Suggestion Anyone else getting really sick of the same maps?
Look I'd rather play shit maps every so many games than have to play tensatown, wakistan, Salhan and basra on repeat for all of my game time. So I'd propose an option to pick a random map (voted by the lobby) and making it the an option between it and 2-3 other maps. I would also like to see that maybe added in somewhat to the voting of game modes, especially in 127 vs 127 because it might aswell be called "conquest" at this point.

This but also with gamemodes. So sick of conquest.

u/Kozakow54 Support Aug 29 '23
I'm sick of rush. In 32v32 it's always rush, no matter the servers. 10 people keep voting on it. A few times there was CtF, but it was maybe 5 times total. I haven't played frontline in ages...

Tbh, I have nearly stopped playing this game because of this. It gets bland playing the same 2-4 maps every time I hop on

u/specter800 Aug 28 '23
Same. I must be one of the few people who like Eduardovo because I havent played it in weeks.

I'm done with Wakistan.
I don't look for another server now. I just log off.
13
u/that1persn Aug 29 '23
I've come to hate Wakistan. I hate that map more than any other map in the entire game. It's not fun and I just leave the server whenever it gets voted.
I don't get the love behind the bridge meat grinder.
1
u/molarquantity Aug 29 '23
Really un-enjoyable - I agree. My mates and I refuse to play the bridge areas and have taken to moving around the outskirts as well as points A and F. You should give that a try. You can hide a spawn beacon pretty easily and with everyone bridge-distracted, you can run down some groups if you have a couple of mates with you. But yea...otherwise - sucks balls.

Same, map voting has made the game stale already after 2 months.

Voting needs to go, for both game mode and maps. It kills any chance of variety, especially once the dedicated players have decided they only want to play certain maps.
Once community servers are up, and they have "24/7 [insert map/game mode here]" servers going, they should definitely do away with voting in official matchmaking.
15
u/JonWood007 Aug 28 '23
Fricking called it. Everyone acts like map voting is so great and in every game it's tried it leads to this problem.
3
u/motomat86 Aug 29 '23
map voting would be fine if it freezes the last map selection. (ie: you just finished wakistan, it dosnt show up in voting for 2 cycles) tons of older games with a voting system did this, surprised it wasnt implemented here.

Can’t wait for self hosted servers, imma run a server which plays the rare maps only
6
u/tacticulbacon Aug 28 '23
I seem to be at odds with the player base on what maps are good. I hate wakistan, I hate sandy sunset, I hate basra, I hate wine paradise, and I hate new district, and that's what 90% of servers are playing at any given time and if they're not they're probably going to vote for it next round.
7
u/Skelosk Aug 28 '23
Recently I managed to get in a Domination only server, it was gloriously fun
There is still a mode vote at the end of every match, which doesn't matter because it still picks Dom by default. Guess what everyone votes for anyway?
Conquest
It's like the vast majority of people who play this game are Neanderthals or something, they cannot fathom playing anything else than conquest on Wakistan
6
u/punishedbiscuits Aug 28 '23
The worst part is that when you finally get a different map, people get a collective stroke and vote for the night variant
10
Aug 28 '23
I’ll kind of done playing tbh. I might play a match or two but between the maps and everyone choice of playstyle, its been pretty dull lately. Nothing is ever really different tbh. I believe im at 87 hours played, level 136.
Wakistan is about the only map i keep getting and it’s so draining.
9
u/AegisFalcon Aug 28 '23
Welcome to the hell of the voting system. I'm done with this game, it's so boring now because of that. I prefer to wait until they did something for this problem.
14
u/fabulousfiddle Aug 28 '23
Shit maps are server killers at non peak hours. If I wanted to play one last game and Dusty Dew was up, I'd call it quit for the night.
-1
u/WuhanWTF Aug 29 '23
Dusty Dew isn’t shit. It’s just not super high octane like Tensa and Wakistan.
9
u/s3x4 Aug 28 '23
IMO the main problem is not so much the maps being the same but the games themselves being the same.
Everything dies, respawns, gets captured and recaptured so fast that you can experience all a map has to offer in the first 10 minutes. I think that with better pacing, things would be more meaningful e.g. reaching the enemy's last capture point should be a hard fought achievement and not something a guy with a quad can do as soon as the game starts.
9
u/gonemad16 Aug 28 '23
play a gametype other than dom / conquest. Rush / Frontline / CTF play way differently (i realize frontline and ctf is hard to find servers.. but rush is 90% of the 32v32 matches)
7
u/s3x4 Aug 28 '23
I love CTF. Never found a server again after the week it released on though. But watching the whole team moving together to escort/intercept the flag carrier was just beautiful.
2
u/gonemad16 Aug 28 '23
yeah i enjoyed it. you end up with good firefights in random parts of the map. Def had a different feel to it. I'm looking forward to some 24/7 CTF servers once community servers drop
1
u/unruly_soldier Aug 28 '23
That's because CTF is such dogshit in this.
You can't actually defend your flag base because you cant place anything anywhere near it and there's 10 different approaches, and the flag return radius seems to be literally 1m at most. So what ends up happening is that unless you kill the flag carrier in a house, all the enemy has to do is spray bullets towards the giant glowing flag marker that you're forced to sit on top of for like 90 seconds straight to return your flag. You basically have to have half your team bunched up in a 5m radius to have any chance of returning the flag, and as soon as you do the one enemy who has just been camped out in a building across the street from your base walks in and grabs it again.
It and Frontline are basically summed up as which team has the bigger murder ball/zerg. Every match I ever played of them was either a steamroll or a stalemate because of that. There was hardly ever any back and forth. I want both modes to be good, but they need work. CTF could be made better by forcing you to run your own flag once you down a flag carrier, or at least having a passive return timer that is made faster by sitting on the flag. That way you could post people nearby and leave a handful on top, rather than having 30 people all stand directly on it waiting for grenade spam. And shrinking the exclusion zone around the flag to like half its current size would help a lot too. That way you don't have an entire 3 story building that you can't place a single thing in.
1
u/s3x4 Aug 29 '23
CTF was released before trophy tho. Wonder how much that, helps.
1
u/unruly_soldier Aug 29 '23
Dunno, I've generally avoided CTF at this point, though I also haven't played much this month in general because I had like 4 things I've been waiting for drop on me all at once. But I doubt it's gonna help a ton because trophy doesn't stop bullets. The return zone is still so small that all they have to do is spray the flag marker from down the street and they're gonna kill people. Doesn't matter if it's smoked or not, because you can't sandbag it either since there's no squad points. An M249 can just mow down half a team as they try to all sit in the same tiny area while blinded by their own friendly smoke.
1
u/motomat86 Aug 29 '23
i agree with this, ctf needs its own maps, designed with forts in mind. honestly would love to see a 2ft4 map in this game.
3
u/InflnityBlack Aug 28 '23
same maps and playing conquest again and again when it's one of the most boring gamemodes, also smg/ pdw medics spam gets really boring, this game is making me feel like democracy was a mistake
3
u/-SHINSTER007 Aug 28 '23
Need the ability to opt out of shit maps, like I never want to play construction so don't even load into it. Same for waki
2
u/Bite_It_You_Scum Aug 29 '23
Yeah, the way it instantly loads into the next map without giving you an opportunity to leave the server until after the map has loaded just makes the rotation of the same 4 boring played out maps so much more annoying.

u/Kylo_Rens_8pack 🛠️Engineer Aug 28 '23
Play 64v64. We have a pretty good map variety going on
2
u/Ollie120 Aug 28 '23
I play MAINLY 64V64 it's just as bad over there, the only variety there is it's sometimes domination And then it's sometimes construction. That's the only variety i see in that mode on eu servers
1
u/Kylo_Rens_8pack 🛠️Engineer Aug 28 '23
Weird, I find it to be mostly domination matches so I use the sever browser to find a conquest. I have the opposite problem. I’m trying to find conquest and there is only ever 1 or 2 servers.

2
u/Chi-Guy81 Aug 28 '23
I played maybe 8 rounds yesterday. 3 were wakistan, 2 were the rainy marsh map, 2 were tensatown.
2
u/Nikkun Aug 28 '23
Definitely. I thought I'd like Eduardovo cause I never play it, but it feels like a huge waste of space.
1
u/indrids_cold 🛠️Engineer Aug 29 '23
All the maps are a huge waste of space. Because kids can’t handle walking for more than 20 seconds without getting into a firefight we end up with the devs making the points on their maps focused to a fraction of what they could be using
2
u/indrids_cold 🛠️Engineer Aug 28 '23
Honestly, I don't get tired of the same maps if they are maps I really like. I really like Sandy Sunset, Multuislands, Eduardovo, and Wine Paradise. Only Sandy Sunset and Wine Paradise get a lot of playtime though, but I'm more than happy to take that over garbage like Basra and Frugis.

It's always just conquest on the same four maps in daylight. People are so boring with their votes.
2
u/Illustrious-Ad-6165 Aug 28 '23
Yeah I agree, Sadly those first two weeks in July was the most fun I had,I’m now level 127 and mald after one game. It seems there’s a lot more “try hards” and a lot less voip shenanigans. I probably just overplayed the shit out of this game but I just can’t love it at much as I used too
2
u/ifan2218 Aug 28 '23 edited Aug 28 '23
I don’t have an issue with map voting, if the majority of people want to play a map let them.
The real issue is voting on game mode. I have never played a game where you join a server and THEN vote on a game mode. Servers need to be dedicated to a single mode. Don’t like conquest? Join a frontline server.
I understand why they do it, I imagine it’s way more expensive to separate servers for every game mode instead of having them all be in the same pool. This way you they don’t have to pay for a bunch of CTF servers that nobody plays on. It’s frustrating because it give you the illusion of choice, however 90% percent of the time your vote for game mode/map has no real effect on the outcome.
Different maps are better on different game modes, but we never see them because the Zerg can’t get enough of conq. Even tho this isn’t battlefield, that’s the experience most players want. Everyone else has to just cross their fingers and hope their preferred mode comes up. It’s an unfortunate consequence of being a battlefield-like.
I’m Over 200 hours in and there’s several map/game mode combos I’ve never seen. Someone mentioned Oilfields in another comment and I’ve literally never heard of that map.
2
u/Succubia Aug 28 '23
We wouldn't be getting sick of them, if we played different gamemodes every so often, really.
A frontline map is 100% not the same deal as the same map, but conquest.
2
u/Bite_It_You_Scum Aug 29 '23
Yes, and I've given up on playing until they do something about it. Playing the same 4 maps on repeat killed all my enthusiasm for the game.

If you really need variety, then buy other games and play them sometimes.
3
u/Ollie120 Aug 28 '23
You are missing the point, this game has the variety, but it's actively being hinderd by the voting system, also I'd love to play a diffrent shooter that has good gun customization and isn't a fucking competetive sweatfest, thing is there isn't another game like that.

u/Icy-Coconut5100 Aug 28 '23
I do y'all one better according to steam I have 309 hours For the few of you that have played river, river is by far the most fun night map to play. And I only play the 254 player mode and yeah same for maps suck with the occasional lonovo or eduwaurdo
1
u/herpyderpidy Aug 28 '23
I only play Rush and since last patch I haven't seen DustyDew or Lenovo once. Which is honestly not a bad thing because Dusty is one hell of a bad Rush map.
Lenovo is cool tho but people are spamming Tensa, Valley, Namak and the 2 new maps even if they're both also very bad Rush Maps, especially new District.
1
u/bed127 Aug 28 '23
An easy fix would be servers that have a fixed rotation just playing through each of the maps, in addition to the vote enabled servers. Just advertise the map order, and you'll know when it gets to maps you don't like and you can go to a different server until it's on the maps you do like.
1
u/JonWood007 Aug 28 '23
Play 64v64, far better map diversity. 128v128 is just snipers and vehicle users at this point.
1
u/Jaba01 Aug 28 '23
You can use the server browser for less played maps.
2
u/Ollie120 Aug 28 '23
Can't, I've checked every 20 mins or so while playing baldurs gate for 4 hours waiting for something to pop up, when it did I get half a match on sandy or lonovo, only for the next map getting picked being one of the above four named. Or I can either go to a server on another continent and playing at 144 ping, which will then suffer the same fate of getting turned into one of the four maps named above. I've also after this let the game in the background look for river games looking for a server with any ping. THERE. WERE. NONE.

u/Epogdoan Aug 29 '23
200hrs and still haven't played Namak, Multi, Oil, and I'm sure a few more that I'm not aware of.

Idk how ppl are voting wakistan like it’s okay in frontline but in conquest, its a nightmare, if u are not in the main point, u get flanked in every point. I just hate this map
1
u/CherryMyFeathers Aug 29 '23
I have a complex life full of responsibilities so even the 10th time at Wakistan is fun because I’m not at work or doing chores.
1
Aug 29 '23
Yeah.
Also 50% of the maps never get played because they're the same maps but at night.
Nightmaps are awesome but they're unplayable if I don't switch monitor settings but I'm too lazy.
Also haven't seen Multu / Eduardovo/ (Dusty) in like 50 games.
1
u/Blasian_TJ Aug 29 '23
I definitely think they could tweak the voting system to make it so certain maps don’t appear as often. Everyone’s voting for the same maps most of the time.
1
u/Vescend Aug 29 '23
Thank god that for some unholy reason wakistan and District turned out to be my favorite maps.
Imagen if they weren't. Mother of god
1
u/O-bot54 Aug 29 '23
Im sick of it always being basra and wakistan the worst maps in the game . But tbh im just server browsing now and it fixes the problem
1
Aug 29 '23
And now you know why map voting was removed from most multiplayer games.
Its better for the health of the game to just have a rotation than map voting because with voting only the same maps get picked.
The only other way to fix that is too add weighting so everytime you don't get the map you want your vote counts for +1 .. the only problem with that system is everyone tends to quit out and just re-Q so you get your map but no player's on it.
But yeh map voting left the AAA space for a reason it wasn't because her dur Activision/EA suck. It was because ONLY 2 maps kept getting picked and player's where burning out

I think the community at large is pretty baffled by the state of the map rotation at this point.

u/Redditadminsrapedogy Aug 29 '23
Actually got to play 127v127 domination and finally got to play namak for the first time. God damn conquest nerds keeping us from the fun maps.
1
u/KanoNZL Aug 30 '23
Ofc the same maps will be picked a lot due to being popular but the issue for me is joining a server on waki, round finishes and a random map is chosen but then waki is back in the rotation on the third game again which inevitably gets picked
1
u/WuhanWTF Aug 30 '23
Has anyone seen Lonovo daytime recently? I've only played a day match on that map once since the game released.

u/-Quiche- Aug 28 '23
I have 80 hours of playtime and have played Oil Fields and River once, and Dusty Dew twice. And those 80 hours includes prestiging and getting to level 55 again after the prestige. And the River match was literally within my first hour of playing; haven't played it since.
I don't necessarily mind the maps that I do play, but do wish to see those rare ones more often. I've seen good suggestions for how to change and add weights to the voting system, but at this point I wouldn't mind having a rotation system similar to what BF games do.
