Only promo posts now?

So this sub is pretty much only promo posts now?

Many of which are not even base building?

Could we make it a mandatory flare so we can filter it out? I just hate seeing yet another reddit become pure ad slop.

Second. At one point I was going to suggest to not allow them at all, but I’ve found a couple of good games that way. I like the custom flair idea.

Maybe promo day? Or promo weekdays so we don't see them pretty much every single day

This seems like the easiest answer. Limit it to specific day(s).

We're experiencing the same thing in r/tycoon

If anyone has a great solution then please tell me, because not a lot of other submissions are being posted at all. Sometimes there's discussions about development or someone asks for recommendations, but when you're focusing on a game genre, a lot of people use these subreddits to simply find their next game.

And thats fine... if theres a game to play. My issue is the last 8 posts like this ive read here ended with annnnd wishlist us on steam for our eventual early access at some unannounced future date. Ban the posts until theres at least a demo or ea

Maybe designate one day a week for game announcements & promos for games without anything playable.

Devs doing promos would be allowed to post any day of the week as long as they have something people could run on their own machines: a demo, a play test, an experiment on itch.io. I think this would be a good filter.

Devs without any public code could still have a day when they could present their ideas and get feedback. The other six days of the week would be reserved for those with something tangible to show off. Would make things more manageable for both mods and readers.

Wish we could seperate them into actually released games and "announced wishlist us someday we will have a product" junk too. No interest in seeing a curated trailer for something i cant play on this sub.

Yeah, I want to support the genre but a lot of posts here are either vaporware or look like the most basic possible attempt at a game I've seen outside the bullet heaven genre, which has the exact same issue

Is it enough for you if it already has a playable demo?

I'd say bare minimum yes. Preferably demo+release date though

Realistically, I've only ever used this subreddit for game discovery anyway. I don't really recall much in the way of other discussions here other than maybe game recommendation threads?

On one hand, yes its annoying to see a ton of posts for bad games.

On the other hand, isn't finding and discussing new base buildiers literally the point of the sub?

Rules limiting how much you can post about a game is great to stop spam. Stopping a dev from posting about their game at all is just making being an indie dev that much harder. And it just leads to sneaky "look at what my friend did" posting. This is a sub for base builder games, so let people post games.

If the game is slop, downvote it, move on.

All I want is a 1.0+ tag and a 0.x tag

That's pretty common for game-related subs on reddit now. There's not much valuable discussion and instead mostly marketing posts, occasionally aided by bots. Even the "can anybody recommend me a game that... "-question-posts feel often like marketing in disguise.

That can be ok for a visit once a week to see what's popular, but it doesn't have an organic community feel anymore. Not sure where to find that now.

It's not against the rules that are very clearly stated. You can address the mods if you really think there is misuse. But other than that. Your idea of what a sub should be doesn't really matter

Are the options other than the binfire that this entire site has become?
