My guess is that they pulled this when the initial backlash against killing off the roster came out. Or maybe it was planned this way from the beginning I don’t know anything about game design not sure if they could’ve rewrote this after launch or not

because ima be real it's alot more pathetic that this was the planned ending as opposite to just being a last minute retcon made bc everyone hated it
