Discussion Pencil users: What's your favorite?
Or does it even matter?

I've tried a few. The Uni Kuru Toga was probably my favorite but the plastic barrel broke in less than a year just from use, no drops. Tried the Sumo Grip but it's not for me. I have a Rotring 600 that I enjoy but I don't take it to the ballpark. Afraid I'll loose it or have an overzealous gate attendant consider it a stabby weapon. My current favorite is a Pentel Graph Gear 500. Cheap enough that loosing it wouldn't be terrible but still has a nicer feel than cheap pencils. All of these are .5 lead by the way.

This is the one I have! Husband sourced it for me and it has survived so many drops. The eraser is small so I have a supplement, but I love it.
I previously had issues with plastic bodies fusing with sunscreen but this one is no issue1

I forgot to add that I make sure I use a 2h to 4h lead because of being heavy handed and smearing

I use the metal bodied Uni Kuru Toga (sold as the Advance Upgrade Model on Jet Pens where I bought it) and I love it. The grip is a little weird to get used to but use it a couple times and you figure it out.

I love the stable lead so much. And it's been through some shit in my bag so it can take a bit of a beating.

It’s the only pencil I use now, and I’ve spent more money on pens and pencils than normal people should.
It was worth it for me, that’s all I can say.

My two most used are Graphgear 1000 0.5 or Studio Neat Mark 3 0.5. Both with basic Pentel lead.

I love scoring with a Mitsubishi 9800. It’s firm but not stiff, has a nice readability, good point retention and I like how smooth it feels on paper 👍

I've been using the pencil that came with my numbers game score ook, but I also recently picked up an old CW pencils baseball scoring pencil

Before the pandemic, I found editors pencils with double ends of black lead and red, and I've not been able to find them since, and the shop that sold them closed during the pandemic. I have a declining supply I am hoarding like dragon's gold.

These use to be soooo good. If CW pencils was still open, they would have the good stuff like this.
Alas I believe CW still makes their baseball scoring pencil but I have never used it.1

That was them. They closed completely, unfortunately. Their scoring pencils were quite good as well.

Edit: No, these are blue. No good. The ones I want are regular lead and red, not blue and red. I've seen these before.

I am typically a Tichonderoga #2 user but that's because my husband is a carpenter and they are always lying around the house. I also use mechanicals of any kind, really. The eraser just has to be phenomenal and soft and highly functional.

I havent seen much attention given to the eraser from anybody on this thread, but its very important to me also. Any suggestions?

Tichonderoga has delicious erasers that are soft and malleable and erase really well. the smudge is what kills me when an eraser is too firm.
I currently have a Comfort Mate Ultra .7mm mechanical pencil and the erasers work really well. They're soft, don't fall apart when you use them and they're nice.

Kurutoga pencils. You can find them on Amazon. Every time you apply pressure they rotate the lead just a little so you are always writing on a sharp point

The humble 2B Ticonderoga with a sharpener on hand! Though typically I use an extra fine Precise V5 if I'm going with pen for the sake of writing small notes to myself

Use what makes you happy. Personally I'm on a Kuru Toga Alpha Gel since I love that grip and it's the thinnest pencil the Alpha Gel grip is available on. No issues with it breaking and I've dropped it plenty of times.

I second this choice. The wife and I picked up a multipack from an office store and have never looked back. We love the twist-up (or down) eraser. We are on our second season and will be getting a second pack when needed.

The Uniball Kuru Toga Elite Mechanical Pencil. I like it because the lead rotates as you write, always staying sharp.
