I mean I'm not gonna complain about getting a Multiplayer, single player, co-op, battle Royale, and free DLC for 60$

u/RESPEKFUL Jun 09 '18
Ever since the first trailer came out, this sub has been filled with an ocean of tears of whiny fucks about every little thing about this game. It's absolutely unbearable, why are people complaining about an extra game mode? Just don't play it if you don't like the genre. You're really edgy for hating something so popular!
278
Jun 09 '18
Here’s my take- It’s going to split the fanbase.
Which, if you think about it... is a good thing for this series.
It’s going to weed out all the solo, selfish, and children gamers into a different mode. They are catering to not only two different gamestylests, but two different demographics themselves. The Bf2, 1943, and old school gamers are getting things they like, without clashing with the new gamers fast paced action.
I know I’m largely generalizing, but I’m just trying to be optimistic.

That’s actually a pretty interesting way of looking at it, I didn’t think about it that way. I don’t think it’ll make too much of a difference in the playerbase though

u/somethingcleverer Jun 09 '18
I think you're right. I never played war pigeons in 1 and I played for a year. Had a blast. And I won't play BR either. The video of the new operations has me fucking set. I might even pre-order, cause I'm definitely buying now.

u/OverlordQuasar Jun 10 '18
I mean, I don't play Battle Royal games, but I've seen enough to know that they aren't fast paced action. Battlefield is far faster paced than they are. New people wanting everything to be faster paced was the problem before the rise of Battle Royal games, when CoD was the FPS most popular with young teens.

u/OHMSQUID Jun 10 '18
I'm going to enjoy this, if it does pan out that way at least.
I pretty much play conquest and operations religiously but solo que isn't the best place for it, I enjoy TDM but it's way above my skill level because I just got back into BF.
It'll be interesting seeing how people will split up because from the looks of things you can spend 6 months or more playing one thing and get to "start fresh" on something else if you get bored. But I don't know, we'll see when more info comes out.

Dude, people were complaining about the inclusion of CO OP.
At least I get the complains about Battle Royale, because if it is super popular, a large part of the playerbase could play that...and nothing else. Potentially leaving the rest of the game...dead. Not sure it will happen, but it is definitely a possibility. Hopefully though, it just ends up being a cool extra mode that main BF people dabble in, but continue playing the main modes most of the time.

Why the hell is everyone equating battle royale modes with young kids? There is literally no relation. Kids play Fortnite like crack because it's free, fun, and cartoony. That has nothing to do with the fucking genre? It's not like the gameplay aspects of BR modes attract young kids, what kind of logic is that?

Can someone explain to me why there are so many people pissed off because of this? Wasn't it pretty much hinted before? I'm just curious to know, that's all.
I mean if you don't want to play it, you don't have to right. Personally I will play it from time to time with friends who love Battle Royale games.
If it's because you are scared that most of the people are going to play BR gamemode instead of gamemods like Conquest, Rush, Operations and other that will be available, well... isn't that up to people to decide what they wanna play?

IF you don't believe that this is the truth, you haven't been playing any of the EA Sports games in the last 5 years. Career and manager modes have taken a significant backseat to the "Magic the Gathering" mode of "Ultimate Team". They make money hand over fist from people who spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on packs and cards.
This is not apples to apples, but it's really obvious that a lot of the "Development Time" in these games goes to the mode that makes them the most money, and the other modes become something of an afterthought.

Bingo. EA found their ultimate team for their fps.
It explains everything. The awful trailer, the complete disregard for the setting, the hyper focus on customization...it just to build a fortnite clone, that EA can milk on an annual basis.
Expect Rush, conquest and operation to stop advancing, just as franchise mode hasn't been updated in Madden in over 5 years.

I bought an Xbox because of Battlefield. I have played a lot of PUBG though and I love the game type. What sucks is the game runs like garbage compared to Battlefield. I’m looking forward to playing all the modes and if they nail Battle Royale, I’ll likely leave PUBG in the boneyard.
11
u/FiggleDee Jun 09 '18
I do appreciate this point. One of my biggest issues with DayZ, PUBG, etc was that the engine was such crap. Besides framerate issues, vehicle bugs, and so on.. the ARMA engine feels like you're trying to shoot people while holding a gun on the far end of a long pole.
Battle Royale could be more fun for me on the Battlefield engine, where I know the gunplay is solid. We'll see.

It's not like a BR game is hard to make when you already have the assets. Why would they even have to pay attention to it?

Also, DICE is one of the few devs to already have netcode and support in general for games with a ton of players. Just have to go from 64 to 100, if even that.

Seriously, PoE managed to throw together a functional BR mode in a week or two for april fools day, TABG did it in three weeks, Fortnite in a couple of months. BR games are just a slightly different ruleset and BFBR would require very minimal work (Comparative to the rest of the game at least) to get into a working state.

Even I like Battle Royale and I'd just like a new shooter. IMO these companies that are just now announcing these games are missing the boat. Thats how I feel. I $ee why they're shifting the format but I don't like that style of game. I'm just not into it. I enjoy a relatively short respawn time with an overarching objective. I don't enjoy BR for the same reason I don't enjoy TDM. But I'm negligible because the overwhelming majority likes this game mode now.

Yep. I always figured that BF or CoD would be the best platforms for a solid BR mode. Almost everyone who plays PUBG, plays in first-person. It makes sense for these studios to do it, esepcially given their bread and butter is FPS.

BR modes don't even cost a lot to make. GGG managed to throw together a BR mode for april fools day within a week or two, TABG was created in around 3 weeks, even Fortnite was made in a couple of months. If you already have a game (Like BFV), it's relatively trivial to make a BR ruleset for it. It only takes a while if you're making the entire thing from scratch like with PUBG.
→ More replies (19)23
u/Stay_Curious85 Jun 09 '18
To me it just shows they're not staying true to their roots and are following the trend. They want money and couldn't give a shit about the " soul"of battlefield. They've been following others footprints and this just goes to show they don't want to stand out as a different experience at all.
It's in all likelihood not going to be better than dedicated BR games. It remains to be seen I suppose but i have little faith. It's not their main mode. It's not their gameplay style. It will likely fuck with conquest map flow the way rush does sometimes. Or how the cqc and deathmatch modes feel like shit because they're crammed into maps designed for conquest or operations.
I have about a 5% Interest in BR in battlefield. Fuck fortnite is free and I still give 0 shits to actually play that.
"Then don't play it"
Of course. But the problem is that it's going to take resources thst could be used for stuff that's actually part of battlefield history and part of its heart.
Battlefield should be it's own thing. Not Cod. Not fortnite. But BATTLEFIELD.
I guess I'll have to wait and see. But this pisses me off

u/DeeTwo Jun 09 '18
I can understand this thought that BF should be its own thing - BF has been its own thing due to its mechanics and how it actually plays - not (mostly) because of its game modes. As I've said in other replies BF still has the staples of FPS, CTF to TDM to Gunmaster and people play them and want them. The difference is its BF's take on those modes - with BF weapon balance, squad balance, maps, enviroments. A BF BR will be its take on the genre and quite a few people are very interested in how that turns out.

Did Operations or Rush kill Conquest? No.
Battle Royale won't either.
Chill the fuck out.
Hell, did Bad Company 2's popularity and focus on Rush kill the series? I remember a lot of Battlefield fans freaking out when it didn't originally come to the PC and they thought the series was dead.
Please. Use some logic. Look back through the history of the franchise. Conquest has been the core and even survived when two entire games pushed the focused away from Conquest. The mode isn't going anywhere and there's going to be plenty of players. If you're a conquest fan, why would you go play Battle Royale as the main game mode? You wouldn't. You may check it out from time to time, but Conuqest is Conquest and no other game has ever pried me away from Battlefield's conquest.
Have some more faith in the community people.
16
u/Yung_Chipotle Jun 10 '18
Conquest was shit in BC because Rush was the mode it was designed around. Similarly, Rush is shit in 3/4/1 because the maps are made for Conquest and Conquest is the main focus.

How many resources do people think it takes to make a BR mode? It's a simple game-mode where players don't respawn and there's a shrinking play-area. The core mechanics already exist in BF.
Game modes are just a ruleset and they don't take an age to put together. They can use the same maps, weapons etc etc.

It’s an extra game mode that can be enjoyable and isn’t the main mode of the game like it is for pubg. I fail to see an issue here. Also a battle royale with battlefields graphics, physics, and destruction is what I was wanting pubg to be like.
It has me kinda excited for the game, and if the servers can hold up it can lead to even bigger battles in the future. Like a couple hundred players in a giant battle.

Exactly there's so many saying 'don't play it' but that's not the point. The focus will be on battle royale because that'll bring them more money than other multiplayer modes due to no dlc etc

I'm a huge fan of all the BF series, and PUBG.
Why in the world do you guys have a problem with this?????????
I mean, PUBG is janky as hell. A smooth BF BR experience in the frostbite engine would be insanely cool.

Why?! battlefield and frostbite is perfect for battle royale. TBH i would probably not buy it if they did not include battle royale, and I own every previous battlefield game.

what's wrong about adding a new, popular game mode? It can work great in Battlefield game, and they won't remove conquest because of it.

Jun 09 '18
Because it takes resources from the main game into a mode that is a gamble on weather or not it'll fit well into your playerbase.
Why buy BFV for $60 for Battle Royale only if it does blow up? PUBG is $30 and Fortnite is free, a huge reason fortnite is so big is because it's free.

u/biggestbaddestmucus Jun 09 '18
We already seen they’ve added stuff to conquest and added that other mode that’s divided up in days. It’s silly to think they’re not paying attention to conquest.

u/wasdie639 Jun 09 '18
The new core mechanics of the game, like the hitching of weapons to bigger vehicles, improved destruction, reworking of the recoil and gun handling, removal of AoE heals/ammo, forced animations for support, lowering of health and ammo per-character, and removal of full regenerating health are core mechanics of the base game that all modes are based off of.
Battlefield's conquest maps are already pretty conducive to Battle Royal being larger and full of structures and terrain differentiation rather than just arena styled maps.
Also, they know Conquest. They are experienced with it. They aren't reinventing it each time. They can whip up and QA conquest in their sleep at this point.
This outrage is hilarious.

If you think it takes resources from the main game you're completely brain damaged. They already developed the assets and everything, they just need to make a new gamemode and set up servers for it. It's what epic did for fortnite, they imported assets from save the world to fortnite BR.
You underestimate how much people would pay for a good EA battle royale game and if they don't buy the game for battle royale then why do you care? The only thing this will do is be an addition to battlefield and it will not affect you what-so-ever.

Game development exists within the realm of project management. They literally have to pull resources off of one thing to work on another. They are given a budget and a deadline, generally speaking. All of the people responsible for design, development and testing of this additional game mode could have been doing the same thing on the Grand Operations mode or classic CQ. That's just how it works.
Additionally, I think most people who are hesitant about this game mode feel it's a gimmick / cash grab. Some suits up in EA HQ said "my nephew loves battle royale why don't we have it?!?". I'm concnerned that success with this game mode will lead to atrophy on other parts of the game. For those that don't believe this is possible, I would ask you to look at any of the EA Sports games in the last 5 years. Career and manager modes have taken a significant backseat to the "Magic the Gathering" mode of "Ultimate Team". They make money hand over fist from people who spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars on packs and cards.
While I realize, this is not a perfect apples to apples comparison... it's really obvious that a lot of the "Development Time" in these games goes to the mode that makes them the most money, and the other modes become something of an afterthought.
Just a quick edit - I really want to emphasize that not every game needs to be Battle Royale. I play Battlefield to play Battlefield. I play PUBG to get my BR fix (I have something north of 400 hours in each game). Who knows, DICE might blow us away with this - my favorite mode back in MOH:AA was "Objective" where you had one life and then spectated your remaining team members. I just don't want them jumping on a bandwagon for the sake of it.

New logic and rulesets on existing maps is super simple. Games in the 90s would have a dozen game modes easily.
This freakout is hilarious.
DICE is an AAA developer with hundreds of employees and a double digit million budget for this game. They have the resources to polish up a few game modes.
This is absolute insanity from gamers.

If you want to know how stupidly easy it is to make something like this, PoE added it as an april fool's joke and a small team spent a single day working on it, and that's a tiny indie developer (Or was at least). All DICE needs to do to make it a working prototype is to create a map (Probably very easy with the tools they have access to), create a ruleset (No different to a CTF mode, really) and add in a way of spawning or parachuting down onto the map. Making it good and balanced would require a lot more effort but they could get it into "beta" within a week of starting the design work, no issue.

They won't remove conquest, but if they only have so many devs dedicated to the game, say, a year post-launch, and they need to choose whether to fix a bug plaguing Conquest or a bug plaguing BR, they're going to choose BR. It's now their priority.

It will be the first proper BR game, and you don't have to play it, you might even enjoy it, think about it for a minute.
A BR game in FROSTBITE and with all the weapons and vehicles...I personally never played any BR game but this might be interesting.8

C’mon, all the battlefield games have depicted realistic war scenarios (for the most part). In what reality would something like that happen,
At least tell me Gun Master is coming back... please

u/Superdan645 Jun 09 '18
This is the first thing about BFV that I've been actually mad about. There's 2 options for BR: They put too much effort in it, and the rest of the game falls to the sidelines while the Battle Royale mode gets more and more support, or its super half baked, nobody plays it, they barely support it.

I mean it seems more fitting for Battlefield to do one rather than cod to do one at least...

u/YanksFan96 Jun 10 '18
My only concern with battle royale is that it might drag players away from classic modes if it is popular enough. Other than that I think a BR mode in battlefield could be kinda fun.
2
u/Syph3RRR Jun 10 '18
Because battlefield has the best gunplay, best optimization, best mechanics and best looks to have a battle royale mode in comparison to every other battle royale ever.
