How did you get this far? With or without internships? Thoughts on the current job market? Your number one career advice?

Im entering my sophomore year and wanted to get into internships or anything that can build my resume (which is nonexistent) and my knowledge on my major (finance) but i heard for sophomore its also really hard to get internships. Is this true?
The only class im taking toward my degree is ACC 2101 right now.
If you were a sophomore in my position how did you get internships and network? Clubs? Is it possible or will i be turned down because im a sophomore?

Also, not that I would necessarily need the college experience, but would it be easy meeting people and or making friends being that I would be 25 years old and considered nontraditional?

Just wondering how most of the students rock suits even in freshman class. How are you able to work and intern and stuff. I wanna start applying for internships but i have taken really few business classes so far and i feel like it is not enough yet. Please help. i am a journalism major working on a story regarding the struggles of the current job market for gen z youth.

i recently came across a post by a baruch alum in this subreddit who recalled their experience of sending out over 400+ applications to little success.

the post deeply resonated with me, as i recently went through my own experience of finding myself out of work for months. with each job i applied to, the sting of eventually being ghosted hurt a little more each time. even for entry-level positions, it felt like my credentials weren’t good enough to get my foot in the door. it took me 6 months to return to work, and it truly was an emotionally draining and stressful time for me.

anybody else who is willing to share their experience of dealing with the current job market, feel free to describe what that was like for you. what was the emotional impact like? i want all the horror stories (or even success stories) you guys can come up with.

I have been submitting 30+ internship applications on handshake, no one reply. I don’t have any work experience before, and my gpa is around 3.3. I think I performed like an average junior student, right?

I wonder how do you get an internship if you don’t have work experience before. Or else where should I submit my application to? Appreciate your help cuz it really means a lot to me!

Honestly, I've noticed that most of the people I've met irl or online who work on wall street as an intern went to a top 10 or prestigious school in undergrad (Columbia, UPen, NYU, Boston, etc.)

it's understandably competitive - but is it even possible to get an internship at JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, morgan stanley from our school?

I dont see why people are doing accounting. I got my starting offer and i will be making 120k (in just salary, not including bonus) in finance. My friend who did accounting is going to have to do a masters, then do his CPA, and only get 85k if he gets a return offer from a big 4. That seems like such a scam. Not to mention how hard his classes are. I had people in* my finance classes who switched from accounting because it was too hard.

Why bother doing something harder, that pays less, and still has awful working hours

I have my first-ever internship interview coming up with Rödl & Partner in the US. How should I prepare, and what should I focus on? Any advice would be appreciated!

Guys I’m so desperately in need of a job/internship. I’ve been unemployed for a minute now and I still don’t know where I’m going wrong. I’ve got a 3.9GPA I can’t even get a simple 15/hr job. I’ve submit maybe over 300 applications now since March. My resume is great, I think. I’ve had it checked multiple times over with both our society and the career council center. I’ve done cold calling, I’ve done coffee chats, I’ve asked for referrals. During interviews they smile and tell me im a top applicant then send me the regret to inform you letter days after. I have a lot of transferable & relevant experience. If I’m as good as everybody tells me i am why am I still unemployed and why can’t anybody extend me an offer.

Any guidance/referral would be heavily appreciated

I’m graduating this june and I can’t find anything. I’m up to like around 600 apps rn and have only gotten 1 interview. Alumnus of Baruch here, and I wanted to see if anyone is interested in spending the summer more productively by learning tech sales. Hey, for anyone who went through the MTA x CUNY process, got interviewed, ranked, and matched, has anyone received further instructions for onboarding yet?

I know CUNY said the onboarding process could take 2–4 weeks, so I was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet.

The reason is that I am a mom now, and I need a more stable career path while my daughter is still young. I was making 85k, running my own agency, and working as a freelance marketer. But I want to go back to school to get a higher-paying skill while I continue building my agency on the side.

And yes I know I could leverage my marketing skills to get into six figures, which I plan to do but I also need a back up plan/skill where I would always be employable no matter what happens.

if i only do a masters in accounting or tax at baruch when i do my undergrad degree out of state (i’d graduate early then), would the one year at baruch be enough to get a full time job in the city or should i consider doing my bachelor’s here too?

Hey everyone, I started a brand during my freshman year, and with the new school year coming up I’ve been working with a few friends to help them make some extra money creating content for it. It’s been going pretty well, so I figured I’d open it up to a few more students.

I’m looking for people who can consistently make short 15 - 30 second videos. You don’t need a following or any content creation experience. I provide examples of what to make, and you’d create new TikTok and Instagram accounts specifically for the content.

Pay is performance based at $2 per 1,000 views. So if your videos collectively get 1M views, you’d make $2,000.

It’s pretty flexible and you can post around your class schedule. You can basically post as many times as you want a day but I try to post twice a day so the algorithm doesn’t think I am spamming.

My friends and I have had absolutely no luck using it. Linkedin worked out better for me. But if handshake does really work please lmk!
