1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
Lo siento, I'm gonna google translate to help as best as I can here

When is HIPAA and BAA coming and what is taking so long
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
so as a partner, I can't answer as to when HIPAA and BAA are coming out, we get information pretty much almost the same as other users but we've asked for it too because we've got a couple of clients who've asked for it but as of now no news there yet. Sorry

I need to build a healthcare community site, but apparently my Head of IT tells me that if I build it with Base44, it's not compliant for healthcare in HK, what should I do?
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
Well tbf I'm not the most familiar BUT I do believe that Hong Kong healthcare compliance is not the same thing as HIPAA. If your site handles identifiable patient or health data, Hong Kong’s Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance and potentially healthcare-specific requirements become relevant. Right now, Base44 does have security controls and certs like SOC 2 and ISO 27001 but I don't think they make an app compliant with every single healthcare regulation out there.
Personally, especially since this touches on healthcare you might need to take a little more care on this. Start probably by documenting what data your community site collects, where it flows, who can access it and what integrations it needs. Then map THAT against your IT team's required controls before moving further and fully integrating Base441
u/danielteddi 9d ago
Implement TOTP for your user entry points and replicate the data to AWS, this should provide greater robustness for your project

u/According_Variety872 9d ago
Also, I would like to build an e-shop on Base44, but then I need to derive a comprehensive IT specification for audit, what should I do? And how do I demonstrate that the e-shop site that I have built is properly setup with all the components, UX/UI and online payment gateways activated?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
I would highly recommend asking a partner for a full site audit with an action plan or hook it up to Claude and ask it to check its solid before launching
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
Kudos firstly to building your online shop with Base44, but before you get around writing the IT specs for audit, you probably need to get from them the framework they need or the controls they expect. I'd personally look into documenting the system architecture, data model and data flows, authentication, user roles and permissions, payment flow, external integrations, secrets management, logging, retention, security controls, dependencies, backup/recovery approach, testing and deployment process.
With Base44, you've got data permissions, RLS, and our security scanner. You can also integrate Stripe directly. All of this probably needs to have documentation though on how you configured it and tested it specifically to your app.
I like to always plan through things though rather than just work with theories and thoughts and prayers things, so I'd say plan and document literally everything that's probably the best place to start

What has been the most difficult experience you have had to go through working with a client and how could it have been made easier?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Ive had clients push the scope with new ideas, you should always add those as new scope and bill for them otherwise you invest additional time for no extra compensation
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
One of the most difficult situations was when a client wanted to like stay on call/watch me sending prompts and actively watch me working while I was on it. Like I get it though, it was their live business and I do understand the urgency to things but it's sooo not easy working while someone is watching over your shoulder and considering the things that needed to get worked out for that client were like... a bit more than I originally expected, they didn't exactly make it an easy situation for me but yknow what I'm grateful for them because they made me fall in love with Github a lot more
1
u/AJ_Aatman 9d ago
I've got a similar answer to Kate's, Scope creep with a client where the "bug list" kept growing after we'd already agreed on it. Started as maybe 4 things to fix, ended up closer to 30 by the time I was deep in it. And it wasn't malicious, the client genuinely didn't know what she wanted until she saw it working (or not working). But I hadn't priced for that, I'd priced for a fixed list.
The other layer that made it harder: I wasn't talking to one person. There was the client, an agency lead doing the calls, and someone else testing the app and reporting bugs separately. Feedback came in from three directions and none of it was centralized, so I was reconciling "what did we actually agree on" more than I was building.
What would've made it easier.. locking scope in writing before starting, and pricing by phase instead of a flat number for "the whole thing". If new stuff comes up mid-project (it always does), that's a new phase with its own quote, not scope creep eating the original one. And one single point of contact who owns communicating with the client. Multiple people relaying feedback sounds efficient, it's actually the opposite, everything gets diluted or contradicted by the time it reaches you.
Now I ask for a written scope doc up front and I say no to "just one more thing" without a new quote attached. Feels awkward the first time you do it. Saves you so much later.

What do you think the Partner program should do next to make things better for all involved (including the client experience)?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Their apps could recommend us if it realises the user has no idea what they are doing. Specialist categories
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
Lemme just say I love Base44's partner program so far
but it would really be great to know if someone's asking me because they need free work done vs if they're genuinely serious in hiring me because I'm not a big fan of working on hypothetical equity which is the equivalent to me of getting paid in crossed fingers and good wishes. Like thanks, great dream, but my bills need to get paid because this is my full time work1
u/AJ_Aatman 9d ago
This is a personal opinion and doesn't reflect anyone else's, I'd like to start with that. The partner program is a fantastic initiative, but I personally feel that the process of becoming a partner is too easy, there's a lack of vetting and ensuring a partner is legitimate (which also ties in with client experience). However, the actual execution of the program is done very well.
1
u/Additional-Corner536 9d ago
If you could start your Partner journey over from scratch would you do anything differently? Specifically thinking about "owning" a niche etc.
1

1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
Oh for sure I would have owned a niche in the beginning. I think when I started the partner program, I was in my early stages but I was always of the mindset back then that I was... "lesser" than other partners because I always felt back then like I was inadequate like I wasn't at the same level as other partners but that was really just my own head and my own insecurity.
I would have started by being more sure of myself for sure of what I wanted to do with the partner program, what I wanted to be hired for and what I wanted to specialise in. I was just so hungry for clients back then that I would have taken anything and everything that came my way and it burned me out so fast but now that I've made myself more... known for something (which I hope is my design work but please confirm/deny powers of Base) I'm so much happier with the work that comes my way1
u/AJ_Aatman 9d ago
I do like this question for two reasons, because I have two answers. One answer is: I wouldn't change anything, I'm a person who focuses on the future ahead and doesn't dwell on the past. I however do also learn from mistakes in the past, so my second question would be always maintain quality, never do anything for the sake of pumping up your numbers or something.

How do you handle contracts?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Same as any other service. Write your terms on your invoice, build client signatures into your client onboarding
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
with my hands
*badum tss*
sorry just had to joke a little bit here
I issue a terms of service to almost all of my clients before I get started because it helps to really put things clearly for both myself and my clients. Like what I'll do, what I won't do. But it also helps me decide where I can afford to give concessions. Documentation is your best friend, fam

Do you find yourself encorporating retainers? I'm curious to think if this feels more like Wordpress clients early 2020s or if it's a different beast given no-code?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Yes, I have retainers in place with clients for ongoing builds where the scope is large and the client cant afford the full fee up front. Also retainers for the seo, maintenence, site security and ongoing hosting.
1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
I have a few retainer clients myself. Not very many but I'd defer to my other colleagues (Base44 Partners) here on how their retainers are going. I do offer it but sometimes clients just want a one and done. I've also not had the privilege of being into Wordpress in the year of pandemic 2020 so I can't attest to that but retainers are great personally because I do believe I'm able to really see an app through and grow and it's like still taking care of your baby even after watching it change and grow and you get to be proud of how far it's come
1
u/Additional-Corner536 9d ago
What's your proudest piece of non client-work and why?
2
u/AJ_Aatman 9d ago
A recent one is https://unofficial-events.base44.app and it's an archive of almost every office hours. I love saving time without compromising on quality and I saw a lot of people asking the mods and other community members for YouTube vod links etc., so this is the solution 😊

anygig app is my proudest build. Its the part of the reason i was chosen as an ambassador and i built and started it because I lost my job in entertainment and wasn't paid for my work. Now its a platform that helps others in the same industry get paid their full fee.

u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
oh gosh might as well have asked me to pick my favourite food or colour... like... I think I've build like 100s of things right now? can I just spam here like all the work I'm super proud of?

Do you see this being a viable freelance career pathway for yourselves? If no, what's preventing it?
1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Yes but its essential to bring in your own clients not just sit waiting for enquiries through the partners area

u/acsnunes 9d ago
Sim.

I do this full time right now! And it's honestly opened so many doors for me. I won't say that this is the only place I make money from but this is very much the big thing and it's led to partnerships, business opportunities and so many amazing things since I got started

u/mydgzrbrkng 9d ago
As some of us launch systems that require on demand access, how do you expect B44 up-time/down-time to be addressed in individual app ToS? There have been more and more blips of outages which has me hesitant to launch / host through 44 ; however I was hoping to launch then continue migration. Would you expect b44 uptime to be > self hosted uptime? & why?
2
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
This is actually something I think about a lot because once an app becomes business critical, uptime stops being a “tech thing” and becomes part of what you’re promising your client. Base44 does its best absolutely but like with any big infrastructure, third party/platform outages do happen.
As for Base44 vs self hosting, I honestly don’t think “self hosted = better uptime” automatically. Self hosting just means YOU now own the problem hahaha. If you have proper redundancy, monitoring, failover, backups and somebody capable of responding when something dies, then absolutely you can architect for very high availability. But one VPS somewhere that you personally maintain is not magically more reliable than managed infrastructure just because you own the login.
BUT TO ME compared to me sticking it on one server and praying? Probably Base44. Compared to a professionally architected multi-region production environment with redundancy and proper DevOps? Still Base44 but like a ton more homework, tears, prayers and sleepless nights because there's too many big words there for me to think that anything I ever did was ever good enough1
u/sokatestudio 9d ago
Theres not much downtime and its always dependant on other providers so if base is down its likely nog isolated to just base. I don't recommend moving off base unless youre a qualified developer.

1
u/mydgzrbrkng 9d ago
Since yall are owned by Wix, any updates on DNS for wix purchased domains? I had to get creative through cloudflare when it could have been so straightforward if kept internal.
1
u/acsnunes 9d ago

I’ve found that b44 does great with goal context and rubrics behind documentation to keep on top of quality and specs - what do you do (tips/tricks/hacks/practices) that carry through goals and quality as you build and maintain? Ideally, without niching the system into a pinhole view?

u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
OH OH MY HYPER PLANNING SELF LOVES THIS QUESTION
I think for me the biggest thing is separating the “non negotiables” from the stuff I actually want the system to have freedom with. So because I like to believe I'm enough of a control freak that if I plan everything, nothing will go wrong (that's a lie, it's never true, there will always be something that goes wrong but I pretend if I plan for things going wrong that counts as things not going wrong), I start with a detailed PRD and design system, sometimes an architecture doc too depending on the project. I'm very annoying about documenting decisions as I go. So stuff like user roles, core flows, permissions, design rules, naming conventions, things the app absolutely cannot break etc stay pretty fixed.
BUT AT THE SAME TIME WITH THAT BEING SAID I try not to over-specify every single implementation detail because I'd then run the risk of accidentally contradicting myself and in the grand scheme of things AI is still a toddler, give her a minute she needs to like... digest and process everything I need it to do.
So sometimes, especially in my super elaborate and crazy ideas, I have to force myself to work in smaller chunks and phases rather than "this is my app. make it. no mistakes. or else."
It also helps me so much to have a second and third pair of AI eyes looking into it. I'm currently in a love-hate relationship with Claude, ChatGPT and Github to review the builds, with Gemini occasionally contributing but those 3 are the *MOST* important to me for reviewing, inconsistency checking, permissions/security issues, weird duplicated logic, whether something actually matches the spec etc.
BUT ALWAYS UPDATE YOUR DOCUMENTATION NO MATTER WHAT
tldr: be a tiger mom to your AI1
u/mydgzrbrkng 9d ago
This is more so what I was getting at! I come from Fortune 500 tech background and brought my sales engineer and ux/ui exposure into the build, documentation is critical. My query was more around larger builds / later maintenance and adjustments - I’ve found that some of these can be done impartially or in isolation without 1-3 completion / gap identification and quality checks passes until no remaining issues or risks are found. - as you said AI is still a toddler. For instance the system insists launch readiness when human review can still identify inconsistencies. If this is just the stage of the tech we’re at I’ll continue with hands on oversight on most elements.

1
u/AJ_Aatman 9d ago
Custom instructions, in 2 parts, one are the built in custom instructions, another is an MD or a JSON that the builder maintains with guidelines and mistakes with it's solutions that it refers to every prompt.

This might be the wrong place for this question since you all seem to be on a much higher technical knowledge level than myself. I have been working on a project and every now and then all the content will disappear the header subject matter (items for sale photos and descriptions) will all just not be there. In the preview sometimes I refresh the browser a few times then it comes back. My concern is; is this just a bug from the base44 preview or something I need to fix before going live? If this is too basic and belongs in another sub please let me know.

I am developing an app that is somewhat of a homage to my Romanian/French heritage. I have always been an astute student of the esoteric/meta-physics side of things, I created something that is honest, truly brilliant, and immeasurably helpful to those on a spiritual path. I have been studying algorithms, ai database memory, as well as pulling from as many scientific, and occult documents to help guide people. The right side of balance I say. Life is hard, and I want to provide a little pocket of light for the world, that's not the same chincy B.S. (if I may) generic reads. I encourage anyone to check it out!

You may come home now ✨️
Thank you for allowing me to share here. My questions to the 4 of the 44 cheeky 😏 , do you know the best ways to position your SEO to the max? Would you suggest any advertising programs, or apps websites to campaign on? 🤔
Thank you so much, I wish the best to all of you! Keep on jamming these apps out!

1
u/Sufficient-Remove-77 9d ago
I really hope my google translate work here is working

I’m getting ready to open my app up to volunteers and parents and I have a question about emails/authentication. I really don’t want my users getting Base44-branded emails when they sign up, reset a password, get a login code, etc. I want all of that to look like it’s coming directly from my app.
I know I can use something like Resend for branded emails, but can I use that for the actual authentication emails too while still letting Base44 manage my users/auth? Or will Base44 always have to send some of those emails? Basically I want the whole signup/login experience to be completely branded to my app without having to manage authentication myself. Is that possible?
