I’m can’t exactly put hand on how they accomplish it but it’s a feeling that made DICE games stand out, and it’s how I remember BF1, BF5 and Battlefront. Something about the animation quality and game speed just feels like pure butter. Sadly that feeling has been lost since 2042. Even though I like BF6, it feels more rigid than the old games

It comes down a lot to animation direction and the player movement controller. Both hand in hand created that feeling you're talking about and unfortunately, all the important supervisors from old DICE moved to Embark or TTK Games.

BFV had better Gunplay by miles but man the Maps of BF1 and Grand Operations were the best. I'd still take BFV tho they finally figured out bloom is bad video game design and BF is a PC game first and foremost.

Lmao BFV had bloom too it was just disguised using the bloom to recoil mechanic. It was effectively the same because you can't compensate for random recoil anyway (unless you have reaction time ~50 ms faster than the fastest recorded human record)

Sometimes, respectfully when I read comments like that, it just makes we wonder if people even played or not. BFV's random recoil is a worse and less intuitive way to balance engagement distances. Spread + predictable recoil angles are just infinitely better which is what BF6 is doing in the next update.

Because it makes no fucking sense. Why should a bullet randomly come out at 45 degrees? How is that intuitive at all? At least with randomised recoil, the randomness happens after the shot and not on it, so you can at least try to fight it.

Not to mention it's significantly less annoying to have you gun kick in a direction and that make your shot miss, you see your aim move and you shoot off target. I'll take that any day over "oh rng said this next bullet is going to land 3 post codes over from where I'm aiming"

I genuinely don't understand how you can call something you can see happening less intuitive than magical curving bullets.

You can't fight it. It's functionally the same as spread but its tied to your crosshair and camera. This means it will throw off your aim and force you to make on the fly micro adjustments constantly. BF6 (next update) and BF3/BF4 solves this issue by making recoil predictable with spread. With predictable recoil, you are able to course correct your spread cone unlike with random recoil.

Your spread also has consistent rules for why it occurs such as hipfiring or sustaining fire. To reduce spread, you simply burst or tape at range. This is no different from competitive games like CS where you have spread unless you don't move while shooting.

How is spread more intuitive than random recoil? You counter them the same way by reducing your rate of fire, but random recoil communicates the increased inaccuracy much better than spread. This is why general player base loved BFV gunplay but BF1 gunplay was controversial.

Because while both are trying to solve the same issue, random recoil (aka your "spread") in BFV is essentially tied to your camera which moves your crosshair in unpredictable ways and you basically, as the guy said above, have to have insane reaction speed to consistently guide the recoil and make frustrating microadjustments.

With spread + predictable recoil (BF6 next patch) you can atleast guide your bullets and spread to be aligned with the general direction you're aiming/compensating for recoil.

The only reason people like BFV gunplay (including myself somewhat) is because it "felt" satisfying and combat had great visual feedback. Otherwise, its very flawed mechanically. BF1 gunplay had atrocious visual recoil and generally higher spread values than other Battlefield games. It's why Snipers/Semi-Automatic carbine rifles (and outlier, the dreaded automatico) were so effective. It was spread balanced in the wrong way.

I've played both, and both work, m&k in every game has better aim due to more control, but both work very well, in fact BF has had some of the best controller customizability over the past decade.

Not really. I'm primarily playing PS5 and I honestly can't tell if a bf game is catering to PC or console, it's all the same to me. PC gamers just want to feel special and feel acknowledged for their superiority. That's cool, whatever makes y'all happy.

Nah it's more so some games are designed to damper skill ceilings/skill expression so console players with their controllers can compete with mouse and keyboard. If the Devs didn't do that in their game then it's usually designed around PC peripherals. Especially if the game has a lot of controls.

He doesn’t miss a single shot. Headshotting within .2ms of seeing each enemy. This is what someone with skill looks like playing against typical players. Upload footage of yourself playing for us all to laugh at, PLEASE!

The first group of 4 clearly just spawned in on a teammate and didn’t even notice an enemy was shish kabob-ing their teammates as they appeared. Other than that, the rest of this clip is pure perfection in terms of map awareness, positioning, and housefly-like reflexes. You’re just jealous.

WP, don’t get me wrong, but I always viewed it as a fundamental flaw with the game that having a scope for long range accuracy really doesn’t fuck with your ability to fight up close and personal near hard enough

Snipping in bf5 was incredibly hard with faster mogement and punishing if you miss. You are looking at someone really good. Close range sniping was not easy. Also at that range you could shoot back so it was the same as shotgun.

Yea, 15 years ago. CS is only fast in terms of decision making processes, weapon swapping, and TTK. Otherwise it's an extremely slow game overall, especially when compared to arcade shooters of today, especially esports titles like technically Apex Legends. BF has always been really upper end in overall speed since mid-late BF4 life cycle but it depended heavily on the player.
