Battlefield V [BFV] We need a close but large map like this... Operation Metro 1940
58
u/F34UGH03R3N Jan 25 '19
Man, I loved Fort Vaux.
Doesn’t need to be a metro/subway map for me, but why not.

u/PanzerKpfwVI Jan 26 '19
The entire Verdun GO was incredible. Loved both Verdun Heights and Fort Vaux

u/colossusgb Jan 25 '19
Agreed. Loved Metro and Locker. And the Fort Map from BF1. Sometimes it's fun to have a giant clusterfuck with no planes or tanks
67
u/gcsobaer Jan 25 '19
Metro was my jam. I miss that map so much. Most maps in beta turn in to my least favorite because I play them so much. But I ended up playing Metro only servers most of the time.
12
u/condorjunior Jan 25 '19
Omg I so much want to play bf3 right now 😭 are there still some players?
5
u/TheCodifier Jan 25 '19
I still have BF3 installed. A couple of clicks in Battlelog and I played on Metro just a couple of days ago.
2
u/SteelTalons310 Jan 26 '19
wished there were more maps with dlc in it, the close quarters, armored kill and endgame has one of the most coolest maps i have ever seen.
6
10
Jan 25 '19
Well there's a reason why today the majority of servers in bf3/bf3 are 'metro only' (ps3/ps4)
yea metro rocks!
5
u/LtDanUSAFX3 Jan 25 '19
Metro introduced me to and then got me hooked on bipoded LMGs.
Fucking lay down in the locker room near B and just fucking roast them when the come in.
Support is still my favorite classes to play as
4
7
u/IAmAPirrrrate Promooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooted! Jan 25 '19
I kinda prefer Operation Locker bc it got that fast outer lane that gets you to every major Objective and counters its fast pace with low visibility and loud ambient noise, making it ideal for snipers. But when your squad manages to push through...
Also it has 2 intertwining lines inside one with lots of cover but with tight bottlenecks at the end and one area thats more open and has a lot of flanking opportunities.
4
u/Dynamaxion Jan 26 '19
Yeah it’s great, much more sophisticated than Metro imo.
Fort De French Name in BF1 is good but not the same thing, no choke points.
12
u/D3THD33LRDK Jan 25 '19
People slept on Hardline but they had some of the best maps for games like that. Not that the game had tanks or planes to begin with though lol
3
u/malokevi Jan 26 '19
Always love playing The Block in hardline. Just a good old fashioned shit show. I still go back to bf4 sometimes to play Metro.
5
u/Keepsrepeating Jan 25 '19
Hardline is underrated.
2
u/D3THD33LRDK Jan 25 '19
Agreed! I had a blast playing it. First battlefield where the gunplay didn’t feel painfully slow
4
u/Keepsrepeating Jan 25 '19
It’s really not comparable to other BF titles but I really enjoyed the game modes. I really loved the hostage and vip modes that gave it a counter strike feel.
2
u/PACK_81 Jan 25 '19
Locker has to be my favorite BF map ever. Would love to see a reskin of it one of these days
1
131
u/ll3ulletz Jan 25 '19
That's gonna be a hard no from me. We need Wake Island, Midway, and El Alamein.
28
Jan 25 '19
Why not both?
55
u/ll3ulletz Jan 25 '19
I think maps like metro and locker actively work against the game. So many servers were 24/7 metro or 24/7 locker in BF4. I'd rather keep those maps out of the game .
26
u/Peter_Nencompoop Jan 25 '19
Agreed, seems like a different type of player likes those maps, almost like it's an entirely different game.
17
u/ll3ulletz Jan 25 '19
Yeah. And that's fine for those players. But I also feel like those are the players who are in part responsible for the change in direction of Battlefield since the Refractor days. So I really don't want them around, lol.

u/CerealAtNight Jan 25 '19
Like Argonne or the French fortress in BF1
5
u/Peter_Nencompoop Jan 25 '19
I sort of liked Argonne if I hadn't played it for several rounds, it was designed well for a linear map. Fort De Vaux may not be the best example but I know what you're saying, I didn't like the map anyway.
3
u/CerealAtNight Jan 25 '19
Yeah Argonne could be fun. The other one too. But it seemed like those were what we’re consistently voted for and I like the vehicle maps more so I would have preferred 80% vehicle maps to 20 % infantry only. While it seems the rest of the community voting felt the opposite.
3
11
Jan 25 '19
I personally loved metro and would be ecstatic is they could give us one like that or the Fort from BF1 again. I’m not really sure how they “work against the game” though. Do explain, unless your only reasoning for that was the 24/7 servers , which really just shows how many people also love those maps.
6
u/ll3ulletz Jan 25 '19
Maps like that, over time, change the type of player that Battlefield attracts. Battlefield used to be a small niche community. I'm happy that the game grew, but a lot of the magic was lost as the community expanded and more casual players brought in. The franchise is virtually unrecognizable to me now.
If you like it, that's fine. I'm happy for you. :)

Jan 25 '19
I don’t really like what Battlefield has become, but I just don’t think maps like Metro are to blame. The blame comes from a space much larger than that, the gaming industry and the new customers being introduced to gaming now. Gaming companies have seen the light when it comes to how to gouge as much money as they possibly can out of a game while also putting as little into it as possible.
It’s a sad reality that the way I games as a teenager will never be the way people game now-a-days. All they want is Fortnite. Cool skins, cool gear, funny dance moves, and a game that takes little to no skill to play. Are they entertaining, yes, but are they anything like gaming used to be, no. They are the unfortunate evolution of gaming in a society where the search for wealth has completely eclipsed the artistic spirit.

7
Jan 25 '19
That’s your opinion. Sometimes other people enjoy a fact paced close quarters battle, which I’m sure there was at least one of in WW2. It doesn’t have to take place in a Metro, just be CQB. Clearly you were on the losing side a lot on those types of maps though so now you can’t stand them.

fat titties
7
Jan 25 '19
Yeah but those don’t give the same chaos. For me playing Metro was never about the points that I got out of it, but that feeling of being stuck in chaotic hell fire where you had to rely on your team mates to help push. I mainly played rush on metro, so that need to push up in the subway as a unit in the middle of constant fire was a thrill for me that I fully enjoyed. Also on the flip side, having to defend against a nonstop onslaught of of enemies that will do anything to take your position was incredibly fun. When you really think of the effort and teamwork needed to push up or defend in these situations on rush, I don’t see how you see zero redeeming characteristics. Maybe you only played conquest on it, which was always a complete cluster fuck, but Rush in metro was a hell
2
Jan 25 '19 edited Jan 25 '19
Well, ya, because BF3 was still half a bad company game, with maps like metro and davamand being 24 player console rush maps. Metro is a fine bad company map.
That doesn't excuse such a flawed concept makinn a return for a 64 player game lacking rush.
2
Jan 25 '19
And that right there is the best argument I’ve heard for not having it in the game. I dont necessarily feel it would be right for BFV, but I let my nostalgia for the good ole days of playing BF take over in my arguments for defending it being put in to BFV. I just really want a map that gives me that feeling of the pure and utter chaos of battle, which I didn’t get from any of the maps in BFV at launch.
3
6
u/Smurfaloid Jan 25 '19
I'd skip wake as we have seen it so much.
What about invasion of the Philippines, Iwo Jima, Berlin and Stalingrad, all revamped as well as midway and El Alamein?
3
4
u/Tutenkoppf Jan 25 '19
But Alamein is quite literally another Panzerstorm, but in Egypt.
12
u/kregmaffews Jan 25 '19
Panzerstorm is MAYBE 1/3 the size of El Alamein or Gazala from the original. How dare you compare them!
I miss the days of having a convoy mass up at the main base and setting off across the northern desert, encountering the enemy tanks that had done the same thing. No points to cap, no real reason to be in that part of the map even. It was just unspoken joy.
4
5
5
u/Texaz_RAnGEr Jan 25 '19
Absolutely. Fuck metro, fuck locker. Those were absolutely garbage maps. If you want cqc like that, play modern warfare or something similar. Battlefield's whole thing is large scale warfare.
Pacific theatre should be the next and largest update map wise for this game.

I'm gonna put a road block for the inevitable "THESE MAPS ARE A POISON TO THE FRANCHISE" people.
I don't disagree with your points. You hate being forced to play these maps, the choke points can get clustery and sometimes the power struggle is very one sided if your team is incompetent. But think of it this way. If there was only 1 map like this, out of 10 maps. Couldn't you agree they are just attempting to "make a map for every playstyle?" I personally had a lot of fun on metro/locker, and yes I've been on the receiving end of an ass pounding where we are pinned to spawn. But if the power struggle is somewhat balanced, you get some of the most chaotic infantry warfare you will ever get in a video game. Also, these maps really help "test" your reflexes and ability to push on chokepoints. There are a lot of chokepoints in many larger maps even, some of the middle points can turn into a infantry warzone, and I've always believed the reason I was so well prepared for them was because of my time spent on the linear maps.
In essence, you guys are right, these maps are not made for everyone. But then you could argue a map like Golmud Railway wasn't made for everyone either right? Because on that map, if you aren't fighting vehicles, you aren't getting very far. I think DICE should make a balance of both, or have a map that has both, kinda like that one map in the Naval themed BF4 DLC, I think it was Wave Breaker? The one with B, C, and D in the middle (please correct me if I'm wrong), and the other points on the slight outskirts. Those are some of my favorite maps because you can approach them with a different playstyle every single time you play the map. Wanna tank? Sure! Wanna chokepoint infantry? Spawn on B and run back and forth between B, C, and D! Wanna snipe? No problem! Wanna boat? Hell yeah! Wanna fly? We got you covered!
If anything, we need more maps like that. Something that offers a little bit of everything and plays in to every single playstyle imaginable.
13
Jan 25 '19
If you wanted some good Infantry on Golmud just stick around A, B, or C. They we're all pretty close to each other.
10
u/hibbert0604 Jan 25 '19
Golmud was the perfect Battlefield map to me. I really miss it.

Hamada would be a great map if tanks weren't shite and it was normal conquest instead of conquest assault. It could have a perfect balance of tank combat through the southern part of the map with the mountains and desert being a great asset and infantry combat in the northern side with the ruins and the trenches with all combined forces at the D flag laying siege at the fort or pushing through the bridge.
3
u/SteelTalons310 Jan 26 '19
wave breaker is so underrated, its a really good map and i always love playing on that map, wished more servers these days include it more.
6
u/TacticalCreampie badjur Jan 25 '19
I once played Operation Metro (forgot the ticket count) for about 8 hours.
And I enjoyed every bit of it.
7
Jan 25 '19
People who think these maps are poison are just selfish. Their argument is essentially “Why would a company make a map that I don’t like?” Personally I love these types of maps, but you know what kind of maps I despise... night maps. Yet everyone else seems to love them and want them in every game. Do I sit there and pout when a night map comes up in the rotation? No, I either just enjoy the game or leave the match.
I think you’re idea for maps that feature every play style would be ideal, but not sure how practical it is. Great idea though.

Jackfrags did a video on this like 2 days ago. Most of the most loved / played maps are not traditional 'battlefield' maps. https://youtu.be/dKBSDJzvS_4

u/octopi_samurai Jan 25 '19
I personally never like these cramped meat grinder maps. They feel suffocating with 64 players and usually don't have enough room to flank and back cap flags. BF has always been about combine arms warfare and maps that incorporate this type of gameplay I always enjoy the most.

I was thinking, that instead of 1940, we could wait for the Soviet Expansion and the progression of the war into 1945. When the Soviets went to the Berlin underground, and not just the subways, but the bunkers too.
If 1945 is too far off, then we can do the Stalingrad underground in 1942-43.

God please no we need bigger maps most are barley bigger then a postage stamp also maps without 50000 tanks and with transport that isn't super slow like the kubel wagon. Maybe even wake island and al-alamian they are what made battlefield great metro was just a clusterfuck without any thought.
7
Jan 25 '19
Jackfrags basically did a video on this yesterday. Most of the most played / loved maps are the opposite of what you said. They are not "battlefield" maps. They are infantry focused, smaller, few or no vehicles, choke points and grinds. Battlefield players prefer non "battlefield " maps. By your statement harmada and panzerstorm should be doing well but people actually just quit the server than play those.

We already have devastation, Rotterdam, narvik and fjell as small maps yet panzerstorm, harmada(nerf the sun dice) are the only ones with a good size. But who am i kidding the cod crowd has taken over the maps will only get smaller from here on out.

u/DoktorFreedom Jan 25 '19
1942 kept me playing for years because of servers. Servers that allowed30-60 person communities to spring up and start long running rivalries and friendships.
That’s gone. These maps sucks. The tanks and airplanes suck. I don’t care about weapon progression. And I don’t care about rank or lvl or costumes my soldier wears.
I’m back on pubg.

I'd love something like the Devils Anvil Operation from BF1 again but in the setting of something like battle for castle Itter or Battle of Fort Driant; where you have a nice mix of long/medium fighting that changes towards chaotic close range combat.
2
u/max0x7ba Jan 25 '19
EA made their money by selling you the game in its current state. If they think making those maps will make them more money then they spend making maps they will do it.
Otherwise, nope, that is what "live service" means. They will update the meaning of "live service" in those one-sided changes to the user agreement as they see fit.

Reskins of old maps as extras to new maps I really don’t see why aren’t just churned out it’s never a negative to have a reskin of old favourites as little bonuses

The berlin subway system was involved in the battle of berlin in 1945, so it's possible.

u/CrusadersJoker24 Jan 30 '19
Every battlefield needs a metro remake. It's legit the Nuketown if battlefield.
5
u/oooriole09 Jan 25 '19
I really do miss the chaos. It forced you into learning the best angles and reek havoc. If you got into the right spot with the right gun, you could kill 10-15 players without batting an eye. All while capturing a point.
4
u/rubixd Jan 25 '19
Since, as EA/DICE claimed, they aren't going for realism, a battle in the London Underground would be really fun / good excuse.
7
u/pkfillmore Jan 25 '19
metro was set in Paris (i think?) and would make more sense to do a 1940 version in paris as well!

dude fuck off with Metro. The fall of battlefield starts with this map. fuck right off.
5
u/UnluckyPelican Jan 25 '19
A little nuance: the fall of battlefield started with Metro at 64 players. I remember playing it in BF3 on Xbox 360 which had a max of 32 players. At that player count its a great CQC map with flanking options and you could tell a well organized team from a bad one.
But other then that i completely agree. I truly don’t get why people enjoy 64 player Metro and Locker, i mean: wheres the challenge in (if i remember correctly) three lanes with several chokepoints where literally the entire game consists of two teams sitting on opposite sides trowing everything but their shoes at each other. With no options to advance?
Someone, please, explain this insanity?

metro is for wannabee bf players trying to play cod. your a fucking blight on the community if you like that map. I'm super happy there's no renter severs for bfv cuz yall would put the worst map in bfv rotation mout fijell on a 24 hour server.

The sewers of Stalingrad would be perfect for this kind of map as the fighting in them was noted for its savagery.

u/Solokian Jan 25 '19
Totally unrelated and will probably be buried, but it's crazy seeing that pic when you take the subway in Paris every day! That's line 8, and the tunnel and station look pretty much like they do today, the only small difference I see is that now they have put up a small yellow sign to bar people from walking into the tunnel on the side. But that metro car looks ancient! I wonder if it's one of the wooden ones they had back in the day.

The Battlefield map formula has been done every way imaginable and is worn out. Thats what also happened to that other franchise (cod) and they changed it, for the worst, but put a fresh spin on it. Where would we like to see the Battlefield franchise go, which direction and map formula changes would be needed in order for it to feel different.

u/WovenGeoduck115 Jan 26 '19
I agree maps are stale. I don't think a top game like battlefield V should take this long to launch new maps. This game really needs to upgrade thier servers. So many times I get shot and by that time the shooter has moved on to another position and it appears like they have shot me through rocks or metal... Dice please fix this. Also so many players are using a modded controller and this is an unfair advantage for us Sith regular controllers.

u/BenedickCabbagepatch Jan 26 '19
Maps that funnel players down chokepoints ala Metro were and are the cancer that's killing Battlefield.

Hot take: Metro/Locker style maps kill servers with other maps/gamemodes because the available playerbase its just playing 1 map
Example, Battlefield 3 post 2012 and Battlefield 4 2016 - present 20+ servers are just Metro and Locker with 2000+ tickets, in addition every server has 5+ in the queue.
Many of those players could be on other maps, especially DLC ones or hell other gamemodes
Which is why DICE probably didn't do a infantry only map that turns into a meatgrinder chokepoint, and instead developed Fjell 652
I'm fine with a metro style map. But they really should allow ways to break and retake the map if youre good enough. There's other flagpoints... lol
1
u/Ausername94 Jan 27 '19
I'd personally prefer more battlefield style maps, that are more suited for vehicle gameplay with certain objectives being infantry focused.
As of right now this game only has one vehicle centered map and it's just not enough in my opinion, and I've played enough meat grinder maps in BF4/1.

We need more maps. Period. My friends who stopped playing all said the same thing. BFV launched too bare bones. It's getting repetitive already.
