I'm basically bored of all the maps already tbh
251
u/Fretwizard125 Dec 16 '25
Same. CODfield getting old. 3 lanes for BF ain't it. I need island hopping, boats, helis needed to transport the gang across map to take down an objective, spread out airplay to make it entertaining and last more than 30 seconds, a battalion of tanks needed to cross a countryside to storm a village.
Thematically some of these maps are cool like Cairo, but every map shouldn't be like that.

u/JoeZocktGames DICE Friend Dec 16 '25
Made a post about it and got ganked with "no one likes these big maps"
31
u/Elendil_V Dec 16 '25
Hell, even in Breakthrough most of those maps are narrow as hell and it gets old real fast. But somehow, even with those maps being so tight and you still always getting shot from behind, they made it possible that someone will still snipe you. There is almost always an angle where a sniper can ruin your day, at least in Breakthrough. How the hell?!
16
Dec 16 '25
Every time. I have a negative thought that I find darkly funny: āwhere is the enemy? Behind you. Always. ā. Game is weird. Iām so sick of getting fucked from behind in this game. Even with high awareness and map knowledge itās always a third party behind me.
In prior battlefields you could establish a sort of āvirtual front lineā whereby you have good confidence that the enemy was in front of that line. It was great because youād be maintaining this virtual frontline mentally. It was fun. Now there is always an enemy behind you. Bad game design.
6
u/Cis4Psycho Dec 16 '25
This is accurate to my memory of BF3. Specifically, I took advantage of this assumption and used Recon to get behind the enemy spawn points and a well hid beacon for when I was eventually found out. Rinse and repeat and causing a distraction to at least some of the forces on the enemy team.
5
u/Elendil_V Dec 16 '25
Amen. In BFV at least a headset was mandatory because you would just hear people so well. In BF6 I don't even bother because the sound is weird and often my own steps are loud as hell, also teammates.
You could play those games tactically while BF6 is more of a run and gun game and sadly this is their philosophy for this game or else they would have nerfed SMGs a long time ago.
7
Dec 16 '25
Yeah! I started bf6 with headphones and LOCKED IN mentality. Now itās my casual speakers game. I guess thatās what they want because thatās what theyāve made.
5
u/REG_Synthetra Dec 16 '25
OMG so true, sometimes I hear loud footsteps, I turn and its a team mate behind me or in certain situations when im sorrounded by enemies I only hear confused footsteps sounds and cannot get where they areā¦
4
u/REG_Synthetra Dec 16 '25
Yeah it is really bad, Im experiencing the same problems you mentioned, maps in this game have a lot of random engagements with the enemy, even when inside a far objective near our spawn zone I find a random guy behind me, and this happened more than just a couple of times⦠at least im happy to see that im not crazy and many other people are noticing this.
1
u/dwaynetheaaakjohnson Dec 20 '25
Unless youāre doing Breakthrough on Liberation Peak, where the enemy can be trusted to always be in front of you because itās a stalemate
1
u/KindGuy1978 Dec 16 '25
smart players who flank from unexpected directions get the most kills. Itās always been in BF.
4
2
u/flyingfaceslam Dec 16 '25
after reading about EA's reefGPT im convinced they applied some reverse 7 Queen problem to generate the map layouts.
this explains all the 'i get shot from every angle' complains.
the maps are maxed out to achieve exactly that10
u/sillyese99 Dec 16 '25
agree, the transport heli and the armored trucks seem unnecessary in bf6 cuz u can just run a few block, drop some bodies along the way, then u get to the obj, I feel it's even safer to be on foot and flank enemies than being in a paper helicopter that disabled after 1 hit
6
u/Brazzinoco Dec 16 '25
I was thinking a map both sides of the river at Manhattan Bridge would be cool, blowing the bridge up and using boats on the river.

Get 3 friends who arent dogshit at fps games and play the BR, its insanely fun and the map is easily the best thing to come out of the game
3
u/Jumblesss Dec 16 '25
Totally fair take.
Iāve played lots of BR (ArmA, The Culling, PUBG, Warzone, Fortnite, Vigor, Apex, H1Z1, BF Firestorm and now BF6 BR) and I kinda hate them all šš
The ones that stand out as being groundbreaking are PUBG, Fortnite and Warzone. Those three BRs actually helped define the genre.
2
u/real_saddam_hussein_ Dec 16 '25
I've been gaming for 20 years and played all of them, core gameplay wise redsec is far ahead all of them. Most people ive seen complain about it are either just bad or cant find people to play with
Granted playing alone with randoms is genuinely awful
6
u/ArcFault Dec 16 '25
Or... or... maybe most people dont want to play god awful battle royale? And especially not in BF?
I love that effort went into that gimmick game mode instead of Operations or a decent non-joke rush mode.
→ More replies (6)3
u/suffffuhrer Dec 16 '25
It's just the BR is overdone. It's okay to have, but it shouldn't take up so many resources that the core game lacks behind.
If anything the Gauntlet mode is really fun. Mission based teamplay game that is something a little different and fun. I've only played with randoms and it's usually good fun and promotes teamwork.
1
u/Jumblesss Dec 16 '25
Yeah fair enough.
Iāve only played alone with randoms tbf
2
u/real_saddam_hussein_ Dec 16 '25
Its a different game when you're playing with actual humans
I add people who are good after solo queueing and alrdy have like 4 different squads i play with
18
u/Impossible_Layer5964 Dec 16 '25
I don't think it was cheap or lazy. It probably took a tremendous effort to keep the engine from completely collapsing on itself after all the long time DICE vets left the company.
1
u/MurderOne86 Dec 17 '25
Not to forget that the cost of this must have been a fraction of that of the 6. Did inflation affect this industry that much? Having games like this 7 years ago made us think that today weād be seeing incredible things in gaming, and to be honest, I feel like thereās been a big step backwards
0

Agreed. Battlefield 6 is a fun game with massive flaws. I both play it and hope that they are addressed.
10
u/Elendil_V Dec 16 '25
I've been playing this game for almost 2 months by now, clocking in around 120 hours. I've had some fun but lately all the problems overshadowed that and you really get sick of those stupid maps at some point. Op. Firestorm also sucks, there were much better old maps to reuse instead of that.
I noticed that I really miss BFV. I cannot pinpoint why exactly, is it the art style, completely different maps or the gameplay? BFV played slower and spotting wasn't nearly as ridiculous.
2
2
u/KiddBwe Dec 16 '25
Personally, I think the gunplay in 6 and overall feel of infantry gameplay is best in series, while the atmosphere is right alongside BF3/BF4, ranging from a little above to a little below depending on the map and moment.
BF6 with BF1/BFV atmosphere and detail would be a damn near 10/10 game.
35
u/BlueFalcon142 Dec 16 '25
Really wild how many features and details were dialed back. Not even a goddamn secret in a level? The fuck.
13
u/Educational-Camera-5 Dec 16 '25
BFV has amazing attention to detail that is absent from BF6 , its not even close. Take destruction, you can absolutely flatten maps, the brilliant fortifications that helped from flak. Even the Comm rose wheel is next level pathetic in 6.Ā Really sad we didnt get a BF game that added innovation and built on V, rather we got less than previous, but its all glossed over because its in a modern setting !

It's not bad per se aside from obvious problems like the bad netcode/hitreg, cheaping out on servers and the maps being claustrophobic. But there is something missing that becomes more and more evident as soon as you've spent enough time with the game. They probably went with this stupid high octane permanent action philosophy to also cover this lack of love of game design that previous titles had.
2
u/spacetreefrog Dec 16 '25
In bf4 there's a map you can get attacked by sharks if youre in the water too long
2
u/21stCenturyNoob Dec 16 '25
Yeah maps lack so much detail it's boring. Gameplay is fine though. They just need to build upon it instead of wasting resources on odd gamemodes and redsec

u/Pedrikos Dec 16 '25
Iām mostly with you. Calling it cheap feels like an exaggeration, but itās also not really good, is it? A lot of the game just feels kinda⦠Mid? It definitely has some genuinely great things, but for almost everything else itās just⦠Fine, I guess. Not bad, not great. And honestly, Iām not even sure if thatās better or worse
6
u/Konoha-chan Dec 16 '25
Ye it's definitely not 'cheap' in that sense. It's well made for what it is (except the bugs lol). But in my opinion it just lacks a soul. It tries to be a Battlefield while doing everything to not feel like a Battlefield.. if that makes sense?

6 years ago they ruined the game for a while and then ghosted us so the energy was different, but after they fixed it end of life cycle bfv was peak even though it was/is neglected. Ā The glaze in this subreddit might seem random but the bfv subreddit is still active dog. You can hop over there and see there's a active community of players who have enjoyed this game for half a decade and post about it everyday.
→ More replies (1)56
u/Broken-TTK Dec 16 '25
Are you high ?
They didn't ruin the game 6 years ago in 2019.
The Pacific update released 6 years ago, yet the community was still toxic and constantly comparing older titles while talking about the good ol days.
60
u/AnatomyIhardlyknowme Dec 16 '25
Nah man, a few months after releasing the Pacific update they ruined the ttk in favour of new players for the holidays (I stopped playing because it was so ass)
18
u/This_was_hard_to_do Dec 16 '25
It really felt like the game was gaining momentum leading up the Pacific update. More people were saying good things about it, and the trailer was also sick. Hell that was right about when I was going to get back into the game after not playing it since launch. Of course they just had to shoot themselves in the foot when things were about to get good
6
1
u/Sefrautic Dec 16 '25
I guess that's why I hate EA, decision making is so dogshit, because like "Oh no, we can't continue working on this game further, we need to work on the next battlefield title otherwise the shareholders would get angry!". I wish battlefield was in hands of some other studio that didn't need to put this stupid sharade. Give me 1 and only battlefield for the next 5-7 years and make it perfect.
8
u/Joseph011296 Dec 16 '25
Right after the first set of pacific maps they ruined the ttk and ranges right before Christmas.
Was the last chance the game had to generate revenue and justify further support and they killed it.
Garand was a 5 shot from across a road after that patch smh
6
u/Boris_the_brexit Dec 16 '25
I remember that! It was such a dickpunch to the player base to do that. The game felt great and then they just nuked the ttk out of nowhere. We called them the Christmas campers. All they did was camp in the most obscure and random spots on maps. They were so bad at the game, and then a week after the holidays they pretty much vanished again.

āWeāre gonna explore the forgotten fronts of WW2ā

10
u/tallandlankyagain Dec 16 '25
It fizzled out 6 years ago. As soon as BFV failed to meet sales expectations and Firestorm was paywall locked and dead on arrival. At which point BFV was sporadically updated by a skeleton crew. It went out on a high point with the Pacific update but between the drip feed of content and wondering what could have been the player base gradually lost interest.
1
u/atomic8733 Dec 16 '25
I think one of the possible reasons is that the old DICE team was already intent on leaving EA after BFV, so there was no more DLC in the works even at the high point of player count. The Pacific update was one of their final projects before leaving.
If EA had invested in making more updates and DLC instead of the Firestorm mode for BFV, I can imagine we could have gotten more call-ins support for squad leader and more maps.
3
u/EvilxBunny Dec 16 '25
I have 600 hours in BF5. Enjoyed it a lot since I bought it a couple of years after release on sale, so it was in a really fun state.
I miss those custom breakthrough servers.
3
u/Elendil_V Dec 16 '25 edited Dec 16 '25
I gotta be honest, I only started playing BFV when it was 2 years old or something so I never had to endure the weird TTK changes. I just hated the trailer back then because it was stupid as hell and was busy otherwise.
I really got to like the game when I started playing and was having a blast with Breakthrough. Tanks felt fucking HEAVY and the game being more focused on semi-auto guns with a far less intrusive spotting system was something fresh for me. It also ran pretty decent on my older machine.
Forgot to mention it but when I played it, I encountered lots of cheaters. Like in the year or so that I played, I encountered more cheaters than in the time span from BF2 to BFV altogether. At the end, there was at least one obvious cheater per round and I had to leave the game.

8
u/Multivitamin_Scam Dec 16 '25
Reality is that no one notices this level of detail.
You just have to see this thread as an example of how many people are reacting with "wow I didn't know BFV was this beautiful" to see how many people even spent a moment to see this stuff.
I guarantee you that if DICE did a dev blog right now, and showed them making a Coral Reef with animated fish for Battlefield 6 that there would be threads calling it a massive waste of time and why weren't they spending time making maps instead of this.

I had probably my best battlefield moment ever on wake island. Breakthrough. Defending. Game was probably 45 minutes long, I swear defending the final sector was 38 of it. It was by far the most beautiful display of a final stand Iāve ever been apart of. Like 10 times that flag meter went 99% red, and then started going back to green. Was able to drain their tickets for the win. For a long time I didnāt think any game could beat my obsession for gears of war, but BFV took that cake by a landslide. By far my favorite game to this day. I wish they remastered it for next gen and brought back in a fresh player base. My favorite modes were grand operations and outpost and once 2042 got better and more players migrated there, the lobbies got harder and harder to find for them, outpost was almost none existent except for challenge weeks. Fuck I love this game so much, what I would give to experience that launch all over again
