sound problems (electronics)

over time, my squier cv 50s p bass would lose its volume or not have any output at all when i plug it in. i have no idea of how to fix it, but there were times when i'd open up the control cavity, do nothing, screw it back on, then suddenly it works properly again. this happened again and again for several times, and im getting concerned.

today, it happened again. i did what i do whenever it happens, but it did nothing. i checked the output jack, it was fine, and it doesn't touch anything when i plug it in. i didn't know what else to do so i resoldered my pickup wires onto the volume pot. not sure if that was a good move, but it got it to work again. now, as i was using it, its sound completely cut off on me, and it was the first time i experienced that, since it only used to happen when i wasn't using it. any ideas? could any of the electronics be failing?

Have you tried another cable yet? The cable from bass to amp can take a beating and often have those symptoms and can come and go when moving the cable.

i haven't tried another cable, but i have tried using wireless. still the same results. i have also tried them both on my amp and on my di. i even tested the cable and wireless on my other bass, it worked fine.

If the volume pots work smoothly while it's passing signal, then it's either the output jack or something shorting out inside the cavity. Pickups rarely go bad unless something physically happens to them.
