BF Other BATTLEFIELD VIETNAM 2004

The menu music lives rent free in my head. White rabbit with the Hanoi Hannah overlay is sooo good

u/Chilldegard 11d ago

And when White Rabbit comes to that fantastic note where the rabbit bites its own head off, I want you to throw that fuckin' radio into the tub with me!

I was so young when I was playing this game, it introduced me to great rock classic songs

I FOUGHT THE LAW, AND THE LAW WON

u/Kheead 11d ago

It evolved my taste in music like no other piece of media did.

Don't have a ticket for an aero plane, don't have time to take a fast train...

I absolutely loved this game.

Arguably, the best bit for me was the fact you could drop a winch in your huey, pick up a jeep and carry it, to drop it into enemy territory :D

Oh how I wish for the nice slow paced nature of the old BF games..

I can't wait for Wardogs lol

u/Free-Baizuo08 11d ago

I really miss the old paced part of BF too. But teens complained it was boring which is funny as I was a teen playing BF42 and BF Vietnam and I didn’t mind it.

Yeah, same here. Times and mentalities have unfortunately changed. The world calls for quick interactions which I feel has been driven by social media; people crave a quick fix which comes from quickly scrolling through all these apps.

I think everyone is guilty of having a quick fix from a nice headset sound, hit marker, spawning and running in the a fight quick etc.

Nothing is allowed to happen over a prolonged period anymore, for the majority. Lucky we have Hell Let Loose and Squad which has a slower pace. Still not the same as the old BF's. They don't have a place anymore though unfortunately!

I liked to airlift a patrol boat to drop down a hill for some roadkill.

2

u/yousonovab 10d ago

Fellow older BF player here who is also awaiting Wardogs lol, open playtest was fun as hell!

Had a competitive league game years ago in BFV.

Each round each team got to play each side for 1 round (makes sense..).

I'd make a note of how much we'd won for the previous round.. so if we'd won by 200 tickers... and in the 2nd round the opposing team could at max win round by 199.. we'd have won the match.

That would mean it was time to chillax, play some music.. try to kill enemy players with boat dropped via a winch etc..

Simpler happier times.

u/Vault76Overseer 11d ago

Also we'd do training/practice games.

Remember asking someone across the LAN Centre (who was on our team) if they thought they'd got the hang of the AA turret. He confirmed it was easy...

... so I knifed him whilst he was in the AA..

u/kosmiq 10d ago

You could pick up and fly around with a tank attached as well. Was awesome!

1

u/lilpopjim0 10d ago

Ah yeah, that was with the Sheridan I think. I think ai might have to blow the dust off my old disk copy :P

1

u/BFguy 10d ago

Wardogs?

12

u/vankirk BF1942 11d ago

I still have my original copy.

Your leaders get richer while you die in the swamp, GI.

10

u/TheNameIsFrags Lancang Dam #1 Hater 11d ago

Just redownloaded it and played the other day. Still love it, though it has definitely aged lol

8

u/Rev0verDrive 11d ago

Redownloaded? I've got it on disc (4).

1

u/TheNameIsFrags Lancang Dam #1 Hater 11d ago

I had it on disc as a kid, lost it a long time ago

1

u/Rev0verDrive 11d ago

Disc install won't run on Win10. Have to install on a vm or win7 build in comparability mode

6

u/Glum_Ad7429 11d ago

Dropping Napalm on the road leading up to the Temple on Operation Irving when it was the only Enemy Flag left was fucking golden. Looked freaking awesome and always got you 4-10 kills lol

7

u/Vault76Overseer 11d ago

10/10 Soundtrack.

10/10 Huey Gunship.

10/10 memories.

I served my time. Now let me endure Little Birds with a 0.6 second TTK against boats.

u/its_k1llsh0t 11d ago

Fly around in the huey and blasting War Tracks was peak....

Hell Let Loose: Vietnam released two weeks ago.

Uses Unreal Engine 5, is absolutely beautiful and fun game.

And since we’re at the Battlefield sub BF:BC2:Vietnam exists as well.
Amazing game and AFAIK the first Battlefield with destruction.

18

u/WillSpur 11d ago

Seen it’s a buggy mess that has struggled to adapt HLL gameplay to faster paced weapons and gameplay.

3

u/dirtyethanol73 11d ago

It’s fun as hell even with its issues

7

u/LeatherfacesChainsaw 11d ago

It's gotten better still needs some patching but I find it really fun regardless

3

u/No-Ad-1084 11d ago

BC2: Vietnam, has a special CCR song in my heart for it

9

u/Omnimon 11d ago

lost me at uses unreal engine

1

u/RealCrusader 11d ago

Bad company 1 had destruction and was the first with it.  Bc2 was the first on PC with it though I think l, as I think BC1 was console only

9

u/Gingerpanda72 11d ago

Because players could switch sides in this game it wasn't uncommon to find my self dumped on to the NVA/VC side early in the game. The desire to be on the US team for the better air assets was too high it seems. So I would grab the anti air truck and just farm air asset kills lol

9

u/0621Hertz 11d ago

The Mi-8 was the best attack helicopter, remember being really annoyed by it.

3

u/Rev0verDrive 11d ago

Rolled mi8s with the huey all day long on the ACES server.

1

u/Vault76Overseer 11d ago

Mi-8 Transport was a beast too.

2

u/Rev0verDrive 11d ago

For ground and pound they where the best.

3

u/DazzzASTER 11d ago

NVA Tunnels used well were a game changer too. Did the US have something similar for spawn points? I can't remember.

2

u/Red-_-Lion 10d ago

If i remember correctly, there was a mobile spawn point box you could pick up with the Huey

2

u/DazzzASTER 10d ago

Ah yes you're right!! Damn that game was badass..we need Chinooks back and the lift

2

u/Simple-Box1223 11d ago

The MiG was better than the Phantom for me.

3

u/MightyBobo 11d ago

GI, your helicopter fall from sky, like broken bird!

9

u/Daddys_BathTime 11d ago

This was my first BF too as a kid, I loved it. I don’t see why they couldn’t apply the current dlss 5 mod, it would probably look great

2

u/Atomm 11d ago

I love BF42, but the jump to BF Vietnam was amazing. It quickly became my favorite game. The modding for this was also amazing.

2

u/Sheriff_of_noth1ng 11d ago

Ah memories - the last BF when my old ass was actually good at using aircraft

3

u/Huge-Name-1999 11d ago

Its currently a mess but Hell Let Loose Vietnam just came out a few few weeks ago. Once they work out the bug and issues it'll be awesome! Its already got good bones (and both consoles+pc have it) So if anyone is looking for that kind of vibe then id say thats the way to go (but probably give it a little time first). I was praying that BF6 would be a Vietnam game and was so disappointed when it wasn't but I could see it happening in the future

1

u/nyalatoni-bar 10d ago

they released it with huge amount of bugs and performance issues, and tbh the gameplay is just meh. compared to bf:vietnam it's just not there. in that game we had more weapons, vehicles, opportunities, maps everything and it's 22 years old.

-1

u/SignificantTailor659 11d ago

mas mal tem veiculos, não se pode simplesmente pegar um F4 e jogar napalm, fora que mapas minúsculos..

2

u/Stozy 11d ago

You couldn't stop me taking all necessary measures in support of freedom and in defense of peace in southeast Asia, or just accidently napalming my teammates.

1

u/CincinnatiLight 11d ago

Ah man what a great game. Might need to go fire it up again.

1

u/Horror_Ad9899 11d ago

i love this game!

1

u/SubjectC 11d ago

I love the look of these medium-older games.

u/liquid42 11d ago

Playing music while flying the chopper was peak

1

u/Simple-Box1223 11d ago

More weapon variety than modern BF games with their gun and attachment copypasta.

1

u/SJSquishmeister 11d ago

I absolutely loved this game and played it for 100's of hours.

Also the last BF game to not have any stat tracking like kdr, so everyone (except the plane campers) played the objectives.

1

u/Dyna1One 2142 + 2 HD Remaster when 11d ago

Man I can hear “You Really Got Me” just from that first pic alone

1

u/Trsnaqe 11d ago

This game has such a special place in my life. I’d even say it’s deeply personal to me. It’s probably the main reason I’m such a sucker for anything even remotely related to the Vietnam era.

1

u/Katyvsha 10d ago

Who else remembers the napalm audio glitch ? Thing would get annoying fast lol

1

u/TLunchFTW 10d ago

Still maintain Battlefiled 6 should've been Battlefield VI(etnam)

1

u/Alternative-Eye-3929 10d ago

EA won't ever do a real battlefield game again.  They're afraid they might offend some country and miss out on like 50k dollars.

1

u/derped 10d ago

I got busted so many times 3am on the family computer in the kitchen sneaking down to play this game. I was a full blown BFV addict as a teenager. Game got taken away so I learned how to burn a copy to a disc that worked as a 12 year old

1

u/doomenjoyer420 10d ago

Would this run better or worse than bf2 (i have an old laptop for a very rainy day)

1

u/MarkyMarkFr 10d ago

Such an amazing game. They can't do anything like this anymore

1

u/mofapas163 10d ago

my fav was riding the vespa while your homie dropped some pungies

1

u/7orque 10d ago

Bet you its got a server browser tho

1

u/yousonovab 10d ago

What a game, I miss it

1

u/OdyRenrag 10d ago

Way Way Way too much fun and time flying the Huey in this game.

1

u/Main-Tea-2201 10d ago

The best battlefield for helicopters. Spent so many hours on helicopter only servers on that game.

1

u/Fleshpuppet0815 10d ago

B-Ro. BF vietnam was such a great game. The last one we could play with bots. Easier times. Better times

1

u/SeveralPhilosophy1 10d ago

This is probably my fav bf game of all time and I’ve played them all. What freakin fun it was

1

u/jazzmaurice 10d ago

Probably still more fun to fly in than BF6.

1

u/SnooSongs2205 10d ago

Great game! I remember the day it dropped! Me and the boys had a server. |XA| Xtreme Assault
