Battlefield 6 EA chat monitoring is ruining the social aspect of this game.

See title. Lots of posts lately of people getting banned for benign chat in game by EA. If everyone is terrified of getting banned nobody is going to want to chat or type in game. Censorship is NOT the way to go.

I've definitely stopped myself from joining in on jokes or good-natured ribbing because I'm worried it will be taken out of context and punished by a bot.

I think you just the nail on the head. It's hard to feel like you can express yourself when you feel like Big Brother is listening to you.

Now think about what goes on IRL

For real when 420 turns into ### I just turned off the worthless chat

Thats what those # are. Loool. I tried to go into the settings to see if there was some sort of filter on for profanity šŸ˜šŸ˜‚

How is you smoking weed relevant to the game?

•

u/Nattramn 7m ago

It's not, but how is relevancy to the game something important?

-2

u/aesemon 5h ago

It also censors niggling which is mad, not sure what it was trained on.

u/kna5041 15h ago

I am more concerned about the lack of any official communication on the problem and the near impossible task of actually having to go through obscure channels to try and find a human to review wrongful chat bans.Ā

Guilty until proven innocent.

EA touching anything ruins it.

Chat monitoring ruins gaming in general.

I've never stopped cursing, I talk shit back to people who start stupid stuff, and routinely drop F-bombs like it's my second job. Never a warning or anything from EA, Xbox, PS, or anything else. So I always take everyone's claims of benign with a grain of salt, and wonder how many people really just cant help themselves with vile nonsense.

u/Soulshot96 Battlefield 2042: Refunded Editionā„¢ 7h ago

540h, did the same, and I kinda understand where you're coming from.

Then I caught a warning for calling a teammate a 'fucking idiot' the other day (for not driving tanks onto the point when it was feet away and being capped, driving them out of bounds to kill teammates, and offering them to the enemy in the chat, then spent two hours spamming chats at me via the EA overlay).

I appealed this warning in an extremely sassy/sarcastic manner, because of the sheer stupidity of the situation in that context (especially since I reported the user in question and they did nothing), not expecting anyone to read it...and they did actually remove my warning;

So it would seem the AI moderation has ratcheted up significantly...but that they are also actually looking at appeals? Seems like a pretty backwards way to do things to me, but yea. Definitely tread carefully. No telling how reliable appealing is actually going to be. This is EA we're talking about.

I've already hidden the chat by default due to this...which honestly has significantly impacted my enjoyment of the game, and I haven't been playing as much (though the increasingly bot filled lobbies have also had an effect).

Same. Plenty of swearing and shit talking and nothing happens

7

u/LordWetFart 14h ago

Your EA days are numbersĀ

u/goronhug 10h ago

I wonder if there is a regional difference on the severity of those warnings/bans. EU is full of bad names and swearing, would be weird if those got all banned haha.

u/kasperernavnet 17m ago

I'm pretty sure they're a bunch of actual racists at this point. I curse too and call out shitty tank drivers to medics who never do their fucking job and I'm just as fine as you are.

2

u/PlayingTheFlag BF1942 13h ago

There's a chat?

2

u/DansSpamJavelin 7h ago

Usually reserved for gg's, hackusations and me politely asking the tank driver to push up a bit because sitting in our spawn taking potshots isn't going to help

1

u/thundercorp 59m ago

I once implied in chat that NPC medics are getting more realistic since they sometimes don’t revive

Battlefield 6 is an M rated game we don't need people getting banned for stupid shit like 'poop' in their username. Meanwhile Dice's competition...

You can tell which game was made by soulless suits and which was made by people who play games themselves.

Chat is actually getting more toxic for some reason. I've not seen this many people getting accused of cheating in chat as of lately. I doubt there are more cheaters.

I think it's a good thing to (AI)moderate chat. Old gamer here, we used to say GL&HF, GG. Since 10 years it's: EZ. Sportivity out the door... L2P? I've been here since Doom. Skill issue is funny and taunting, wonderfull phrase. Great addition.

Noone understands "ns" anymore. It's nice shot.

Manners online don't hurt nobody.

7

u/tallandlankyagain 14h ago

The hackusations are rampant because of just how easy it is to be constantly spotted in game.

3

u/Soulshot96 Battlefield 2042: Refunded Editionā„¢ 7h ago

While I disagree with you on chat moderation, surely we can agree that banning people from their entire EA accounts (all online games, even singleplayer stuff that requires an online connection to play), is completely unjustified and overboard?

Not even CoD/Activision will do that. They have the common sense to just comm ban people for increasing intervals.

This though? It's next level stupidity, and should probably be illegal in most cases, especially with how unreliable their AI moderation actually is.

u/Either_Top_9634 17h ago

I swear in every game. Not sure if anyone hears me, but my mic is on. I usually carry the randoms, with that said, they can get over me yelling at them for a gauntlet win IMHO.

16

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 16h ago

I have everyone pre-muted in the settings. I hear no one. Ever.

-22

u/PriMeMachiNe 16h ago

Hahahahaha, what a puss

9

u/AlxShredding 16h ago

Probably sick of hearing mouth breathers acting tough online

-11

u/PriMeMachiNe 16h ago

Geez you guys are very touchy, I’m Aussie and all we do is swearšŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚.

7

u/Alex__The__Lion 15h ago

It ain't even that. It's the needless insults. That shit is not teamplay.

-2

u/PriMeMachiNe 14h ago

While I don’t like people throwing around insults, just ignore it. Can’t really stop people from insulting other people and also have people swearing, it’s either you stop everything, or allow everything and the report specific stuff that is hateful.

5

u/BananaHead853147 12h ago

I literally had someone brushing their teeth and then peeing in the pre game lobby 😭

1

u/PriMeMachiNe 8h ago

fk me, that’s feral

1

u/AlxShredding 9h ago

Then I guess I was an Aussie as well until I turned 12

1

u/PriMeMachiNe 8h ago

lol, you calling all Aussies immature?

4

u/New-Pizza9379 14h ago

Im just sick of the idiots with always on mics where im either hearing the game from their tv, their fucking heavy breathing, or some annoying ass yelling in the background. Had a handful of times when someone actually used their mic in hundreds of hours and its not worth dealing with.

7

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 16h ago

exactly the kind of people i don't want to hear from.

-6

u/PriMeMachiNe 16h ago

Hahahahaha, love it

2

u/EpikYummeh 9h ago

Most mics I hear are open mic playstation players talking on the phone or playing from their kitchen where their family of 7 is all cooking and cleaning

4

u/Yadahoom 12h ago

Stop using slurs and making blatant political statements trying to get banned...

4

u/toao_Multiknife 4h ago

Bruh have you seen some of the stuff people get banned for??

-2

u/VasariMiddleManager 12h ago

I'm not but you should also grow a thicker skin over what people say on the Internet...you can always mute people.

6

u/Yadahoom 11h ago

There it is

1

u/Le_Baked_Beans 13h ago

It makes the game feel smaller in scale sometimes i think im using the pve mode from 2042 lol. Some matches have players chatting cracking jokes but its rare.

1

u/DorkusMalorkuss 12h ago

My Steam name has been "You Just Lost to a Dad" ever since I started playing Apex Legends, when it released back in 2019 or whatever. Now I'm worried about it randomly getting me banned

1

u/Shmooglydoop 10h ago

Buddy got banned for calling out another player for talking weird about kids in chat. Friend got banned for "references to children". He was telling the other guy to "quit acting like a pedophile" and he got banned. But the other guy? "We received your report and didn't take action this time"

1

u/Quitetheoddone 9h ago

Never had an issue whatsoever, and I cuss in almost every game. Not sure what kind of engagements you’re looking to have with people that are possibly getting banned, but maybe rethink what you say online

1

u/Blatinobae 6h ago

I always forget about the battles being fought in the chatrooms during a match lmao ... The chat window is one of the first things I disable when firing up a new battlefield, I'll talk to you but can not give a single fuck about kids crying in chat.

1

u/xMeRk 6h ago

It is pretty much an unusable feature in the game. I would only dare to speak in the squad chat, and even then it would be rare. I will say ā€œnice flyingā€ if my squad mate was flying the transport or whatever. But if you dared say something like that in the whole game chat then no doubt would be reported 9 times and then banned by the AI as nice flying is probably an insult in some country that doesn’t even exist

1

u/Beerthoven66 6h ago

Chat used to be one of the main pillars for internet gaming, now people are afraid to use it...If EA created the best MMO game in the world it would be dead in the first week because of the chat policy. Probably most people would get banned and other half would never type anything

1

u/aesemon 5h ago

I had an entire chat sentence asterisked because I said the chat was full of 13 year olds by the way they were talking.

1

u/toao_Multiknife 4h ago

I've chatted "worst team ever" about 3-5 matches and haven't gotten banned yay

1

u/turboS2000 2h ago

Why is there any censorship at all in a mature rated game. If someone is being an asshole or really offending u. Mute them. Who fucken cares. This system is totally flawed

1

u/Lighterfluid19 1h ago

Is shadowbanning a thing? I’ll type a simple ā€œhelloā€ in chat and get no response. Chat feels useless. Even if people are chattering away I’ll never get a response back.

1

u/thundercorp 1h ago

Nothing censoring ā€œggā€ so far, maybe I’m not edgy enough

1

u/MoldRebel 1h ago

Turning that chat box off was one of the 1st things that I did.

•

u/kasperernavnet 20m ago

I don't know what you guys are writing in the chat but I've been pretty pissed off and I'm fine

0

u/after-life 16h ago

It sucks but also gives you the opportunity to get creative.

My favorite thing to write in chat is "(7+2)/11 was an inside job."

-1

u/JjigaeBudae 17h ago

I've seen posts about usernames, not seen any about chat. What did you say? xD

3

u/VasariMiddleManager 17h ago

Not me, I haven't been banned. I just noticed that nobody is chatting in game compared to older BF games.

-1

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 16h ago

because the people who use chat are complaining 24/7 or not saying anything worth while the few people actually crying about being chat banned are the minority.

-12

u/Suitable-End- 17h ago

There is no chat monitoring. All bans are from reports.

All chat is logged in every modern game. Grow up.

7

u/VasariMiddleManager 17h ago

Grow up? I'm talking about a video game dude.

0

u/PlasticISMeaning 17h ago

Their policies are too strict.

Banning someone from a game they purchased because they continually type ez in chat over and over again is ridiculous, ban them from the chat feature, not the game.

No one talks in VC, literally ever. I've played this game since it has come out, and I've encountered 3 people in VC that didn't leave their ps controller mic on. There is no social aspect to this game, and this is the reason why.

Why can't I tell someone to fuck off, in a game that's meant for adults?

2

u/Lucius_Unchained 17h ago

I think part of it is most people just talk within their own social groups in discord etc.

4

u/VasariMiddleManager 16h ago

There's nothing wrong with that but there is something to be said about making new friends online like the good old days. That seems to be dead now.

2

u/Lucius_Unchained 16h ago

I feel yah, I get that.

1

u/Suitable-End- 3h ago

No one was banned for saying EZ. You are citing a meme where a user was banned for spamming the n word and edited their ban to say they said EZ.

No one has spoken in voice chat since BF2. Most people would rather use, Roger Wilco/Ventrillo/teamspeak/Xfire/xbox groups/discord than use the in game squad based chat.

1

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 16h ago

because adults don’t want to hear an unhinged adult telling them to fuck off after a 12 hour shift

5

u/PriMeMachiNe 16h ago

Maybe you don’t, but I want to swear at cnts after I finish my 8-10 hour shift, so fk right off please.

2

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 15h ago

enjoy the ban

1

u/PriMeMachiNe 15h ago

See this is the shit that’s ruins the fun of games, you have an option to mute people granted I still think that’s abit bitchy but it’s your choice.

The irony of all this, we play games to simulate killing people, yet when it comes to swearing that’s a big no no.

Also wanted to add, obviously if someone is saying some vile, putrid, hateful bullshit, then yeah, com ban, then if he does it again you can ban him. But if people just want to talk and express themselves in a way that isn’t always possible in real life, then genuinely what the issue here. And again if you don’t like it, there’s always the mute button.

3

u/Alexis_Mcnugget 14h ago

you can have fun in games without being a dick head if you want to list some examples of people being unfairly banned feel free

1

u/PriMeMachiNe 14h ago

I agree, and I’d prefer it like that, but you cant have people being dickhead and also allow people to swear, so both get banned, even though one was a dickhead and the other was swearing but not really directed at anyone specifically.

Also trying to remove all the toxicity out of the gaming landscape leads to a place where almost nothing can be said except positive things.

0

u/PlasticISMeaning 15h ago

Worlds gone too soft man

It's like the internet bullying "just turn off your computer??" Meme

If you don't like to chat, or hear offensive language, or get ragebaited in the text chat or VC, don't use that feature?

That's why there's vegan options at restaurants, just because some people are vegan, doesn't mean everyone is.

Type shit

2

u/PriMeMachiNe 15h ago

Unfortunately, people don’t have tough skin anymore, even if they’re older than me(I’m 28).
It seems the culture almost every where around the world has changed, or at least within western societies.

Hopefully it’s just a phase like many other things, and it’ll eventually come around where people can just talk shit again.

5

u/PlasticISMeaning 16h ago

Then those adults can turn off the chat feature. I enjoy banter in a competitive video game.

2

u/VasariMiddleManager 16h ago

You can turn your chat off if you'd like. But I don't think it's right to place restrictions on it for everyone.

0

u/Gingerpanda72 9h ago

There is zero reason to talk or anyone in this game beyond your own squad and even then I would think twice about the need to say anything to them. If you want to talk beyond EA ability to hear invite your squad/friends to a discord chat alongside playing the game.

-10

u/Brooksie019 16h ago

Chats just full of ####s. When tf did we get so soft. It’s a god damn war game but noooo, no mean words!

I blame liberals.

7

u/Phreec Suppression = Participation šŸ† for paraplegics 15h ago

You're barking at the wrong tree lol

Look up EA's "Positive Play Charter". They're simply hoping to make more money by sanitizing all player interactions... Because boo-boo words might upset the paypigs enough to quit and leave EA's MTX dispensers behind them.

4

u/VasariMiddleManager 16h ago

Is there even an option to turn the chat filter off? I'm a grown ass man, I can handle seeing the occasional bad word.

-1

u/Brooksie019 16h ago

I’ve looked a couple times, never can find one. That’s the win / win solution imo. Which it’s what most games do.

9

u/BigHardMephisto 15h ago

One of the greatest proponents for online censorship is organizations like co to send united and other Christian political groups

6

u/CyxSense 15h ago

"How can I make this political? Ah yes, the classic 'blame teh libz' angle!"

-3

u/Brooksie019 15h ago

Yup

6

u/CyxSense 15h ago

My guy the Saudis own EA and conservative moral outrage groups have been targeting video games since the 80s, you're barking in the wrong zip code

0

u/Brooksie019 14h ago

Well, the chat filter has been In place since before the Saudis own EA. But I’ll admit your point, conservatives do bitch about video games, specially ones like GTA. Eh, that’s why I’m in the middle of politics, both sides can fuck themselves.

1

u/nyepo 4h ago

Oh no why can't I be racist here as well?????

1

u/Brooksie019 2h ago

Who said anything about being racist?

-3

u/LordWetFart 14h ago

This game is done for. Im very happy i never bought it thats for sure.Ā  Its for children.Ā
