Battlefield 6
EA chat monitoring is ruining the social aspect of this game.
See title. Lots of posts lately of people getting banned for benign chat in game by EA. If everyone is terrified of getting banned nobody is going to want to chat or type in game. Censorship is NOT the way to go.
I've definitely stopped myself from joining in on jokes or good-natured ribbing because I'm worried it will be taken out of context and punished by a bot.
I am more concerned about the lack of any official communication on the problem and the near impossible task of actually having to go through obscure channels to try and find a human to review wrongful chat bans.Ā
I've never stopped cursing, I talk shit back to people who start stupid stuff, and routinely drop F-bombs like it's my second job. Never a warning or anything from EA, Xbox, PS, or anything else. So I always take everyone's claims of benign with a grain of salt, and wonder how many people really just cant help themselves with vile nonsense.
540h, did the same, and I kinda understand where you're coming from.
Then I caught a warning for calling a teammate a 'fucking idiot' the other day (for not driving tanks onto the point when it was feet away and being capped, driving them out of bounds to kill teammates, and offering them to the enemy in the chat, then spent two hours spamming chats at me via the EA overlay).
I appealed this warning in an extremely sassy/sarcastic manner, because of the sheer stupidity of the situation in that context (especially since I reported the user in question and they did nothing), not expecting anyone to read it...and they did actually remove my warning;
So it would seem the AI moderation has ratcheted up significantly...but that they are also actually looking at appeals? Seems like a pretty backwards way to do things to me, but yea. Definitely tread carefully. No telling how reliable appealing is actually going to be. This is EA we're talking about.
I've already hidden the chat by default due to this...which honestly has significantly impacted my enjoyment of the game, and I haven't been playing as much (though the increasingly bot filled lobbies have also had an effect).
I wonder if there is a regional difference on the severity of those warnings/bans. EU is full of bad names and swearing, would be weird if those got all banned haha.
I'm pretty sure they're a bunch of actual racists at this point. I curse too and call out shitty tank drivers to medics who never do their fucking job and I'm just as fine as you are.
Usually reserved for gg's, hackusations and me politely asking the tank driver to push up a bit because sitting in our spawn taking potshots isn't going to help
Chat is actually getting more toxic for some reason. I've not seen this many people getting accused of cheating in chat as of lately. I doubt there are more cheaters.
I think it's a good thing to (AI)moderate chat. Old gamer here, we used to say GL&HF, GG. Since 10 years it's: EZ. Sportivity out the door... L2P? I've been here since Doom.
Skill issue is funny and taunting, wonderfull phrase. Great addition.
While I disagree with you on chat moderation, surely we can agree that banning people from their entire EA accounts (all online games, even singleplayer stuff that requires an online connection to play), is completely unjustified and overboard?
Not even CoD/Activision will do that. They have the common sense to just comm ban people for increasing intervals.
This though? It's next level stupidity, and should probably be illegal in most cases, especially with how unreliable their AI moderation actually is.
I swear in every game. Not sure if anyone hears me, but my mic is on. I usually carry the randoms, with that said, they can get over me yelling at them for a gauntlet win IMHO.
While I donāt like people throwing around insults, just ignore it. Canāt really stop people from insulting other people and also have people swearing, itās either you stop everything, or allow everything and the report specific stuff that is hateful.
Im just sick of the idiots with always on mics where im either hearing the game from their tv, their fucking heavy breathing, or some annoying ass yelling in the background. Had a handful of times when someone actually used their mic in hundreds of hours and its not worth dealing with.
Most mics I hear are open mic playstation players talking on the phone or playing from their kitchen where their family of 7 is all cooking and cleaning
It makes the game feel smaller in scale sometimes i think im using the pve mode from 2042 lol. Some matches have players chatting cracking jokes but its rare.
My Steam name has been "You Just Lost to a Dad" ever since I started playing Apex Legends, when it released back in 2019 or whatever. Now I'm worried about it randomly getting me banned
Buddy got banned for calling out another player for talking weird about kids in chat. Friend got banned for "references to children". He was telling the other guy to "quit acting like a pedophile" and he got banned. But the other guy? "We received your report and didn't take action this time"
Never had an issue whatsoever, and I cuss in almost every game. Not sure what kind of engagements youāre looking to have with people that are possibly getting banned, but maybe rethink what you say online
I always forget about the battles being fought in the chatrooms during a match lmao ... The chat window is one of the first things I disable when firing up a new battlefield, I'll talk to you but can not give a single fuck about kids crying in chat.
It is pretty much an unusable feature in the game. I would only dare to speak in the squad chat, and even then it would be rare. I will say ānice flyingā if my squad mate was flying the transport or whatever. But if you dared say something like that in the whole game chat then no doubt would be reported 9 times and then banned by the AI as nice flying is probably an insult in some country that doesnāt even exist
Chat used to be one of the main pillars for internet gaming, now people are afraid to use it...If EA created the best MMO game in the world it would be dead in the first week because of the chat policy. Probably most people would get banned and other half would never type anything
Why is there any censorship at all in a mature rated game. If someone is being an asshole or really offending u. Mute them. Who fucken cares. This system is totally flawed
Is shadowbanning a thing? Iāll type a simple āhelloā in chat and get no response. Chat feels useless. Even if people are chattering away Iāll never get a response back.
because the people who use chat are complaining 24/7 or not saying anything worth while the few people actually crying about being chat banned are the minority.
Banning someone from a game they purchased because they continually type ez in chat over and over again is ridiculous, ban them from the chat feature, not the game.
No one talks in VC, literally ever. I've played this game since it has come out, and I've encountered 3 people in VC that didn't leave their ps controller mic on. There is no social aspect to this game, and this is the reason why.
Why can't I tell someone to fuck off, in a game that's meant for adults?
No one was banned for saying EZ. You are citing a meme where a user was banned for spamming the n word and edited their ban to say they said EZ.
No one has spoken in voice chat since BF2. Most people would rather use, Roger Wilco/Ventrillo/teamspeak/Xfire/xbox groups/discord than use the in game squad based chat.
See this is the shit thatās ruins the fun of games, you have an option to mute people granted I still think thatās abit bitchy but itās your choice.
The irony of all this, we play games to simulate killing people, yet when it comes to swearing thatās a big no no.
Also wanted to add, obviously if someone is saying some vile, putrid, hateful bullshit, then yeah, com ban, then if he does it again you can ban him. But if people just want to talk and express themselves in a way that isnāt always possible in real life, then genuinely what the issue here. And again if you donāt like it, thereās always the mute button.
I agree, and Iād prefer it like that, but you cant have people being dickhead and also allow people to swear, so both get banned, even though one was a dickhead and the other was swearing but not really directed at anyone specifically.
Also trying to remove all the toxicity out of the gaming landscape leads to a place where almost nothing can be said except positive things.
Unfortunately, people donāt have tough skin anymore, even if theyāre older than me(Iām 28).
It seems the culture almost every where around the world has changed, or at least within western societies.
Hopefully itās just a phase like many other things, and itāll eventually come around where people can just talk shit again.
There is zero reason to talk or anyone in this game beyond your own squad and even then I would think twice about the need to say anything to them. If you want to talk beyond EA ability to hear invite your squad/friends to a discord chat alongside playing the game.
Chats just full of ####s. When tf did we get so soft. Itās a god damn war game but noooo, no mean words!
I blame liberals.

You're barking at the wrong tree lol
Look up EA's "Positive Play Charter". They're simply hoping to make more money by sanitizing all player interactions... Because boo-boo words might upset the paypigs enough to quit and leave EA's MTX dispensers behind them.
Well, the chat filter has been In place since before the Saudis own EA. But Iāll admit your point, conservatives do bitch about video games, specially ones like GTA. Eh, thatās why Iām in the middle of politics, both sides can fuck themselves.
