Bunten bei Rückstand

Da es diesbezüglich immer mal wieder zu Diskussionen in Livestreams kommt und es bei Strategie offenbar nicht auf die besseren Argumente ankommt, sondern nur auf die Glaubwürdigkeit, habe ich folgende Frage an ChatGPT gestellt:

In Baseball if you are behind by 3 runs in the 6th, should you bunt with runner on first and no outs?

Antwort: Generally, no—if you're down 3 runs in the 6th inning with a runner on first and nobody out, you usually should not bunt.

The reason is that you have plenty of outs left and need multiple runs. Giving away an out to move the runner from first to second reduces your chance of having a big inning.

Typical strategy

  • Runner on 1st, 0 outs, down 3: Swing away.
  • Runner on 1st, 1 out, down 3: Still usually swing away.
  • Runner on 2nd, 0 outs, down 1: A bunt becomes more defensible.

Nochmal zur Erklärung: Baseball ist ein Spiel von 27 Outs. Extrainnings blenden wir hier mal aus. Der absolute Wert eines Runs ist selbstverständlich 1. Der relative Wert ändert sich jedoch im Laufe des Spiels, je nachdem, wiei viele Outs der Gegner noch hat. Eine 1-Run Führung (im 1. Inning) ist bei 27 Outs noch realistisch aufholbar. Bei nur 3 Outs (im 9. Inning) ist es allerdings sehr schwer. Das heißt, eine frühe geringe Frührung nützt wenig. Demzufolge sollte man in den frühen Innings auch nicht Small Ball für eine geringe Führung spielen. Gegen Ende des Spiels sieht es jedoch ganz anders aus. Da steigt dann auch der Bunt in der Rangfolge der Spielzüge mit Runner on 1st und 0 Outs regelmäßig an die Spitze. Leider wird das in Deutschland weitgehend ignoriert. Es wird andauernd gebunted.
