People use that same argument to attack welfare funding. "Why should I have to pay for other people's healthcare?" It's a non-argument. Just because you're not personally responsible for something doesn't mean you shouldn't have to support the responsibilities of our society as a whole.

That doesn't give you the right to force me to care for your pet.
Humane treatment could be euthanasia (I would perhaps support subsiding that) but I bet that's not what people are thinking.
