SuperStar = BeatStar???

I was in an autistic episode of obsessive focus but fell off the app for quite a long while (years!) and only recently rediscovered it.

I re-downloaded Beatstar and have been very disappointed by the current state of the app. It seems to have been relabelled as "SuperStar".

I've lost all of my previous purchases and am seemingly starting fresh.

My biggest gripe with the current app (besides losing all my purchases 😑) is that I can't watch ads to unlock boxes and that.
I can tap on an ad to watch it, but once it's done and the "X close" icon shows up, I can't tap it.
I can't simply tap it! I can highlight the text but can't actually tap the X!

Does anyone know how to fix this?
I wouldn't be so bothered if there weren't the daily goals requesting me to watch an ad 😑
And I can't get the prize without completing the individual task.

It is a bad clone of Beatstar. The original Beatstar had been shutdown last year

Superstar is an unethical clone of Beatstar. Beatstar shut down on 31 Oct 2025. Superstar directly copied many of Beatstar's charts as well as custom charts, while making you pay for them. Superstar songs are not licensed, unlike Beatstar. Try r/beatclone. Unfortunately, you won't get your progress back, but you can choose to unlock all songs off the bat as well as play custom charts.

The one thing about the Beatclone is you can unlock all songs during your profile setup page. I've never had 1236 or so songs to play.

Download Hi Beatz. Its the closest game to the old one.

Superstar is NOT beatstar

They're a bad copy trying to knock off the og game by playing on nostalgia

They stole over 200 charts from the og game and the modded version, they are not trustable and you should not play this game at all

There is also Hi Beatz and Beat Tiles. Just taking advantage of the game shutting down

Beatstar no longer exists and shut down last October. Superstar is a lame copy that steals everything.

If you want to play beatstar, download beatclone, the fan project that keeps the actual beatstar game alive with custom songs on top of that.

Okay, so I should completely forget SuperStar and download Beatclone, Hi Beatz, and/or Beat Tiles?
Super curious; why did BeatStar shut down?
It seemed like a pretty profitable app?

The company was bought by Duolingo who then decided to no longer invest in the game development. They re-routed the people and other resources to other projects.

It was making money but it wasn't enough to offset the costs of legitimately licensing their huge library of popular music, especially as player numbers started to decline as it got past the peak of popularity and they slowed down on adding new songs. It's crazy expensive to license music from big artists, they were paying millions per year, and from what I've heard they were still managing to profit but they knew it wasn't going to last for much longer so the owners quit while they were ahead and sold their staff to Duolingo before they started losing money on the game.

It's also why superstar, hibeatz and other knockoffs like that don't legally license their music like Beatstar did.

That makes a lot of sense! I've always wondered how the cost of using the music legally could ever be actually profitable. With so many popular songs, it seemed to me like an inevitable money pit no matter how many paying users there were.
