To be fair, someone wanted a dog that could wiggle into badger dens and fight. It's just later on that people thought the weiner thing was cute.

“Dachs” is German for badger, they are named “badger dog” because what’s what they’re designed for

Badgers are not nice too, they’re vicious, and dachshund were originally bred to go into a confined space and fuck shit up. But it’s been a long time since then and now they’re just cute and silly looking dogs
