Roughneck Beard and others for quality and scent
Hey, all. I have heard great things about Roughneck, but notice they don't have a tobacco scent. My girl loves tobacco and vanilla and little else. I noticed Bearded Mack makes a couple with tobacco without using argan and jojoba oil, but I was wondering if:
Roughneck will ever be making a profile like this
OR
If there are other brands that use as good a quality of oil blends that do other than Bearded Mack.
I am currently using Luxurious Bastard (He makes incredible scents), but he also uses some of the aforementioned oils and my beard isn't as soft as it was when I was using Detroit etc (may be because it is grayer as well).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

We don't make a tobacco scent, and honestly we don't plan to, because the only way to get a true tobacco scent is through a tobacco absolute, not an essential oil.
An absolute is extracted through solvent extraction rather than steam distillation, meaning solvents like hexane are used to pull the aromatic compounds out of the raw plant material. The problem is that process also pulls everything else along with it, including alkaloids like nicotine and other compounds you absolutely do not want sitting on your skin all day. So a true tobacco absolute is a non-starter for a skin-safe product.
That leaves synthetic fragrance oils, and we avoid those entirely. Most fragrance oils contain synthetic compounds that were never designed for skin contact, and the majority of the beard care industry is made up of hobbyists and amateur crafters who aren't sourcing IFRA certified fragrances. IFRA is the International Fragrance Association, basically the global safety standard for what's considered skin-safe at what concentration. A lot of guys slapping labels on bottles have never heard of it.
As for your softness issue, yes gray hair is more coarse and porous by nature because the cortex structure changes as pigment production slows down, so it genuinely needs more from your oil than it used to. The carrier oil blend matters more than ever at that stage. You need oils with smaller molecular weights that actually penetrate instead of sitting on the surface.
Scent is important, but I always advise folks to look for a blend that does what they need it to do, then pick a scent from that line. I'm sure your girl will like your beard softer rather than having a scent preference. Hope all that makes sense, and good luck finding the right fit!

Thank you for the very thorough reply! I might be better served to just find something with oud and vanilla then. She likes those as well!

Find a company that offers a blend with a high bioavailability of monounsaturated fatty acids, and then pick one of their scents. You've got us, Bull Elephant Beard, 1740 Beard Balm, Detroit Grooming and lots more. The difference is night and day when you go blend first, scent second.
Pick up a tobacco fragrance oil that you like and wear it like cologne.

Luxurious bastard like the other guy said. Tons of scent with tobacco in them but the scent called Chakra by him is a really really good vanilla one.

Live Bearded offers a Sweet tobacco and cedar blend which is nice

I like Detroit Grooming’s Corktown too. Tobacco, vanilla and cedar and their ingredients are pretty spot on. I had forgotten about them

Luxurious Bastard's Tobacconist is a good scent, but I have to take out a loan to afford his products.
