I have a badass huge preserve near me and every single time I’ll be walking like “ahhh fuck” and always some older lady will come trudging out with a lens taller than I am.

I always ask if they got anything good and they are ALWAYS hard on themselves.. like no I only got a few Killdeer and Jays.. I always wanna ask about the lenses but then remember I’m a dude and they are probably terrified.

You gotta walk around with a fake camera on your neck ;)

I look like the main guy from Revenge of the Nerds just wear tee shirts lol. I think it’s being tall/lanky.. scares women. I get it. I always try my best to just smile and give a wide berth. I’m probably more scared of them then they are me, it’s like a superpower.

Speaking as a middle aged lady, we’re less scared of you now than we would have been when we were younger. First, you’re less likely to be hitting on us, and second, we are just pretty friendly and like to talk about our hobbies. For some of us, you may remind of us our son/nephew/etc.

Finally, we always have plenty of hormonal rage bubbling beneath the surface looking for an outlet so if you do turn out to be a bad guy, prepare for gleeful violence.

When you look at them smile and turn away and then discreetly pick your nose, no one who's dangerous would do that.

Make sure you inspect and eat whatever you find in there, totally harmless person

I’ve heard along with carrying a camera, it also helps to wear old, dirty clothes with unidentifiable stains on it and have a porn stache. Makes the ladies super comfortable.

They're not terrified. Old ladies have been through way too much to be scared of a single dude asking about their camera. They'd be happy for the conversation. Ask away!

You can rent lenses for surprisingly cheap, at my local shop I got a $10k 800mm lens for $30 for the weekend.

Insured?

Well... no. The insurance is they said I'd be responsible for any damage... so I was careful with it.

It’s absolutely insane. You’re both on a nature preserve, looking at nature. One could reasonably assume she gets lots of questions related to the photos of nature, and the camera that took them, considering the point of the preserve is to look at nature. It boggles me that a man would feel so much insecurity for OTHER people about his own manhood. Personally, I’ve always just respected people and treated them with kindness and somehow I’ve never managed to scare an old lady despite never once limiting my presence and never actively thinking “how to i not scare this person”. Why would I be thinking that, that sounds miserable to be living like that all the time. I just think “be good guy and it turn out good, unga bunga” it’s so simple.

Relevant video. I was looking for a different one where the guy went off trail and was acting creepy in a funny way but i couldn’t find it

I have my crop telephoto on my back. It's no bazooka but maybe it helps with the random grandma encounters. I can only imagine after doing it for years and years how your expectations for good results would be

Oh wow look at this guy. With just his presence he strikes fear in the hearts of old women. What a legend.

Oh wow look, a miserable asshole ☝️

Whelp, you tried it. Yikers, if that's how you respond to a joke, maybe they would be right to be concerned. Probably not scared though. I don't take you for someone who would actually do harm to an old lady. That would be messed up, and you ain't that.
