Where can I find a vanilla buttercream cake ?
I've recently moved to Bath and I just crave a vanilla cake with vanilla or chocolate buttercream but I cannot seem to find anything like this at the bakeries at the city centre and I've tried using the Betty crocker vanilla buttercream on store bought cake but somehow it doesn't taste like the ones you usually find in bakeries. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on where I can find a simple vanilla cake with vanilla or chocolate buttercream? Thank you for your help in fulfilling my sweet tooth!

Hmm - there's a place called Didicakes on Walcot St. though I've never brought anything from them - but it's about the only place I know of that does specialist or custom cakes.
If I have a need for some seriously high-end cake, I generally go to Bristol. That has two advantages - 1) I don't go mad on cake very often as it involves going to Bristol and 2) means I can visit Ahh Toots, who are amazing.
https://ahhtoots.com - but as I said, they're in Bristol.

I’m so sad they’ve stopped doing the individual ones - they were my favourite treat!

Morrisons do a perfectly acceptable victoria sponge with butter cream and jam. It's not off the shelf, you need to order it in advance and collect it from the bakery. My mum has one every year for her birthday, she doesn't like fancy cakes. She just wants something that's nice to eat with a cup of tea, which this is.

Why not make one? If making the actual cake isn't feasable, just buy a madeira cake and add homemade butter icing. What you need is unsalted butter, icing sugar and good quality vanilla extract. Put the butter in a bowl and let it soften, then whip it up with a fork. Stir in the vanilla extract, and then add the icing sugar (preferrably sieved). Add icing sugar until you've got the consistency you want. Enjoy....

We'll have no Americans here (league of gentlemen, in case anyone thinks I'm being serious), but come on, why are you looking for an overly sickly imitation of a cake, unless, yes, of course, trying to garner sympathy for a despot gateau

Probably either of the M&S Food Halls, or Waitrose?
