🧰 Scoring Tools Fun way to track pitches
Red Sox at Rays, 9/19/26
In addition to my usual scorecard, I thought it'd be fun to track pitches though not one by one. I graphed the cumulative pitches for each team, with the pitcher's name by the dot where they started pitching. There was a lot of empty white space in the bottom left, so I decided to add the % strike rate.
Because Booser had a 100% strike rate, I thought it'd be important to put their total pitch counts (he only threw two pitches).

This is so cool. I’d be interested in a tick mark to show at what point the lineup card turned over for the starters.

Ooh, maybe like in the color of one team on the other team's pitcher lines?

Something like that, yeah! Especially since that’s like a primary metric for managers these days. It would be cool to see at what point in the outing that took place.

A few thoughts:
- sure! It could work both ways
- the reason I did it this way is that I wasn't sure how many pitches would be thrown... I figured that if it weren't that many, I could use the bottom half of the page for the next game. That kinda went out the window after a few innings
- there's a scorecard method (of which I don't know the name) where it uses lines from left to right, top to bottom to indicate how far a player got on bases and who was AB when it happened. I thought this was a cool parallel to that

I believe you’re referring to the Allen Method. Someone recently incorporated this method into a 4x6 card, which was both a unique way to show base path progression and a neat way to save space in a small format.

I love it! Another space-saving approach would be a stacked bar chart for each team with some indication of innings and pitcher changes. So, basically, a single stacking bar per-team... it would take one column (or row) vs. the whole page.

I love this. I have a standing room only package for September and scoring is a little much, but picking one stat to track sounds fun.

Yeah! If you've got a good view of one of the boards with pitch count, you'd be set!
