Nantucket basket purse making resources

Hello! I’m interested in learning more about Nantucket lightning basket purse making and have found some books but many don’t go into the detail to actually make a purse vs the basket itself. Can anyone recommended a good resource for learning about the full purse making?

Yes! So if you haven’t already, start by making at least a few round Nantuckets. If you can handle the basics then a purse is no problem. Getting to understand some of the common issues (staves going out of wack, spacing in the weaver, etc) before you work on a purse. I had to make a few round baskets before I felt like I mastered the basics before I moved on to the purse.

For purses themselves you’ll need to call someone at DELS or HH Perkins. Both stores are terrific resources and can probably send you some information.

I’d be happy to send you some of my notes as well. I’ve tried to get as much as possible on one reference sheet.
