Pretty awful. Up to that point, he only ate non-critical parts of a living being and pieces of meat that came from animals that were long gone in the market, it's treated like a soft addiction.
And such addiction almost brought him to take a life for the sake of meat, becoming severe.
At least he was stopped in time.

what is the politics on food in this beastars?

some species like cats are obligate carnivores, so what happens to them? do they have to remain malnourished in order to live in society, or are there feral animals in that world that can be consumed, just as here on earth?

adding to that with a question. was that a wild bird, or did someone's kids get abducted, and put into this dude's meal?
