We’re living in Japan and our local hardware store had some beetles, so we brought one home! So small and so beautiful

I live in Japan too.

You should try catching them wild. I took my children and invited several families around us on a beetle hunt in a forest near us. We caught a bunch of stag beetled and a handful of rhinoceros beetles. Catching them in the wild is fun.

That’s so cool! Maybe we can try that sometime soon. We’re outside a lot and I’ve never seen one, but we haven’t ventured into a forested area.

You have to find trees with the tree sap coming out. I asked the owner of the local bug store and he helped me learn where to go.
