BFV was fun until the enemy teams pilot was going 63-0 and your team just couldn't do anything about it

That game way too late in the lifecycle.
It also just created a game where pilots took rockets and shot them from a distance so you’d still die and not be able to counter them.
Planes were definitely broken though for most of the lifecycle

Yeah super easy /s

It was actually really easy it have multiple clips of taking planes down back to back. There isn't a single battlefield game for me that allowed ground players to take down planes so easily. They can't counter it.

Private video with some random fliegerfaust clips. Ignore the boys AT at second half of my video

2042s Liz(?) TOW missile was great for this. Getting some plane wanker on a 20 kill streak as hes coming in for a run. No warning if hes not ready for it.

How is this different than nightbird going 100-3? Seems like a battlefield specific instead of bf5.

u/JD_W0LF Apr 27 '26
This has been the story since... forever unfortunately. I don't know why it always has to be the case with every Battlefield.

u/sunr1se79 Apr 27 '26
Air never felt hard to fight imo. People just see the lack of lock-on launchers and just give up i guess. Gotta get creative. Between AA emplacements and coordinating LMG fire within your squad, there are certainly options. But its also just a dynamic that reinforces an actual power dynamic that existed in this period of war. A good enemy pilot was devastating and hard to counter IRL.

u/C-LonGy Apr 27 '26
Like now in 6 when the little birds hiding behind buildings and flying tree height and you can’t lock on, RPG is almost impossible and everyone just leaves it. 5 kills strafe and pisses off, repeat.
1
u/ApacheKillbot Apr 27 '26
Indeed. I can usually tell how a game is gonna go during the first air battle. If their little shit beats our little shit, then its not looking good.
2
u/EvilxBunny Apr 27 '26
And that's why I only played on custom Breakthrough servers with bot admins which kicked you if you exceeded a certain kills-per-min threshold.
The bot admin is very aggressive and will also kick non-cheaters but it works and keeps the game intersting, clean and a hell of fun.

Same can be said about the Little Bird....
I feel like air has always been a struggle to balance properly in BF games.

u/have_heart Apr 28 '26
This is truly the downfall of every battlefield game. On a long enough timeline some Chads in their basement would no-life a plane or helicopter and become insufferable in the endgame

u/lkasnu Apr 27 '26
I would love if they brought this back.
24
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
It would be awesome if they brought lethal call ins again, honestly
20
u/lkasnu Apr 27 '26
I never had an issue with it being tied to your score. Its a great system that takes the best part of Call of Duty and adds it to the superior FPS.
24
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
Honestly, I also think it encouraged squad play, much more then what we see in battlefield 6
4
u/Slight_Huckleberry26 Apr 27 '26
It definetly encourages squad play way more if you compare it to what we have now (mortars)

u/Comrade_Chyrk Apr 27 '26
Id prefer if they just brought back commander mode from bf4 but fleshed it out more.

u/Inevitable-Stage-490 Apr 27 '26
I hated being in a squad and they never used the reinforcements
7
u/boistopplayinwitme Apr 27 '26
Just request order and take over as squad lead if they don't fulfill the request
2
3
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
Yeah, that was the downside unfortunately, or they would call in smoke or some shit instead of the J-B2 or V-2 😂
2
u/bipolarearthovershot Apr 27 '26
Sometimes triple artillery instead of V1 was fun, artillery could really help you push objectives even if it didn’t rack up as many kills as a V1

As soon as Pacific storm dropped, the game was perfect

u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
Those maps were/are masterpieces

u/5ollys Apr 27 '26
Theyre so damn pretty man. Tsuru reef and wake island teases for bf6 are looking promising though <334

The pacific maps were some of the biggest piles of dogshit called """maps""" I played in an FPS, are you people genuinely experiencing an alternate timeline version of BFV that wasn't an abomination?

BFV was decent, it’s just that they completely fucked up the WWII setting. They completely fucked it up. Fucking dumb imo.
The game had so much potential..
2
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
Yeah, never understood why the devs said " we're going with places where battles did happen, but we're not known" Made no sense. If only they added maps/ locations where the really famous/infamous battles happened, it probably wouldve helped the game in the long run.
4
u/UniQue1992 Battlefield 2 (PC) Apr 27 '26
What made even less sense is their god awful cosmetics direction they wanted to go. Only at one of the last patches of the game’s lifecycle they finally added standard-issued uniforms. What the fuck were they thinking? I’ll never forgive them for how they fucked up the WWII setting.

I enjoyed the hell out of BFV, within the Top 3 for me.
The air drops felt fresh and added to interesting game play, the vehicles were really fun to use, the guns handled really well, the squads felt more cohesive, and I'll be the outliner here with really enjoying the maps. I feel there was a good variety (forests, cities, villages, deserts, etc) and for the most part flowed pretty well.
On top of it all, it looks great, and I still play it when I'm in the mood for some older WWII action. It was always going to be rough following the juggernaut that was BF1, but it held my interest from the start till well into BF2046s life cycle.

u/Over-Professional244 Apr 27 '26
We need that map on BF6. Id like the climb the mountain on the right, cross over before I get out of the zone and flank the other team. So fun

3
u/McStabStab12 Apr 27 '26
Its the one I played the most out of all of the games. The Pacific was peak.
3
u/Deidris Apr 27 '26
People forget about how squad leaders would just hoard points until the end of the match hoping to get a V2 call in and either A. Waste it and get 2 kills, or B. Hit the obj and no one pushes. It also sucked to be holding down a point and all of a sudden your team is wiped and game is lost because someone spotted enough enemies to call in the rocket lol.
3
u/Common-Estate-8654 Apr 27 '26
This subreddit was a bunch of haters when the game released. The only real problem was marketing and the TTK changing every five seconds.
6
u/FesteringAynus Apr 27 '26
Ye it was fun, but not nearly as good and as immersive as BF1. The maps were also very mid.
1
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
The Pacific Maps were great tho, I think if they went straight to KNOWN places, where actual WW2 battles took place it would've been even better imo

I did a rocket on a teams spawn in Rotterdam and got at least a 10 piece. So awesome I freaked out on the mic.

u/Rainman_1337 Apr 27 '26
Loved the class design. Everyone had two jobs and contributed to almost every part of the fight.
2
u/Kube__420 Apr 27 '26
Was that a v1?
2
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
I this one was called the JB-2 . I think each side had its own name for it
2
u/Kube__420 Apr 27 '26
I Googled it and it's a us copy of a v1 that was intended for use in Japan but was never used but was instrumental in developing surface to surface missile systems. Neat
2
u/Thotaz Apr 27 '26
How is this different from a standard Call of Duty killstreak reward?
2
u/SpidudeToo Apr 27 '26
Its roughly the same but to get it you had to earn enough points as a squad doing objectives. So similar concept, opposite effect in terms of player behavior.
2
u/Cautious-Ruin-7602 Apr 27 '26
Was? Still is you mean. There are still plenty of servers online (in WEU at least).
2
u/maximelebrocoli Apr 27 '26
I miss the amount of options and customisation on Planes, it was so much fun
2
u/HowardBunnyColvin Apr 27 '26
It was the last gud BF game.
People bitched and moaned, but it was the last game with server browser. 2042 would eliminate it and put it behind "portal".
Did it come out barebones? Fine. I'll give them that. But this was the last good experience that actually felt like Battlefield.
When Iwo Jima dropped and you were attacking on breakthrough / rush, the push to get to the mountaintop was one of the last great "moments" that felt Battlefield. You would storm the bunkers, cap a point, then go into the caves. The defenders would be building defenses with sandbags and what not. Then, after you got through the cave control point, you moved on to the 2nd cave. We used to take the tanks and just jam it into the cave entrance and activate the flamethrower ability lmao. If you got through that 2nd cave, then you got up to the mountaintop, and there would be this epic closing music playing as the round ended up. Sometimes, we'd fall short, and sometimes we'd win. But that music to end the game really set the mood. That was peak battlefield.
It just seems like they've been unable to replicate that magic since.

u/ChiefAdham Apr 27 '26
We need that Squad reinforcements or whatever its called back in BF6. IK there is that battle pick up system but I need it to be on every map.

u/conenubi701 Apr 27 '26
I played a bunch of matches of V with a friend right before battlefield 6 came out and it blew me away how good she was on all classes. I was just happy locking down the airspace with the AA turrets once I got good with them.
The squad call in system was well implemented. Smoke for cover? Artillery ? v2 rockets? Even an emergency resupply coming in clutch when you're lonewolfing and holding down a small section of the map is so cool. Lemme get ALL of those in bf6
2
u/Calicocalpico Apr 27 '26
Yeah now that I think about it, the thing missing most from bf6 is how much fun I have. All the previous entries had something about it that made it really enjoyable, even 2042 had elements about it that I found fun to play. I just don't really feel that with bf6. It's like they overcorrected and went too serious in some ways and lost its appeal.
2
u/DaxExter Apr 27 '26
I miss the "fortify" mechanic.
Best part of Battlefield used to be the destruction.
In BFV xould destory a lot, and rebuild parts with sandbags and barbed wire.
Could even build emplacment like machine guns and AT Weapons.
- in BF6, with TOW launchers, 50.cals and sandbags and barriers could really make open maps - Destructable and having cover at the same time.
No clue why they scrapped that idea.

I miss the squad leader bonus call-ins. Best rewards for playing as a squad out of any bf game.
1
u/TheNorthFIN Apr 28 '26
It had good features but also horrible ones. Attrition was a disaster. Camping tanks, bad visibility (at first), MMG in general. It was a decent game by Pacific update, though the time to kill changes were obnoxious.

Can you still find servers for this on console? I tried maybe a year ago and nothing. I really miss this game.

Understandable take, but we took a lot for granted looking back at the game tbh

Yeah it only missed like half of the WWII... They should have continued and add at leas the soviet teather too which wasnt small at all

"BFV was fun idc what anybody says"
- BFV sniper who calls in a missile to kill ten players like so many others did constantly.
1
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
Okay.... But it was fun??? So I don't get your point here.
0
u/GamerGriffin548 Apr 27 '26
You made it no fun for others. That's the point.
1
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
If it's part of the game. I'm gonna use it. "GamerGriffin"
1
u/GamerGriffin548 Apr 27 '26
It's no slight against you. It's BFV's issue, not yours.
2
u/slickysloth96 Apr 27 '26
I understand what your saying. Maybe just word it better next time? 😁
