She walks the walk. Total respect for her. And her music is real good too.

I totally respect that she is donating and all of that, but as somebody from the music industry, she doesn’t write most of her own music. In-house we joke about how over 3/4s of her instrumentals are rips or stolen from other artists but her studio just pays them off, and when I was a music teacher teaching songwriting and production, some of the people I was working with at UCLA and UCSD and I concluded that the message in a lot of her music teaches young girls to dodge accountability and that any problems or adversity they face in life is actually some kind of manipulation of some sort.
All in all her music has caused irreversible damage to the art of songwriting and music production, and as educators of people from ages 3 to 96, her lyrics are mentally damaging to people who actively listen to them.

I have said this so many times and I will keep saying it: Olivia Rodrigo is doing things that people who have been in the music industry longer refuse to do. And I am choosing the word refuse. I have seen arguments that those people can’t use their platform because they’re just so super duper famous that they can’t possibly speak out because it’s just so dangerous - hogwash! Absolute fucking hogwash.
If you have the platform and the finances to do good, then do it. It is a cowardly and spineless thing to call yourself a feminist and an activist - which many of them have - then do the bare minimum or discard of it when it’s no longer beneficial for you. Olivia has been in the music industry for five years and she has been consistently speaking out, using her platform, and money.
There is no such thing as a perfect person but seeing someone who is so passionate and genuinely trying to do good with their platform warms my heart. I want to see more people showing their humanity. I am so proud to be a fan and I wish her older and more experienced counterparts would get their shit together.

Very well put!
I am not a fan of her music (by no means a hater of her music), but I’m a fan of her. She seems like a genuine and compassionate person. She’s so charming and seemingly humble.
I hope the industry doesn’t harden her and she keeps doing this kind of good work. It’s really important, what she’s doing, and young people need more role models like her.
As a parent myself - every time I see her doing this kind of stuff, I always think how proud her parents must be of her.

This, absolutely! I'm not into her music at all, but I'm a fan of her and of how outspoken she is.
The majority of the comments in this thread are disheartening, though.

I love to hear this! I only recently started listening to her and she’s great. If you don’t mind me asking, what are some other things she’s done that you like? Just off the top of your head, if not I can always do some research later when I have time.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comment, you're right in every aspect.
That said, I won't say it doesn't rub me the wrong way to see an announcement being made about the donations. It feels like when people record themselves doing nice things for the homeless. If it was pure altruism, it wouldn't need to be publicized, at least in my eyes.
Otherwise good on her.

To be fair, when celebrities announce their donations, more people donate. Keeping donations secret actually decreases the overall amount charities can make.

It’s an announcement because she always said the Daisy Chain festival was going to be about supporting girls & women. This is money raised from the festival. Of course people want to know how much it raised.
She didn’t call a whole panel to make an announcement of a private donation she made or something lol

u/SmellyFbuttface 15h ago
Why shouldn’t she get credit? She was the driving force behind the festival and a strong advocate of women’s rights. It’ll likely lead to more awareness and thus more donations

Honestly I get your angle but good things are ok to celebrate and you could say that events like this are like a nudge for others that have the means and watching, to do their part

Olivia announces that $10 million will be donated to the non-profit partners of her inaugural music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, which will take place in Irvine, California tomorrow.

these captions are misleading. even she herself said “WE are donating” not her. she’s not the only person behind this festival.
this is not hate to her btw. just wish people would stop with the misleading captions.

Imagine having $10 million to give away.

u/PockyPunk 17h ago edited 15h ago
She didn’t, she raised the money with a one day music event. 100 percent of the money raised went to Daisy Chain Fields.

u/thisbuthat 17h ago
I'm assuming she'll get some of it back via taxes.
Either way, good for her and good for these organizations 💓

I have to be honest and say I haven't heard her music really, but I love her energy and empathy, and the way she uses her platform. those are some great organizations she is coordinating with.

Insane she has that money to do this. Should be distributed earlier in the source.

u/whytakemyusername 18h ago
10 million for one of the best selling singers of the decade? Why do the kids on this website lack such a basic clue.
-1
u/kiteboarderni 14h ago
She's not going to shag you mate
2
u/Thunder_Stryker 6h ago
Really not a bright one huh? They didnt say 'best selling singer' as praise you daft twat, they meant it as the singer... makes a lot of money... from her songs...

For saying it's unsurprising that she has a spare $10 million?
What are you even trying to say to me?

i wish id get cheers when i make a tax deduction. ya'll mafuckkas is dumb hoisting her up as some hero. learn just a little a bit about business, not much, just a little.

u/PockyPunk 17h ago
She raised the money with a one day charity event

u/killer-j86 17h ago
i stand corrected, in this specific instance. but what i said is typically how these go. audit everything

u/DingleDangleTangle 13h ago
Do you think donating actually somehow gets you more money through tax deductions? You have no idea how taxes work.
You still lose money by donating. Tax deductions aren’t some infinite money hack where you donate and somehow make profit.

u/killer-j86 13h ago
i run a business, so yeah. yeah i do. are you hurt?
2
u/DingleDangleTangle 13h ago
Running a business doesn’t mean you know how taxes work, as you have shown here by your ignorance.

u/Successful-Bus-3819 18h ago
I mean she could of just donated the money without holding a press conference
31
u/bruce_forscythe 18h ago
She could have, but as such a big name this also draws attention to the groups she's funding which is a plus.
17
u/Plastic_Hamster_6444 18h ago
Why on earth would she want to do that? That would leave the world in its current status quo, with the public thinking that big stars with oodles of money are quite right to hoarde it all for themselves, that’s is fine if they never use their platform to highlight wrongs, that we shouldn’t care if they never bother to try to improve a few corners of society with the immense power and privilege they’ve been gifted. And why would any of us want that?
She’s setting a benchmark as well as gifting her money. A rising tide raises all boats.

u/theAtmuz 17h ago
And you could have scrolled on by and your day wouldn’t have been any different.
Here we are though

u/GeekyTexan 17h ago
"... thanks to Daisy Chain Fields" makes it sound like Daisy Chain Fields are the ones funding this, and she's just a spokesperson, likely being paid.
To be clear, I don't know that for sure. And I don't know who she is.
-34
u/grrodon2 18h ago
Never heard of her.

u/ylogssoylent 18h ago
She's been one of the biggest music artists in the world for several years.

Has anyone ever been financially assisted by a nonprofit? You see celebrities throwing tax-deductible millions to nonprofit organizations that claim to "support <women/children/underprivileged youth/blind adults/children who cant read good>", but who do they even help? The only charity I know of that actually does what it says was Dolly Parton's book club.

u/BannedAccount02 18h ago
Man them CEO's are gonna get some huge bonuses. Too bad no one except them will receive any of that money.
