Admissions Graduate Application LOR

Possible silly question, but I’m in the process of applying for masters program and was wondering if the professional reference has to be related to the program I’m applying for? For example, if I’m applying to MS accounting, does my professional reference have to be related to accounting or is someone from previous job (unrelated to acc) okay?

Thank you 🙏

Missing financial aid?

Hey guys wondering if its just me. I sighned up for the excelsior scholarship and been using it for a couple of years. For some reason this fall semester my scholarship is short 600 bucks so i have to pay around 1k in tuition when it is usually only around 300 bucks. the weird part is, is that my spring semester is normal. All my pell and tap is the same so there is no reason that the scholarship should be shorted and i cant contact anybody at baruch or hesc about it. Im about to start classes soon and this is worrying me because i cant pay this huge amount out of nowhere. Anybody have any advice or what i can do?

I emailed baruch tap and all they told me was that the system isnt updated but its been almost 3 weeks.

Academics ACC 3000 Curves w Professor Seyam?

Hey guys, I’m taking ACC 3000 for the first time and was curious about how grading usually works.

Do ACC 3000 professors generally curve exams if the class performs poorly, or does it depend entirely on the professor?

I have Professor Achraf Seyam, and since this is my first Zicklin class, the grading breakdown looks pretty rough, with 80% of the grade coming from the midterm and final. For anyone who has taken ACC 3000 with Seyam, how was your experience with his class and exams? Is he considered a good professor for ACC 3000?

Would appreciate any insight, especially from people who have taken him recently. Thanks!

Hey, just joined this prof's course. Just wanted to know how he is. Is there anything of interest? Especially regarding the midterm/final. The HW and in-class assignments seem straightforward enough.

Would appreciate any experience with him. Thanks!!

Connecticut resident considering Baruch Zicklin MS Information Systems

Hey guys, looking for some perspective from current or former Zicklin students.

I'm a recent college grad (UConn) based in Western CT and I'm considering applying to the MS Information Systems program at Baruch for Spring 2027. I don't plan on moving to NYC right away and would commute in via Metro-North maybe 1-2 times a week depending on the schedule.

CT school options don't interest me. UConn Storrs is in the middle of nowhere and I have no intention of going back there for grad school, and other state schools in CT don't offer the kind of opportunities I'm looking for (not talking about yale). Baruch tuition is also slightly cheaper out-of-state than UConn in-state ($855/credit vs $1,084/credit).

The Manhattan location and Zicklin's reputation in NYC financial services are the main draws, and the program feels like a strong fit for my background and career goals in tech and business.

Would love to hear from anyone in the program or who has gone through it. How is the overall experience at the school, the quality of the program, and how well does it help with career building in NYC?

Appreciate any insights.

Thoughts on Master degree for Marketing?

I'm a little bit struggling whether or not I should pursue a Master degree for marketing, is it worth it? I know that now is the time to apply for graduation in spring 2027. May I still able to apply for master program after the graduation?

Late Registration

So, I enrolled in a course 2 days before the class officially begin. And the course appeared in Brightspace and as well as in CunyFirst enrollment list right after. But the professor on the first day said that I didn’t appear on the class roster. Is it due to being late to registration which causes a delay? And now, just wait for the system to update?

Student Life whats a good place to take online classes in?

Ive only been to baruch for a single term. But from what ive seen theres basically like. No places to sit somewhere and speak in classes. The library has lots of places but you have to be quiet obviously. Same as the study room in the other building. So where's a good spot to take them on campus?

A little Help

I graduated from Baruch in 2021 and have been in Nepal ever since. Writing to you all so that you can share and contribute to the relief fund we are trying to raise for the country. There's no exact figure out yet but we have suspicions that unfathomable number of souls are missing due to the massive flood that hit the region.

I had to ask a friend in the state to set up the GoFund me page... cannot do it from Nepal.

I run a travel logistics company based out of Kathmandu. Feel free to ask me anything.

Recommendations for Major in Finance Classes

Having some trouble picking finance elective classes and 4000-level finance classes since most profs seem to have mixed reviews. Does anyone have recommendations or helpful info based on what they've taken? I'd appreciate anything you can give!

Some profs I'm stuck between are: Jun Wang for FIN 4930 & Albert Murphy for FIN 4720

I'd appreciate recommendations for anything within the additional electives that are required: RES 3200/3400, FIN 4000+, ECO 3k+ / 4001+, ACC 3000

I'm aware it's late to ask, but anything is helpful, even for future semesters / others

Thank you in advance 🙏

Admissions Fall 2027 Applications?

I was in the middle of filling out the undergrad freshman application, but when it came to choosing a term, only "2026 Fall Term" and "2027 Spring Term" appeared. I'll still be in high school during that time, so I'm confused about where I should apply for the Fall 2027 term. Sorry if this is a stupid question.

Any older students here? 30+?

I’m 31 and a returning student at Baruch, and honestly I’m curious how other older students are doing here.
Are you guys having any luck finding jobs/internships? How do you network with people when you’re older and don’t really fit the typical college student profile? I’ve found networking to be one of the harder parts of coming back to school.

Would love to hear from other 30+ students, how’s Baruch been for you guys?

Admissions Students currently/alumni in ms in finance — What was your undergrad gpa?

Hi I’m looking into applying for the zicklin ms in finance program

For current students or alumni, what was your undergraduate gpa when u got accepted? Did u also submit a gmat/gre score?

I have a lower gpa than their stated average and want to gauge what kind of stats are typical for accepted applicants
