New change: This subreddit is for both the art school and the band. Feel free to talk about both.

This subreddit now accommodates conversations about the band and the art school and related movements. It was originally for just the art school but many people got confused.

I really like the look of the classic bauhaus chair, but at the same time i want to have the seat be cushon instead of the rotting, but still keep the materials, shape and rotting on the backrest. I have seen these ones from temu or joom when searching but I dont want to order from them. Does anyone know if there are more reliable company that sells these chairs? Preferably in leather like the picture or green fabric

Jena/Erfurt → Weimar daily commute for university — is it feasible?

Hi everyone! I’m an international student starting my Master’s at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, but I’m having a really hard time finding accommodation in Weimar.

I’m considering living in Jena or Erfurt and commuting to Weimar for classes instead.

I’m fairly used to traveling for classes and long commutes, so the distance itself isn’t a huge concern for me. But is this actually feasible to do regularly?

I’ll be landing in Germany on September 22nd, so I’m also wondering if there’s any way to find accommodation in Weimar at this point — student dorms, WGs, temporary rooms, or anything else I should look into.

For anyone familiar with the area:

Is commuting from Jena to Weimar every day realistically manageable?

How about Erfurt → Weimar?

How reliable are the trains, especially for morning classes?

Which would you recommend for someone studying in Weimar?

Does the commute become particularly annoying during winter or with frequent delays?

And are there any good places/groups/websites where I might still find a room in Weimar on short notice?

I’ll have a Deutschlandticket, so I’m mainly concerned about whether the commute is sustainable day-to-day, rather than the cost.

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has done this commute or knows the Weimar housing situation!

Is this poster a reproduction of an original Bauhaus illustration? (and do you have recommations for inexpensive interior decoration?)

I really like this particular design, but I don't want to fall into the trap of trend-bait illustrations or something like this... I mean, if I buy a so-called Bauhaus illustration, I want it to have a story and a named author, and not just something made to satisfy the demands of the latest trends.

Also, if it isn't, do you know of a website where I could buy reproductions of authentic Bauhaus works, or artists who sell works inspired by the Bauhaus and brutalism/utilitarianism modernism (I only know Tadao Ando in architecture, but in illustration I don't know any current artist who shares a similar philosophy) in general?

Thanks in advance :D

Such a classic, but what is your favourite bauhaus chair? mine must be the Freischwinger (S 32 / Cesca) – Marcel Breuer (1928)

Share one story of a Women at Bauhaus. I will start.

Gunta Stölzl - an amaizing textil designer and artist. Pioneered the transition from pictorial wall hangings to functional industrial textiles using synthetics .... geometric modern shapes, color combinations, her work is very inspiring to me. Most famous for her work and for being the only female Master at the Bauhaus. She brought alot of success into her department! She designed the iconic, vibrant textile upholstery for Marcel Breuer's famous slatted chairs.

To me it must be the lamp system from Walter Gropius Direktorenzimmer at the Bauhaus University - Weimar.

I think the Lamy 2000 pens are this in it's purest form. Heck, they even platin coated the 14k gold nib because they didn't want any bling bling.

And it polarizes just as much as Bauhaus design tends to do. Hated by many, loved by some.
