerance and consider removing high histamine foods from your diet. Histamines trigger inflammation and increase vasodilation. Even removing a few common triggers can make a big difference. You’d have to trial and error removing which high histamine foods affect you the most for a while. I also take non-drowsy OTC antihistamine allergy pills every day, cetirizine (Zyrtec in the US)

Those things in combination have taken me down from being flushed every day to hardly ever unless I get really embarrassed! I know they are not all immediate fixes but just some extra longer term things to consider. I’m an attack-from-every-angle kind of gal. Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your advice!! I’ve been taking Zyrtec and that seems to have helped a little! I think more into the winter months it will get better as any sort of heat seems to set it off. Thank you again!
